Anna's Training Log Part 2 (Part 1)

haha, not in my case (covid gym shit). I’m finding that I’m feeling just as hesitant to take a set of 3 pistols at 45 as I was two weeks ago taking a set of 3 pistol squats+6 jump squats
With that said, My form has gotten significantly better

Week 2: day2

Sprints: 4x30m, 1x20m
Pistols: 4x3/side-45lbs
1-arm push-ups: 3x6/side, 1x5/side(4on left)
Nordic curl attempts: 1x5, 1x1- cramp

  • slept weird last night so everything was tight and somewhat sore, rests WAY took long, pistols easier than expected and VERY happy with 1arm push-up progress, no improvement on nordic curls

I’m experiencing exactly this too, as I spent a solid year or so training in giant set format, but have moved away from that for a period. You’ll just adapt to whatever you wind up doing, and pretty quickly.

How long is that exactly? Been on the giant sets 4 weeks now they still suck! (In the best kind of way!)

Did you time your rest this workout? What is considered way too long? Could you have potentially hit 4 x 6 1-arm pushups if you rested longer?

Not sure what to suggest for the hamstring cramping, I’ve never had that. Maybe thoughtfully flexing your glutes will help. Or it could be a nutrition issue (lacking electrolytes).

No, couldn’t be bothered to  but in the ballpark of 3-4min based on the time

Probably not, my shoulders were very pissed (weird sleep position last night)

Yeah, I wasn’t really mentally into it so chances are, I wasn’t focused on keeping things as tight as they needed to be

Haha they never stop sucking, but they get easier to deal with.

Anna, why all the 1 armed pushups? I could be hugely wrong (I know what you are thinking, and yes, it is very unlikely), but that sounds more like an ego move. Feel free to correct me. What I am really asking, though, is why not just regular pushups?

@Pinkylifting recommended them as a “heavy” upper body move. I’ve tried weighted pushups, but turns out, kettelbells aren’t really good for that and we don’t have any heavy books in the house

How many unweighted pushups can you do? Must be a lot if you can do one-armed?

my best ever was 77, but that was a a couple of years ago for a PE fitness test
I reckon I could probably do 40-50 good form ones when fresh

Show off!

Nah kidding aside, that’s really impressive!

It really helps if you’re a 94lb midget

That makes a certain amount of sense, but I would bet my pancreas that you would be better off ALSO doing regular pushups, or doing them instead of. No way those relatively few number of one armed are a good replacement for regular pushups.

I doubt it too tbh. I might actually start throwing in a few extra sets of regular pushups or pushup variations.

It is the kind of thing, in my opinion, you do ON TOP OF the basic movement. Not instead of.

I would say the exact same thing about pistols.

That would be the case if I could go to the gym.

I think you’re misunderstanding what @Cyrrex means by basic movements.

Yep. Pistols might be fine (until your knee explodes…), but they are also an ego move. Do them AFTER, not INSTEAD.

I think this is probably what you meant, no?
