As I mentioned in @Voxel log, discipline is doing what’s necessary and therefore only works if you have a good handle on what’s necessary.
unpopular opinion:
Evil is “genius” applied in the wrong direction, usually as a result of putting insane ideologies over reality
The actions are indefensibe, but the underlying principles might work when applied in the right direction.
I’d never made that connection before.
And sometimes the underlying principles or words used are honestly quite shitty if one analyses and extrapolates more from them.
Who said what and how does it benefit them if people swallow this as a truth. Historically, what has been said about labour, and the virtues of hard work and discipline when voiced by a nation it sometimes serves the upper echelons of that nation far more than the individuals that are expected to apply it.
After all, if your population is too tired at the end of their work day to engage politically trying to fight for their rights its easier to remain in power and further the inequality that allows for that to continue.
It was a popular Nazi “quote”, but the idea itself was a staple in the German military long before that (insert degrading explictive of choice) Austrian took it and ran with it
I’m aware of some of the background, mostly from Auschwitz “fame”, unfortunately. I always found it an odd statement given its placement there.
I’d never made the connection to “Discipline equals freedom” though.
This probably makes me a horrid person, but I’ve never understood or believed in avoiding something (whether it be a product or idea) just because something behind it (the company, leader etc) did something/believe in something morally reprehensible. As long as I know I’m not engaging in such actions and thoughts, why should the moral failure of others prevent me from improving/enjoying my life
Medical advances are medical advances whether or not the trials were conducted ethically
Using hard work and discipline to move ahead is what will make me succeed, whether or not government used slogans to oppress the masses (which I don’t deny)
That’s not what I’m saying though. In this instance I’m questioning whether or not the words in question when applied really improves life at all and believe them to be ultimately in service of those that uttered them moreso than those that adhere to them.
Shit you edited. I’ll elaborate later.
This is a good thing. You need to be a little softer to be able to make real progress. In a super lean and undernourished state your body is simply not in a position to make gains of any sort. Your level of fat is still very low, if you build a little muscle you will look muscular without additional fat loss.
Btw, apparently gyms opened in the UK, have you gone back?
They open on Saturday, I’ll be there first thing in the morning!
Also, if you haven’t already, i think you’d really benefit from reading Mike Israetel’s work on volume.
Whenever I see his posts on MEV, MAV and MRV (minimum effective volume, maximal adaptive volume and maximum recoverable volume) and the relative gains you should expect to reap at each level, It makes me think of you. In short though, working at your MRV will net you just as little results as working at your MEV, except you feel a lot worse.
This one in particular brought you straight to mind.

Israetel is about as bright as they come… unfortunately, I have yet to figure these amounts out for myself
Watching your log, it looks like you exist exclusively at, or at least just shy of the MRV. A lot of work, a lot of fatigue, less gains than your effort deserves. Luckily the simple solution is to add rest.
And food.
Bit of an either or really. Adding rest reduces work reduces caloric expenditure and recovery requirement and could mean current caloric intake would be sufficient.
Different tools for the same job.
That’s the thing. I really love eating, and having to reduce calories would give me a lot less wiggle room. I’ve probably somehow already reduced my activity somewhat because I’ve randomly started gaining (?) at 2k as of last week after a month of maintaining at the same intake (accounting for my weekly grill night splurges). I’ve also been basically eating the same things
Funny thing too, a kilo came on literally overnight and hasn’t gone away for over a week now
I never said reduce the calories.
Literally no-one is suggesting this.
Or what he said
