That’s a bit the southern Europe stereotype, but there’s a reason for it I guess. Dunno about France, but it can be like that in Spain and Portugal too, especially in the smaller towns.
Ah, the bullpup. What a design evolution. I assume you are referring to the TAR-21?
Just really laid back, nonchalant, sleep on duty… Pretty appealing actually !
The ergonomics on the Tavor suck, it’s like shouldering a piece of 2×6 lumber.
Collecting was for fun, no ulterior motive. I also have an extensive collection of archery bows, and medieval arms and armour. Been interested in that stuff since a kid.Offending parts were from different guns, rather than an attempt to assemble one gun. No ammo.Primary interest rifles of WW1 & 2.
If I wanted an unregistered gun I’m sure it would have been an easier route just to find someone who would sell me one. Career criminals never seem to have trouble getting them. I don’t move in those kind of circles though.
Criminal record was both for gun parts and steroids. Whilst I don’t agree with the specific laws, because they are irrational, and illogical, I felt I was treated very fairly by the police and the courts/legal process. They realised that I wasn’t up to something dangerous, and even told me so.
They said the legislation wasn’t to deal with people like me, but career criminals, organised crime, terrorism etc. But the law is the law, and they needed to set an example to the community about the seriousness of firearms related offences. No Fines(apart from court costs which added up to about $1000). 18 month good behavior bond, and a ban from applying for a license for 10 years(only 5 years in QLD).
Well the warrant was to check that I wasn’t manufacturing firearms, or have actual firearms, ammo etc. I guess they had to make sure. Yes it would have cost a lot of taxpayers $.
They always seem to mention toys are excluded, but at least in NSW this seems to be largely disregarded. Any gun like object made from any material seems to be a big no no. Gel blasters beyond a cursory scan, look like plastic toys. Some of the old die cast cowboy cap guns I had as a kid looked much more realistic. Back in the day no one gave a shit if you had one because they knew it was just a toy.
Qld has a better stance, you can own most stuff as long as its non functional without a license. They only enforce laws if you are using them improperly, without a reasonable excuse. eg are trying to commit an armed robbery, or intimidate someone.
Paintballing, I don’t see why they need to be licensed, just don’t shoot anyone with one that hasn’t agreed to play a game with you.
Regards to the nanny state issues of supplements etc, they are batshit crazy. The laws are made by ill informed people. Usually no basis in fact. They treat grown adults like retarded children.
There was another young man(adult though) who OD’d and died on concentrated caffeine, when he got the dosage wrong. Personal responsibility.
They’ve banned concentrated caffiene in response to this… as if it made a difference, you can get this shit on eBay.
Tbh though I’m not sure about the potency of concentrated, powdered caffiene. If one was to behave like a moron and take it by the teaspoon, this should theoretically be sufficient to induce arrhythmia, fever, vomiting, gastric irritation and in rare cases cardiac arrest
Sure, it’s an individualistic responsibility; but it’s quite lethal/easy to proportionately overdose on. “Eyeballing” powdered caffiene would be a terrible idea, you can’t take it in the same fashion you could take creatine.
“Societal infantilism”
Australia’s motto since… as long as I’ve been fucking born
You should see the circle jerking that occurs regarding attitudes harboured towards politicians/parliament. I’m in a few Facebook groups; I mentioned the helmet laws and got the response “WhY wOuLd YoU wAnT ThESe ScrApPeD… It’S fOr PuBliC sAfeTy”… great, so we can be practically the only country in the world to make not wearing a helmet illigal, we can also be what I would assume to be the only country to ban soccer balls and kites on beaches (NSW)… this isn’t all about public safety, it becomes rules for the sake of fucking rules ![]()
If you want to be an edgy potato and cycle around without a helmet… why not. The burden on the public healthcare system associated with skateboard/biking and motorcycle accidents pales in compatriots the impact associated with eating badly, smoking and drinking.
Good god… the road laws here too… proposing we make the speed limits in residential neighbourhoods 30km/hr even though we already have one of the lowest road death tolls out of all developed countries. I can fucking hit speeds of above 30km/hr on my BIKE
Necessitating one be 21-22 before you can get your “full license”, are you kidding me?
Granted I’m glad I don’t live in some ultra authoritarian shithole, at least I have the ability to complain about the stringent, illogical rules/regulations present in Aus without getting thrown in prison.
Russian National Guard (Rosgvardiya) which despite it’s name aren’t comparable to the US National Guard but are the spiritual successors of NKVD.
What? ![]()
Can you describe it once you’ve watched it(of course without giving any sensitive information away)? I have much trust in your ability to look at footage objectively.
I believe it! It just looks beautiful. I have yet to set my hands on one and can only be jealous of your testing.
Some people think that bullpup designs look ugly from an aesthetic standpoint, but I really dig the X95
Ok I guess I didn’t miss that many lol. Thanks.
But yeah I’d think the Rosgvardiya is kind of like the Portuguese Republican National Guard, who also bare no resemblance to the US one.
WTF is that? A bullpup FAL? Fucken ugly alright.
Yes, the Portuguese Guardsmen are military personnel, and they’re responsible for traffic control on highways among other things - a conversation starter if you’re stopped by GNR in Portugal for speeding and unsuccessfully try to talk your way out of a ticket…or so I’ve been told.
Cool. What’s the book that mentions this? Selous Scouts were pretty badass.
This is from “Firearms: Developed and Manufactured in Southern Africa 1949-2000” which includes SA and Rhodesia. The Rhodesian Bush War is a very interesting conflict to study (and no I’m not a white supremacist/neo-Nazi/baby killer).
Thanks man. I read a lot of firearms history books, never heard of this one before, looks interesting. Currently unavailable on Amazon, yet only published 3 years ago.
It was a labour of love of an enthusiast society in SA, so it’s not that widely available. I got it shortly after it first came out and it cost a fortune to ship to Australia from SA. Ian reviews it here:
I don’t know if I’d recommend it if you enjoy detail and a lot of dense info. It has a lot of good photos and development history of the more popular guns (e.g. SA FAL variants), but not that much info on the lesser known ones.
On a related note, there’s a truly exceptional monograph on Russian ammo development, but unfortunately only in Russian at the moment (http://patronschik.ru/all_books/). I don’t know if it’ll ever be translated, but maybe it’s possible to translate the ebook with some app. Now this thing is truly dense. I’m talking 250+ pages just on the 5.45, with every kind of measurement imaginable. The author worked at TsNIITochMash his whole life and it took him 17 years to write this, and it’s been reviewed by Maxim Popenker, Pyotr Serdyukov (creator of the VSS Vintorez/AS Val) and Vladimir Simonov (creator of the APS underwater rifle). It’s the kind of painstaking work that could never be replicated again.
