Calling out some people who happen to be black. Also, it’s not white people saying we should go back to our African roots.
It’s lies. Or do you think black africans live in huts and worship spiders?
You’re delusional if you think 4th and 5th graders aren’t already being exposed to those topics. But, hey, I guess it’s best they learn about them from their peers, older siblings, media, etc. rather than parents and trained educators, right?
Obviously we disagree on some things which is fine. Just accept that your opinions are your opinions and not facts.
Except, that’s not what you said. In case you forgot.
Ignorant folks come in all colors.
I think it would do you some good to get outside your comfort zone and talk to people from different backgrounds than your own.
The stunning answer actually seems to be that BLM is a white supremacist movement. While that sounds crazy it really isn’t. They are to the point of claiming blacks cannot compete, even in a fair marketplace (look at the pamphlet the Smithsonian black history museum put out on whiteness). Literally they claim hard work, delayed gratification and the nuclear family are things blacks aren’t inherently capable of. Therefore, because blacks are too lazy and dumb, the marketplace must be tilted to allow them equal access to goods. This is why BLM is a Marxist movement. You have to rig the market, and destroy the white nuclear family (rig the social structure) to even out the results. It’s like if you took a KKK movement, kept the inherent belief that whites are better at everything, then added the goal of leveling outcomes between the races.
It’s like a cultural revolution for black Americans, not only normalizing carelessness, worthlessness, criminality, and single motherhood but making them the foundation of their culture. Anyone who thinks this is good is either out of their mind or looking to personally profit in some way.
Part of the problem is that America let things get to the point where a large proportion of black people see Marxism as a better alternative than the current system. Just look at how it started, bringing millions of Africans as slaves, eventually giving them freedom but continuing to mistreat them (the Jim Crow days), it was a recipe for disaster from the beginning. There isn’t an easy solution to the current situation, once these sorts of ideas have spread and been accepted it will be very difficult to change their minds. Especially since things like logic and critical thinking are now frowned upon. How can this really be fixed?
I didn’t say it wasn’t happening, I said it was inappropriate and that it robs children of their innocence.
I’ve already raised my daughter, quite successfully, but too many parents are facing these threats right now.
You think this is a good idea?
I have no idea. The truth is that the worse racism is affecting a group, the more they need to cling to hard work and intact families. It’s not just giving up the dumb ideas they are pushing, the culture needs to proactively flip 180 degrees to affect better outcomes.
The problem is these dumb ideas are going to prevent any positive changes from happening, the are pre-empting any change for the better.
One of the huge problems with our educational system is that people think that not being taught in school means banning it from being taught to kids. Families raise children, school is a supplement. If someone thinks something should be taught, no one is stopping you from getting your child to study it.
It’s worth mentioning that two of the founders of BLM are married to some sort of drag queens/transsexuals.
Do I personally think “Drag Queen Story Hour” is a good idea? Not really. But, I do think you can have an age-appropriate conversation with kids about gender identity, sexuality, etc. There’s some middle ground between not addressing these issues at all and presenting kids with the extreme examples I find on the internet.
Those aren’t extreme examples from the internet, that’s what is going on in the local library in a lot of places.
Fair enough. I’ll restate my point. There’s some middle ground between not addressing these issues at all and Drag Queens in the classroom.
I think the idea of having only drag queens read stories is a bit silly, but if it is open story hour and a drag queen wants to read I don’t have an issue with it. I don’t have any interest in being a drag queen, but at the same time I don’t see anything wrong with it. I don’t think it is hurting anyone.
I think banning drag queens would be a mistake. I guess my position is we should not promote or ban things like this. I would say having a “Drag Queen Story Hour” is promoting it, so I am not for that. Like I said, if a drag queen wants to read to kids, why not. If the parents don’t like it, don’t have them attend.
I think that’s a perfectly reasonable response. There wasn’t much context in @studhammer’s post, so I assumed this was supposed to be a classroom activity.
If it’s not announced how would the parents know to avoid the story time? I can’t think of a better way to ruin the library’s reputation than springing Drag Queens on an unexpecting parents AND kids
Are you okay with a priest/minister reading Bible stories at the library?
This was a library event, not a school event. I am guessing in most cases the parents bring their kids to the library.
Yep, as long as the Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Atheists, etc are allowed the same.
I don’t have an issue with the Bible being taught at public school as long as equal time is given to other religions and non-religion.
If you aren’t fighting the cultural war somebody else will.
