He ended the GWOT also. Actually, I have no objection to that. It was fought by conservatives and ended up keeping SWPLs in NYC and DC safe from terror. Incorrect - the recipients of the federal funds could have received the money if only they had taken abortion off the menu of options they provided. Nothing prohibited them from doing their job - they could still counsel, provide medical services, etc. Yet, so important that abortion stayed on as an option, they forfeited tons of free money.

Even if the funding for abortions came from completely separate sources, and even if the recipient did not provide abortions but merely abortion counseling or referral. It was a gag rule, nothing more. It was idiotic when Reagan signed it, and it was even more so when Bush revived it. Clinton killed it, and now so has Obama. Abortion does not JUST happen in rich countries. Regardless of abortion, family services should be provided when possible. “Family planning” occurs if the baby was planned or not.
