Try to explain in short order:
- People want to avoid the tax stamp so they develop the “ar pistol”
- AR’s need a buffer tube. Rather than a big dildo in your face, SIG brace is born. Wraps around your forearm, not that you need it for recoil control, it’s fucking 556 lol.
- Brace is, without a doubt, materially similar to a buttstock.
- First run through, ATF says, that’s cool
- ATF changes their tune and says if you shoulder the brace, it is a Short Barreled Rifle, not a pistol. Therefore without a stamp, you’re now a felon if you shoulder it.
- People flip the fuck out and write a bunch of letters
- ATF says, fine, if there are that many pistols out there, this ammo is losing it’s exemption because it can be, and is obviously commonly fired from a pistol.
The ammo in question has been banned for awhile, but had an exemption. It’s losing it, because everyone flipped out that the ATF changed their opinion that what is a SBR workaround, is in fact a work around. It’s all politics.
I doubt Obama understands any of the above, except the last line.

They are really the same shit, and yes. All mine are chambered in 556 and I have quite a bit of ammo.

Hmm, I thought only military rifles are chambered in .556 and could use .556 or .223 rounds where as civilian rifles are chambered in .223 and the two rounds aren’t interchangeable.

Depends on who you talk to. My understanding is 556 is higher pressure. The cartridge is the same in everything except power load. So, therefore you can use both in a 556 (or wylde) chamber, but only 223 in a 223 chamber.
But in real life I know most people that will shoot both out of a 223 chamber bolt gun, and quite a few that will shoot both out of an auto loader chambered in 223. I havent’ seen too many “hey this 556 blew up my 223 AR posts.”
Mine are all chambered in 556 so I don’t give a fuck.
I do run a lot of shitty Tula 223 out of my MINI though, because the thing throws brass into another zipcode so it’s hard to find. Plus it’s a ruger, so it should be tough enough to not be too hammered by it.
