Well, there is a third possibility :
in some cases, they try particularly hard to NOT succeed.
Time and time again, i’ve seen
-white girls and boys who make their best efforts to look and sound more ghetto than they really are. Because it’s cool, you know.
-Recently arrived students from East asian origin who become fluent in french in less than six months and are the bests of their class at the end of the year.
