?Oh, but you can?t offend them, can?t make them feel uncomfortable, not even a smidgen. Well, if I were in charge, they would know that waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists.?

Why is she still in the limelight?

I guess we shouldn’t say ‘baptism of fire’ either. That would be comparing baptism to war. Seems a bit over the top to me.

Dude is a complete fucking idiot. That said, so much for free speech.

I missed the part where his Constitutional right to free speech was infringed on by the government.

I didn’t say anything about the government.

Like I said in two other threads, I’d rather see consumers, players, and sponsors discipline via $'s. Not the/an organization.

I stole this, but it explains free speech pretty well:

Nobody calling themselves a Christian, supposedly speaking for Christians, should associate the imagery of baptismal water, with the torture of water-boarding. Full stop. End of story. Despicable. Besides that, the whipping-up of crowds into a frenzy, over a form of torture…“Vote for me (or someone I’ll stump for), and we’ll get our sacred baptismal water torture. I’m more torturous than my opponents!”

Again, it was just an expression. And if a crowd can be whipped into a frenzy by something like that then that says more about the crowd than it does about the speaker.

To raise money. For herself.

Mark Levin on Sarah Palin:

Mark Levin went after NRO writer Patrick Brennan for taking cheap shots at Sarah Palin over her NRA speech this weekend.

“Here’s what you don’t understand pal,” Levin said to Brennan, who referred to Palin as “no longer a serious political contender.”

“She’s the most sought after endorsement around, period, in Republican circles…and she’s fighting like hell to save the country.”

Levin went on, “you may not agree with her - you may not agree with how she speaks or what she says but SCREW YOU! You do nothing.”

Levin then slammed Brennan by saying “you sit there on your ass and you type away at your keyboard and then you go to your little social circles and you’re proud of yourself, probably sending the link all over the place. Who have you helped? Who have you supported? What have you done?”

Next Levin took aim at Rod Dreher at The American Conservative, calling him a “nasty creep” for basically writing that Palin’s ‘baptism’ remark was blasphemy and suggesting she was comparing torture to a “holy sacrament of the Christian faith.”

“Everybody knows what she meant,” Levin said, “everybody knows it was a laugh line.” Levin continues, “But Sarah Palin is easy pickins so they pile on. Tough guy, huh?”

Levin points out that Sarah Palin is out there “breaking her neck trying to get conservatives elected and trying to keep the base strong” and she’s dismissed by people on “our side.”

"This is how “our side” treats “our side,” Levin adds. “You’ll never see the left or Democrats do that to a woman on their side ever!”

Ya, I agree with that. I still think it’s a slippery slope.

I can see this point of view, but from the headache perspective it really isn’t worth it for the NBA. If you have players who don’t want to play because of Sterling, sponsors that don’t want to sponsor his team, and fans who don’t come the entire NBA loses out.

Getting rid of the person who is responsible for the players not wanting to play for him, sponsors dropping out, fans not going, etc. is much easier and makes much more sense from the NBA’s perspective.

Kareem Abdul Jabbar had the best write up about this issue I have heard, Sterling was a known racist for years, this whole fake shock is pure media circle jerkism.

Sure it is, absolutely.

The easiest solution isn’t always the best solution though. Especially long term.

I like this part:

“Shouldn’t we be equally angered by the fact that his private, intimate conversation was taped and then leaked to the media? Didn’t we just call to task the NSA for intruding into American citizen’s privacy in such an un-American way? Although the impact is similar to Mitt Romney’s comments that were secretly taped, the difference is that Romney was giving a public speech. The making and release of this tape is so sleazy that just listening to it makes me feel like an accomplice to the crime. We didn’t steal the cake but we’re all gorging ourselves on it.”

This issue is the only thing going on here, other than the Toyota HQ leaving for TX.

More than just the racism, is that the NAACP had no problem taking money from Sterling despite his blatant racism.

The head of the LA Chapter of the NAACP resigned yesterday due to massive criticism of trying to bribe away the racism.

Dude, back off bro, I have like a frat meeting in like, a half hour.
