I’m with JK, I don’t think we can maintain lots of volume on this diet at least not while in cal deficit. I wouldn’t mind trying again if I were trying to bulk while on this diet. When I first started I was doing CT’s Superhero Complex and it was fine for a while but I burned out pretty quickly and my joints were killing me, they’re still recovering to a point. I’m back on 5/3/1 myself and it’s going well and will probably just stick to it for a long time. You really get sufficient volume with 5/3/1’s assistance work, 5 sets of 8-10 reps isn’t exactly easy.
The weekend carb super-load was a good experiement. As of today I’ve burnt the 9lbs I put on over the weekend and am actually down one pound, tomorrow I hope to be down 2 more but I think my sodium intake might be high today because of where we’re doing lunch today at work. Within my carbs, just high-sodium.

@ MAF, why do you think the metabolic is for the every day guy & the AD isn’t? I read on Dipasquales site that it’s just a more detailed version. W/AD out of print, this is the only version out there.

I’m not MAF but I’ll give it a go.
AD came out in the mid 90’s and was pointed towards the bodybuilder.
Then the Metabolic Diet came out in the early 2000s for the general population would would be scared of the AD book cover ;). It has a good deal more scientific information in it as well. However, still vanilla.
Anabolic Solution for BB and PLs came out in the early 2000s as well. It was a more refined version of AD pointed directly at BB or PL respectively.

Question: I was thinking of adding 2 - 3 tbsps of Psyllium husk to each of my shakes throughout the day, is this to much? . . I started doing this on Wednesday and wow it cleans you out and I don’t seem to bloat so much eating all these cals a day . . just looking for some feedback . . thanks guys. . and since whey is a fast protein will husk also slow down its absorption or is this a stupid question as its not a suger . . sorry I’m forgetting my fibre lesson from way back this morning as my tea has not kicked in. . .and depending on how everyone answers this question . . is there any advantage to taking casein protein at night or just my usual protein with husk?
As for the volume issue YES I might second that, that when cutting it might be hard to have enough energy but I just upped my good fats and for me I was fine.
As for never rinsing pasta it was something I learned while cooking at this Italian place I worked at and I guess it just stuck lol
As for the 7 pounds from last week looks like I’ll be probably keeping 1 pound from it so all is good and for whatever reason my BF dropped a bit so even better.

they told you to rinse pasta at an italian place? blasphemy. they sir, are not real italians
any way i dont think 2-3 tbsp of psyllium would be too much as long as its carb/sugar free

lol . . lol . . Well you go tell the Olive Garden lolololol . . we would cook it then drop it in an ice bath then warm it back up after . .
Just edited the above post . . any further feedback on the casein issue?
Thanks again bud . . . as I was thinking of ordering some casein but wanted feedback before I did . . also found a unsweetened iso-protein that is a pretty good price(will mix it with low carb.sugar yogurt for tast). . . so I’m going to get that and up my protein a bit with the husk during the day then casein at night and of course EV-Olympics on the weekend lol.
I just have to say I love this thread for many reason but if nothing else for the great feedback . . I was having a discussion with a buddy 2 weeks ago and we couldn’t come to an overall answer so I posted a thread in the “T” section and a Pinner attacked me for such a stupid question and I was only asking for an opinion. don’t get me wrong I have nothing wrong with pinners!!! But gezzz relax bud lol but on this thread all are friendly and funny at times so all is good.

As far as effectiveness goes follow AD or AS. IMO

Thanks for the reply. & while I understand what you’re saying, w/no way of purchasing the book, what is one to do. Do you guys really think the Metabolic version is that far off from the AD version?
I will check out the interwebz for the updated version.
Guys I’m coming off of a cut and I am manatining weight. I’m still currently somewhat pudgey, not too bad though. I am going to stick to the diet and I was wondering how much weight should I attempt to gain every week or two weeks. I would assume around 1lb per week or every two weeks.
Yet another question . . OK before I make my next protein purchase . . what is the latest feels/research on what is better a straight ISO protein OR a protein complex of concentrate, Isolate and hydrolyzed? . . and what do you think would work best for the AD . . feedback?
I usually stick to the isolates BTW . . figured I would add that so I didn’t sound like a total dolt . . but I was just thinking outside of the box and was wondering if there were any advantages on the AD for a complex like the above or is it better just to spend the extra money for the ISO?
When losing weight on the anabolic diet, how should you go about weighing yourself each week to track weight loss? I am thinking every Friday, because you’ll probably have a little bit of a weight gain come Monday from the carb up.

My carb-up days are Sat/Sun and my weigh-out day is typically Sat before I eat.

I was thinking about this today.
I weigh myself on the way out the door at the gym every workout, and was thinking I should write each days weight down and compare week to week from each day. I’d likely use fridays weight (the day before my carb up) as a set weight to track progress, though.
Print, if you’re worried about getting too FEW calories in… get an orange flavored powerade zero, and put vanilla protein, some light (in flavor) olive oil, and some heavy whipping cream and shake it up. Tastes like a creamsickle.
Also, diet A&W diet root beer with heavy cream in it tastes like the leftovers of a root beer float after you’ve eaten the ice cream. Es dericious.
Basically, heavy cream. Use it often. Put it in your eggs, shakes.
I’ve also been just eating some coconut oil with a spoon with meals recently to add more calories.
finally started to use a calorie counter to figure out where i’m at and unfortunately most days i’m an under-eater.
@ ~170lbs most days I can see myself getting in 2500-3000 cals so its time to up my olive oil intake to ~5 tbsp and I’ve finally picked up some muscle milk. 2 scoops with have 15 g of carbs and 30 g protein and loading it up with some whipping cream really keeps the fat up there and its delicious.
Also, when breaking down the diet is it based off the number of grams you eat or a percentage of your daily caloric intake …
Ex// today i had 250G of fat and 200 G protein and 30 G Carbs then its about 52% fat 40% protein 6% carbs
OR
Ex// 2200cals fat 800 cals protein 121 cals protein = 70%fat 25%protein 6%carbs
Any help would be awesome
Whats with heavy cream in my eggs? How do you do it rrjc?

Stop bein’ so skinny, would’ja?[/quote]
Thank you brother. Definitely would kick cals up & it’s alot easier for me w/liquid than whole foods. Both of those drinks sound damn good. Any idea how many cals you’re getting out of those?
So last Saturday before Quad and I did our massive carb-up I weighed 213 as my starting weight. I went on to gain 9lbs over the weekend and started Mondy at 222. Today I weighed in at 211! w00t!

i (personally) would go with what ever is cheaper… hydrolyzed is always good but when its mixed with concentrate and isolate it wont have the big jump in amino acid levels like it would by itself.
i think some hydrolyzed casein, like MAG-10 or peptopro, would be ideal but a bit pricey

lol yes it was a massive carb-up if I don’t say so myself there buddy . . now I’m a bit behind this weekend as its been a crazy day and was away from my home buffet but home now . . super shake down and supper is on the way . . roasted potatoes covered in EVOO and I think corn oil all sorts of herbs then a chicken farm on top . . and some ice cream puffs for later.
Much like yourself I was up 7 pounds on Monday but lost it all by this morning so I’m back down to 161.2 but I look fuller and leaner than I did last week so “eh” all is good and so I begin yet another weekend of EV-Olympics. . .

Thanks for your opinion and if I get some free time this weekend I’ll go on-line and place my order (:
