We’ve so many sports stars here in the states it’s hard for us to understand the national pride for someone like Pacquiao in his home country. They were trying to get him to run for President or at least back a canidate in the philippines. To his credit he told them “I’m just a boxer.” During the fights we get blow by blow updates from the in-laws via e-mail and text messages.
All your numbers are going up skid. Hitting the 300s on your bench will be a great accomplishment.

Trying to catch up to you big dogs…
The cool thing about Manny that someone told me is that he gives a MAJOR portion of his winnings to Pilipino charities back home. To the extent that people in his entourage are telling him he’s giving too much away and leaving none for himself.
I was watching the fight with a friend who’d been stationed there during his Spec. Forces tour of duty. At the conclusion of the fight he said that the total population of the Philippines were likely spilling into the streets in celebration. Hard for an American to believe, but I trust his opinion on this.
My squat is really beginning to piss me off. At this stage of the game I should be able to pop a 400 single whenever I want, but I’m not even close. I thought that sumo-deads would help - and they have, but not as much as I thought they would. I think I’m working them too light.
Sumo DL 365 8x3 (+20 lbs from last time - weight PR +10)
Leg Press
500x20
Hanging pikes - feet over head
2x8
Weighted Crunches (forgot my ab wheel)
100 2x10
350 was no harder than 340 and all were easier than the 335 I did 12 days or so ago. I was a leetle concerned about my back going into the gym, but it was rock solid the whole way. Lower back is really pumped.
Don’t worry about it, I am sure you’ll smoke them next time around!
I have always said I am not one to compete but who knows what will happen after I meet my goals. It may be the motivation that is guaranteed to keep me lifting

Thanks for the encouragement, DoubleF.
Competition in this realm is so-called. You’re only ever competing against yourself, really. The platform just brings out the best effort - to my mind anyway.
I like to show off, too, if I’m to be really honest about it.
Hips are getting tight and I’m having trouble getting down into the bottom of the squat, though the tightness accelerates me out of the hole nicely. I’m having a little trouble getting to the bottom with the lighter weights in the warmup sets.
I’ve been doing a lot of side hip work lately too, basically consisting of sideways BW lunges. It’s contributed to my stability at the bottom.

Kinda draggy today, but I hit my rep target for the press I wanted 3x5 and then whatever it took to get to 25 total. Feeling presses in the upper back, strangely enough.
Back is still tired from the rise in weight on sumos so I’m not surprised by the pullups and rows. Trying to work the right side more since it seems to be weaker than the left…
