An Uncommon Pursuit

Wow, 365 squat. Is that a record? Because you missed your bench you couldn’t do deads? So if I miss my squat I won’t be able to move on to bench and deads?

Live and learn Bro! and from your write-up the learning was certainly maxed.

Nice job on the squats!

Sorry things didn’t go better on your bench Skid. Mine coulda been better also. I’ve been opening with a weight that I can easily triple. Gotta get that first lift so you can move on. Glad you had fun and still intend on doing another meet.

Great squatting, Skid – way to pick yourself up on the third attempt, that’s tough. Sorry the rest did not go as you had hoped: get 'em next time.

What did you weigh in at?

Hey, a good effort and a bit of a learning curve. It’s always hard to do that “first” event. Nice that you got some feedback and pointers. That’s what I love about the Iron Game … your competition usually ends up trying to help you improve!

If you miss a lift you can’t continue? If I miss my squat I can’t move on to bench and dead?

That’s correct. Miss all three attempts of a lift and you are done. A bummer, as I wanted to play the deadlift game.

I was gonna stick around a help load plates, but I had another thing I had to do after the meet.

180 pounds with all my clothes on.

Thanks DZ. My plan was originally the same - and the opener was going to be 245. Got overconfident on that one and it bit me appropriately. Gotta respect the weights, even if you think they’re itty-bitty.

Those are good weights to lift – and glad you didn’t take your clothes off as threatened.

You’re not a virgin anymore and you learned a lot. Good squats. Next meet you’ll know. And what idiot said get mad? Guess you’re more analytical than emotional. You went and competed, be proud.

I think you played yours just right. You stuck to your plan and executed wonderfully, going by your report.

Nah - I didn’t want to stun anyone with my Adonis-like development and RIPT ABZ™, bro. The autograph signing would have taken up all my prep time. Best to keep my clothes on.

You put it on the line and went for it.I tip my hat to you brother.Every time you you step onto the plateform it is a learning experience.A setback is a setup for a comeback. You will come back and overcome.

Thanks JT and all the rest of you for your kind encouragment.

I’m lookin’ for that second meet right now on Powerlifting Watch. December sounds good to me.

Heck of a story there. Hats off indeed. Takes a lot to keep going when your struggling a bit. And like the boys have said, now you know what to expect say, in December? Great job no matter what. Train your way to the holidays, then un-wrap a nice, new box of ass-kicking at your next meet! For the record, I’d buy you that steak and icecream for your squat alone!

I know what you mean about using anger as a motivating force. I’ve never been able to use anger as a driver in my training. I know a lot of guys thrive with this attitude but it just doesn’t work for me. My best lifts happen when I feel positive about my technique and form. The idea of “getting mad at the bar” just seems silly to me.

I think hel got it right when he said that you are more analytical than emotional. I suffer from the same illness. It really drove my ex-wife crazy, such the reason she is my ex-wife…

So that makes for an official 2+ x BW squat: you just punched your ticket to the show.

Remember, we knew you when.
