Just found a new term: Gymbecile
Pretty damn accurate terminology!
Followed your link above and found this on there, too. Never used or seen these hooks but looks like they’d be a useful piece of equipment to have.

I go there almost every day. Lots of Bill Starr, Paul Anderson, Pat Casey stuff. Some of the old time York lifters are profiled as well. Some stuff goes back to Sandow’s and Saxon’s time, even.
Might have to wait a day on Squats/DL. My son and I went to the beach today. He boogie boarded and I, for whatever deranged reason, searched out, dug up, transported and piled large rocks. Nothing less than 100 lbers would do.
The back, she is tired. But it was fun and my son joined in after a bit, with smaller rocks of course. We got quite a pile together, draped it with washed up seaweed and put an old board in front and some sticks on it. I don’t know what the hell it’s supposed to be, but you can tell someone’s been there…

Sounds like a good time to me!

You are too damn funny! I bet when you were a kid you used to take stuff apart just because… didn’t you?
Love the new avatar, and I have added the Bill Starr blog to my favourites as well. Found myself nodding my head in agreement while reading… good stuff! Thanks Skid!
Oh… put your pile of rocks on ebay… sure you could sell it as “Art”.
I took my dog apart once - I couldn’t get a working version after that. And I had to see Mr. Feldstein twice a week to “talk about stuff.”
What’s ebay?
Joke, joke.
Mostly.
So my dumbbell hooks arrived. Looks like they’ll hold up to at least 120 lbs, I’m guessing. They didnt even flex when I hung 100 lb DB in them. So I’m lookin’ to do some bigger DB work now that I don’t have to hoist the things into position.
The down side (?) of them is that they increase the effective size of the handle, due to the velcro-secured wrap that goes around the DB handle, so I’m gonna have to squeeze like crazy to hang on to them. They’re like fat handled DBs now.
Cool.

That’s it. took 2 hours, though.
Went to commercial gym today just to get my sorry ass out of the house. Had to wait for the power cage for a bit until I could work in with the gentleman using it, so I warmed up with lunges.
I had to do high bar squats since he was about 4 inches taller (and about 50 lbs heavier) than me and the J hooks were a bit high. I took the weight he was doing half squats with and went rock bottom with a pause on each rep…after which he decided he didn’t want to squat with me anymore.
My bad - I shouldn’t show up guys bigger than me. I think I have a small man complex, being the shortest man in my family…
Pretty happy with the partials, but I think I could have done better had I eaten more yesterday and had something to eat before training.
Still sucking wind on the sumos, but they were ALL sumos this time. Started with taking 3 breaths on the reset and don’t remember the end, really. It was hard enough keeping count and just trying to breathe.
I kept adjusting my feet inward a bit trying to improve my leverage (a.k.a cheating) so I have to stay at this weight until I can keep my hips low.
Had a nice chat with an older gentleman who looked to be in decent shape and was asking if I used supplements. I told him about MSM, glutamine, fish oil, wheat germ oil, the effects of cutting out carbs from my diet and how that helped reduce my joint pain.
Got some odd looks doing the weighted planks from the youngsters.
The DB cleans were to help this shoulder along. They just felt right to do.
Might go back there for elevated deads next week.
I get a lot of odd looks at the gym(not bec of my looks). No one does cleans or deadlifts. And a 1 handed db clean or snatch is unheard of. I’m waiting for someone to tell me I shouldn’t arch my back when I bench. Nice work.
That’s true - I have never seen someone deadlifting there when I work out there. The older fella I talked to today claimed that he did and actually tried to do my bar after I’d finished, but his form was all off and he couldn’t get it off the ground so I don’t think it’s a usual lift for him.
I see a lot of guys with big bulky shoulders and chests, large arms and weak flat backs with no legs - injuries waiting to happen.
The ladies seem to stay out of the free weight area and I don’t see them much on the machines either. It’s a pity, since they’d lose fat faster and look better by building some muscle rather than hunching over on the treadmill, craning their necks at the TV.
I think once I get 5@405 I’m gonna drop the pins three inches.
women who lift usually look better then the treadmill only fans
Fantastic workout Skid! Sumos DLs (and grip work!!!) and squats in the same workout… wicked!
We have about 6-10 guys in my gym that heavy DL and Squat.
We have another 10-15 that pretend to…
That youtube video is too freakin’ funny. Especially the chains on the right side too… and looks like he has nothing on the other side.
