Tuesday 15/5/12
6am - 30 min run. always fells hard at this time of the morning
Wednesday 16/5/12
boxing 6.30pm - 8.30pm
trainer absolutely flogged us tonight.
warm up included-
100 squat thrusts(think thats waht they are called, basically burpees without the jump)
100 bicycles
plank for awhile
50 squat thrusts
100 bicycles
100 squat thrusts
plank again
20 commandos - going from plank on elbows onto hands, and back again
20 push ups
i was fucked after that.
followed by-
2 rnds shadow
2 rounds heavy bag
alot of rounds of: 4 to a bag, 20 secs on hard as you can, then rest til its your turn again. even though we got 1 min rest between rounds it was still a killer
few rounds pad work- working on body rips, uppercuts
couple rounds of 1-2s walking back and forwards the lenght of the gym
finished with a bit more core stuff
definitely the hardest workout i had in a while.
Thursday 17/5/12
I felt like doing a few weights but also wanted to get a bit of a sweat going. I decided to do a barbell complex i found on this site-
Row
Clean
Front squat
Military press
Back squat
Good mornings - looking back i did stiff legged dead lifts instead of good morning oops
I did the version where you start at 8 reps, then increase the weight and drop a rep each round. I started with just the bar 8x20kg, and worked up to 1x60kg. Nice little workout. I found OHP by far the hardest, alhough my grip was giving me a bit of hassle on the cleans too.
Saturday 19/5/12
10am - 12 boxing
did a couple of rounds shadow to warm up
did about 7 rounds of sparring(2 mins). 3 in a row, then swapping out partners so you get a fair bit of a rest.
Sparring went well. One guy had a great jab which i got caught with a fair few times. Another thing i learned - when i have someone backed up on the ropes and im battering them, im complacent and lazy and dropping my hands. I got caught twice with a big overhand right when doing this.
Overall good session though
Monday 21/5/12
6.30 - 8.30 boxing
couple rounds shadow to warm up
good few rounds on pads with partner
3 rounds on heavy bag
shitload rounds on heavy bag - 20 secs on, 40 secs off. hard as you can.
load of core stuff
Tuesday 22/5/12
had to go and do my medical for the fight after work. this meant traveling by public transport across the city so by the time i got home i couldnt be fucked doing anything
Wednesday 23/5/12
Boxing 6.30pm - 8.30pm
couple rounds shadow and skipping
3 rounds on the bag
couple rounds sparring in close, taking turns to pop off 4 or 5 puch combos, in tight - no straight pucnhes. changing partner every 1 min.
some pads
then the trainer got everyone around the ring and did a bit of strategy stuff. its most of the groups first fight so it was interesting for us. got us all in at different times and pointed out weakness and strengths. also did alot of mixing it - small vs tall, strong fat guy vs lanky fast and fit, boxer vs pitbull brawler etc… it was good.
Thursday 24/5/12
6am - i did the barbell complex i did last week on the same day. failed on the 60kg OHP. not sure if it was cause my shoulders were tired or cause it was early morning with no fuel in my belly
6pm - took the dogs to the park and ran for bout 20mins. finished with 7x60m sprints. I’ll never beat those bloody dogs on the sprints.
Saturday 26/5/12
10am - 12 boxing
some skipping and shadow, then straight into sparring.
I hadnt even broken a sweat by the first round of sparring so felt terrible. I was really slow and clumsy. me and the guy i was sparring with are usually pretty even but he was all over me for the first 2 rounds. once i warmed up properly i losened up and started to get a bit better. probably did about 8 2 min rounds altogether. 1 was with a southpaw, the only southpaw in the group(of 24) and my first time sparring him. awkward as fuck sparring a southpaw. never did it before in boxing. he got me a good bodyshot on my right hand side. stopped me in my tracks it did.
Monday 28/5/12
630pm - 8pm boxing
couple rounds shadow
good few rounds padwork
3 rounds sparring
2 rounds shadow
some ab work
Tuesday 29/5/12
6am light run 25 mins
Been awhile since I posted here, been busy.
Fight is on tomorrow night so training tapered off over the last week or so. Pretty nervous at this stage, dont even know who im fighting yet. Will find out tonight at the weigh in. I have 2 people in my head it could be:
1- is a southpaw, i have sparred before. it went shit but i had know idea how to fight a southpaw at that stage. I have gone over a few things with a trainer so feel a bit more confident about fighting a southpaw now. He is a couple kilos heavier and stronger(that is he a bit of a muscly bastard) in good shape. I think id be a bit more experienced than him, but with being a southpaw and stronger we’ll see. Its both of ours first proper fight.
2- is an older guy i never sparred. have seen him spar and he lucks awkward as fuck. does that kinda mayweather sideways right hand open in front of the face thing. he didnt do a lot when i saw him spar but looked awkward. not sure of his experience, he carries himself like he knows what he is doing anyway.
might be neither of these so ill have to wait ans see tonight. I’ll be a bit more settled when i know.
At this stage I cant wait to get in there and get it done. i havent had a drink in 8 weeks! longest ive been off the booze in a long long time. I have a four day weekend so going to hit it hard
I won my fight!
pretty happy with myself. I ended up fighting the older guy i though i might fight. He won the first round but i won the 2nd and 3rd. He rocked me in the 2nd with a banger to the chin. i had the flashes but came good. jaw is still sore but. It was a great night. 1200 people there, class venue, and the promoters did a good job. been on the piss since. the pic is taken from someones phone. hope to see proper pics soon
Tuesday 12/6/12
did a small few weights tonight. felt good to be lifting something again. although strength has dropped off a fair over the last 8 weeks or so.
worked up to 4x80kg
few sets of 10x60kg
cpl of close grip sets
i was reading the article on here about barbell rows so gave that method a crack. you can lift less weight on it so that suits me with my bad grip.
did a good few sets but cant rememebr now.
couple of arms exercises and sets on the ab wheel.
just easing myself back in really. nothing too strenous. looking forward to getting back into the 531 program over the next week or so.
Wednesday 13/6/12
i was helping a friend out doing his bootcamp/boxing circuit class in the park this evening.
Just holding pads, bit of running around, push ups situ ps etc… worked up a bit of a sweat.
Afterwards i took the dogs to the park for about 20mins running, few sprints and small hills thrown in.
Thursday 14/6/12
first time doing these in awhile. worked up to 2 sets of 5x90kg. was a lot harder than it used to be.
did a couple of sets at 60kg
worked up to 8x40kg, 4x45kg, 2x50kg
same form as the other night. bent over to pretty much 90 degrees, palms facing away
3x10x50kg
tri ext, bi curl, ab wheel circuit x 3
Friday 15/6/12

15x25kg, 30kgx10,10,9, 12x25kg
10x28, 7x28, 7x28, 8x23kg, 7x23kg.
