Not sure if this is more appropriate for current events, but it’s a great article. It shows that well-trained citizens with rifles can defend themselves remarkably well even when outnumbered by the worst aggressors.

It’s similar to the data vagueness of comparing unarmed and armed communities who are situated right next to each other. If a robber has a choice, he’ll simply go for the easy prey. It doesn’t really give us a complete picture just a comparison. In that case, we don’t really know what would happen if both Shelbyville and Springfield are armed and ready.
If you’re a Palestinian freedom fighter and you want to capture as many hostages as possible or cause chaos, of course you withdraw immediately when confronted with resolute defenders. From a military point of view, Hamas’ tactics are understandable. You gain nothing by getting pinned down when speed is of the essence.
From a gun rights perspective, this, too, is a no brainer. Are you a militant settler? Buy a gun, train with your neighbours.
