Ammonia smell

What’s up with ammonia sweat smell? I sometimes get it at the gym. but now starting to notice it at work when I sweat.

I drink enough water, I eat enough protein, I eat enough carbs and even have upper the carbs and water intake before workouts and water during workouts to combat this.

Also, I’m on accutane, have been for 5 months. Idk if this plays a role

Any ideas or help with this?

How much is “enough”?

Roughly a gallon or a little more of water a day.

220 grams of protein a day.

and usually 80 grams crabs preworkout. 200-300 grams of carbs a day.

Also updated that I’m on accutane idk if that plays a role.

What is your height and weight? How do you space your protein intake?

I’m 5’11 230lbs. Been cutting down weight slow and steady. I have a meal in the morning around 7:30 am. a meal at lunch 12:30, another meal pre workout around 3:00 or 3:30, workout around 5:00pm or 5:30pm and a meal post workout in the evening around 7:00 or 7:30.

I’d consider reducing protein intake. If you’re 230 and cutting weight, it leads me to believe you’re not a lean 230. 220g of protein is practically 1g per pound of bodyweight, but, often, protein recommendations are hinged around LEAN bodyweight rather than bodyweight total.

That is, of course, if the ammonia smell is of concern to you. It tends to be associated with high protein diets.

Gotcha thanks brotha I’ll give it a go and see what happens. I need to get my body fat% checked Definitely not a lean 230 but also not a fat ass 230 lol. I do very intense workouts and a lot of volume so therefore for a while I was thinking I wasn’t getting enough carbs to supply my workouts. So I started eating more before and it seems to have helped, but I just started noticing it while sweating at work. I’ve also cut down the volume and crazy weights to see if maybe I’m doing too much but I feel like I definitely recover how I’m supposed to be and haven’t ran into any joint issues or any other signs of over training. Thanks again!

Is it just your sweat or do you notice it on your breath?

Not in the breath just in my sweat

You arent taking anything like Lipo-C, are you?
The only time I noticed excessively bad body odor was when I was taking this.

I actually noticed that the cleaner my diet - the less I smell. Like I can go days without showering and not smell at all (according to my wife, daughter, coworkers). This may play a role… more related to what you’re eating than its nutritional content.

I have zero scent, odor, stench at all… i love it

just meat and eggs…no fruits, veges or starches. Literally zero b.o. at all even after taking off my body armor in 100 plus degree heat after 12 hours

It seems directly correlated. When i have some junk food I notice a different scent the next couple days

I eat a decent amount of veggies and clean good however my portions are fairly large. I have noticed the smell more when I eat like shit so that’s definitely gotta be it or too much protein. I’ve lowered my protein and been eating clear and haven’t noticed it. Also, I have a few shirts that have the smell still stuck on them. So I think too wearing these shirts all the time is part of it. Since I’ve switched to different shirts I don’t smell it anymore either.

I got that same smell, in march I got diagnosed with stage 3b kidney disease, that ammonia smell is protein in your urine , that’s what my doctor said, you should get a blood test and urine to check if you have protein in your urine
