I’ll agree that these type of things are stupid. Policy that seems to be revengeful just doesn’t go over well. We should strive for equality, but we shouldn’t strive for policies that reward one group at the cost of another group in zero sum game situations (like this).

But it is political suicide to stand up against the crazies in the left party. Manchin and Sinema can both prove that.
Most of us don’t think all lefties are woke/crazed bastards, but the unwillingness to vocally oppose the woketards makes the rest of the party complacent. If you are one who openly opposes the dumb shit the far left does, then this does not apply to you =)
I should say that the far right has idiots like MTG too. But I also see far more people on the right vocally opposing MTG than I see people on the left opposing AOC, Tliab, Omar, etc.
Complacency empowers these rhetorics, unfortunately.
