the latter is an argument they make, but the former is not. You might find a wackadoo Dr or 2 out there who argue that, but that’s obviously nonsense, and most doctors aren’t morons.
I’m not going to argue anything about today’s world, but systemic racism obviously HAS had an impact on black peoples access to quality healthcare for a long time. When that ‘stopped’, or whether it has at all, is debatable, just not a debate I want to participate in because nobody changes their minds on this.
I understand what he’s saying but I think the majority of this racial bitterness or whatever you want to call it is either found online or coming from the views of the really extreme people.
In my day to day life I see most people of all races/ethnicities get along just fine with one another. Might not love each other but there’s no real hatred present.
Also my observation, but probably not true everywhere. What I am confident of though, is that we’re in a better situation now than when my parents were growing up in the 60s and 70s and probably a better place than when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s.
CRT in action. Is a persons “color” based on performance? Are they insinuating that people of color are too stupid to perform and need every advantage they can get?
Sure, I’ll be vague about it, though. I am between 45 and 54… That’s a good range. I grew up in Georgia to parents who are refugees from communism, Czechoslovakia and Cuba. Literal escapee’s. I didn’t speak English until I was 5. I grew up 10 miles from the grand dragon of the KKK and we used to get flipped off by our neighbors as they drove by our house. And it’s 10 times worse today then back in the 70’s.
Really? Back when it would’ve been illegal for my white mother and Native American father to get married? Back when the-still-on-the-books-last-time-I-checked law that stated three or more Native Americans traveling together could legally be considered a war party and if seen, could be shot on sight?
Back when people would move because a black family moved onto their street? Or back when (I’ll make it white on white for fun) my mom’s parents began dating, and my grandfather’s German parents hated that he was dating a Norwegian?
“Back in the day” most people (of all backgrounds) probably did far less “mixing” and interacting with groups outside of their own, and I don’t think that we can assume that led to stellar attitudes regarding those different from themselves.
You get flipped off by ten times the amount of people these days? I’m sorry.
What else are you supposed to do if your neighbors are Chiricahua Apache? They basically had superpowers in the 19th century. If they don’t want to get shot they shouldn’t travel in war parties. How hard is that?
I suppose there’s an argument that the law is out-dated, but how can we be sure they won’t start raiding again if we let them travel in packs of three? There’s still 650 of them left according to Wikipedia.
Made by people. Whose views were often shared by the people who voted them into office. And said laws were often carried out/followed by people.
I mean, consider Pat’s story. He was flipped off by people driving through his neighborhood. Do you think it’s because those people loved having someone of his ethnicity in their area? Did they not have any hatred towards them?
I can’t speak for those guys. Different region, not sure what laws were held. A “war party” could include a man and his grandparents though…not exactly warrior material, although some grandmas can be deadly with a frying pan.
I know I’m just busting chops. Those guys did cause a LOT of problems though, and have a fascinating and tragic tale.
Like most populations.
Where I grew up in Indiana there were only vestiges of overt structural racism by the time I was aware of those things. 60 years before I was born it was a Klan hotbed, with something like 30 percent of Hoosiers being open members.
I’ll go back to my original point: I imagine most people have always gotten along just fine in daily life. I can’t go back in time to prove it, so you can believe it or not.
I didn’t say families enthusiastically embraced interracial dating. I didn’t say people wanted to live in neighborhoods with people from different cultures.
If people have a problem with this, I question how well they get along in daily life…if I am so upset by who moved in next door am I likely to get along with when I see them in the store, at work, etc.?
To me, getting along means at least being okay with, if not quite supportive of, sharing a community. Many people didn’t want to do that.
I think it would work as long as naxalon blocks the euphoric effects of the opiate and, depending on the character of the addict, gets sufficient mental support during and after quitting.
I’ve written several times before that I don’t drink because I do not get anything out of it. I did, however, make myself drink a lot to keep my alcohol tolerance high even on nights when I didn’t have to entertain clients. I began to HATE drinking. When I didn’t have to do so much entertaining, I just stopped completely without any cravings nor side effects. It was “like that’s it. Thank God. I’m done with this shit”. I have so much alcohol in my basement from gifts from friends in the form of expensive hard liquors and red wine to cartons of beer my brother won when made a bet with several people that Trump would win in the previous election I could open a bloody pub but I never even have the urge to touch them. All I do is keep records on who gives me the expensive stuff so I can give them away to others when the occasion calls for it lol. I think all the beer has expired but I’m too lazy to throw them out.
It’s similar to benzos. I was prescribed 2 types for 2 weeks for jet lag and a little stress because of the jet lag and balancing my workload. One of them was lexotan which calmed me down a bit but it was a low dosage that was supposed to be taken 2 hours before bedtime just get my brain relaxed to prepare me for bedtime since I was still working long hours with my sleep pattern all fucked up. The other one was one of the “new” types of benzos in the mid 2000s but I can’t remember what it was called. There were only 3 types of them, though, so if you guys know anything about this shit. you’ll probably know what it is.
This was a normal dosage and it gave me NOTHING at all, not even any minor calming effects other than the ability to fall right asleep but a chick I knew was addicted to it and I discovered MORE people were getting addicted to that shit than the one that calmed me down. I suffered severe side effects in the form of sleeplessness when I came off but I did not crave the drugs.
The problem I have now is quitting smoking because I DO get a kick out of each puff. It’s the only common vice that works on me. Pfizer recalled the drug that’s supposed to block the brain’s ability to get any form of pleasure out of nicotine or something and I can’t even find it in online Indian pharmacies since no one has produced any generics yet. Friends I knew who tried it told me they started disliking smoking when on it just like I did when drinking alcohol so I tried to get it but I can’t find it anywhere anymore. The nicotine substitutes just don’t cut it and I don’t think it’s just the nicotine but also psychological dependence. I have no idea what it is. The only thing that stops me from smoking is a vicks inhaler lol. Cut down my smoking by half using it and threw away my nicotine gum. Hopefully I’ll be able to completely quit soon.
The psychological dependence part is something I don’t really understand, though. I had a friend who went to Aus to study and spent all his tuition money on meth. The price for foreign students there is pretty high so he had a lot of cash to support his addiction. Then he ran out of money and broke up with his girlfriend. The combination of both made him decide to either set himself on fire in his car, which would IMO have wrecked a perfectly good car, or commit seppuku.
Not kidding.
He decided on the latter but found himself in too much pain to continue after he stabbed himself and ended up calling the hospital hotline.
Is it the one that hypothetically doesn’t take credit cards at the moment and only has some kind of online check payment or something like that which is only available to people in the US?
