I’d rather watch “Battle Dome” lol. If anybody remembers,“Justice” and “Titan” were on that show. So was the dude from White Chicks…Terry Crews.
i only caught Battle Dome a few times, wasnt it on The Nashville Network before it made the switch to The National Network, and then it turned into Spike right ?
Do they ever run reruns of it on Spike ? It seems like it would fit perfect into their present style.

ps Anybody else think they should ship in some of the better known guys from Ninja Warrior ? I know they all weigh like 160, but i still think it would be entertaining as hell, and they would absolutely tear apart the last event.

Damn,Helga’s voice scary…I’d still tag it…after a pack of Red Bull and full riot gear.

And yeah, definitely not the strictest pull-ups. That was some intense pelvic thrusting going on.
While I’m not going to say 35 pullups in 30 seconds isnt athletic, yeah, they werent strict.
I mean, they even looked retarded.
I am sure he could do a good amount of pullups if there wasn’t a stupid 30 second time restriction. [/quote]
Oh, no doubt about that. I was just saying.
What the shit is the deal with a time restraint, anyway?

Agreed, that’s stupid as shit. I can think of no instance in life, athletics, or even American Gladiators itself, where there’s only so much time that you have to get your chin over a bar as many times as you can.
So let’s say Joe Schmoe can do 39 pullups in 30 seconds, but can only do 50 total, and John Schmore can do 32 in 30 seconds, yet can do 75 total. Joe Schmoe is the better Gladiator, because he can do bullshit chin-up reps slightly faster?
Oh well, who cares I guess.
I just noticed this thread and was pleased to find it, as I have nothing but gripes about the new American Gladiators.
I was a fan of the show as a little kid (I remember watching it with my dad) and was excited to see it coming back on NBC. However, I watched 3 segments on television of the premier and one segment of the next show the next day and decided enough was enough.
It’s not about athletics, it’s about glamour and glitz. This isn’t true American Gladiators. This is a cheap knockoff.

ONLY 50? This example makes me feel very weak.

I am guessing it was due to the probably large number of applicants. I still think they should have given at the very least 60 seconds.

Don’t, most people that can do over 50 pullups are weak as shit once you yank their gangly ass off the chin-up bar.
My example was purely hypothetical. I’m not sure if Mike O’Hearn would be able to get those same 39 pullups, regardless of time-limit, if they had to be with strict form. 260 is a lot of weight to pull up.
Anyone still watching this show? I have been really enjoying it.
Titan took the two contestants to school in the joust this week.
The guy is strong.
yea that kid evan is going to win it all, he just flys through the eliminator.

Sadly, I predicted that on page 4 of this thread, albeit sarcasticly, before he had even competed.
He appears to be a decent athlete with decent speed, but he would never have been this successful in the old version.
I quit watching the show but did watch part of it Monday night. The show sucks, there is not enough physicality and the gladiators are horrible at thier events. For the contestants, it is simply a matter of being quick and having a bit of endurance. I’m not even going to get into all of the production problems.
I laugh every time they say the name Hellga.
I couldn’t help but laugh at the woman a show or two back who took about 3 minutes to get over the wall in the very first part of the eliminator, how sad.

I actually went to high school with that girl…She’s only like 5’1" tall. And she’s a knicks city dancer. I was disappointed when she struggled getting over that wall but hey what r u gonna do? I felt she gave it her all and never gave up.

There comes a point where “your all” isn’t good enough. Not everybody is meant to be a professional athlete, or a contender on American Gladiators. The contenders, and producers, need to realize this.

Wow, you posted this prediction as a joke and it turned out to be right!
Both Evan and Monica dominated the events and are worthy champions, but it’s hard for me to take them seriously as athletes because they’re so skinny and they’re both pretty annoying. Evan sounds like a gay man on amphetamines for crying out loud.
I was at the try-out at New York, and here were a couple of things I’ve noticed:
-Athleticism is just a small part of what they’re looking for. Look and personality are also major factors (you get a photo taken of yourself at the beginning, and after the physical tests there is a very brief interview). Understandably, there are a lot of people trying out, and it’s hard to separate people based on athleticism alone; it is fortunate that so many people have a chance to try out, since from what I’ve heard with the old show they eventually limited it to locals since they couldn’t afford to fly or house people anymore. But I’m sure you would all be annoyed that they don’t place as high a value on athleticism as they should.
-The other option besides doing a tryout was to submit a video of yourself (this is different from those clips you see of the contenders working out; from what I understand people who do make it onto the show have to record these clips in addition to whatever tryout process they went through). I’m not a big fan of this, as for one, you don’t have to wait in line to submit a video, and two, it doesn’t necessarily reflect athleticism as well as going through an actual tryout (you can fake something on a video).
-At the tryouts, the men outnumbered the women by far. Still, with the number of people trying out in several different regions, you would think they wouldn’t have to pick a woman who couldn’t make it past that wall in the Eliminator, but if something can explain this, maybe this is it.
-I also heard somewhere that Monica didn’t even try out; her agent put her in contact with the show. This makes me somewhat suspicious. At the NY tryouts they had some “VIPs” who were able to go before anyone who waited in line, and apparently these guys had agents who made arrangements with NBC. Of course, just because you have an agent doesn’t guarantee anything, and some of the “VIPs” looked less than impressive. But still, I don’t like this . . .
Evan is a 10 on the unintentional comedy scale.
Monica is unbelievably hot… and so is Siren… and so is Venom.
Love the show.

A joke? What are you talking about? I was dead serious!
Did anybody else get the impression that the final round was fixed? There were 4 events and Alex had never even competed in two of them. The wall was also in there, and Evan was a rock climbing teacher. So 3 out 4 events he had a clear edge. The joust is just pathetic with these pip squeak contenders. I would like to know when the events for the finals were chosen.
I’m glad Monica won, though. She was hot.
I’ve enjoyed watching Gina Carona ‘crush’ the contenders.
She has just demolished people in the Joust, Powerball, and Pyramid. She struggled a bit on Earthquake, but if you are going to struggle, you might as well do it in style by getting DQ’d for kicking the contender in the head.
As expected, she is fucking bruiser. Not to mention she is pretty easy on the eyes.
