Am I spending too much $?

I like Costco (or Sam’s Club, or whatever), too. Their chicken, beef, and salmon cost about 1/2 what they do in regular grocery stores. Beef jerkey is 1/4 the price. There’s a membership fee, ($50 / yr.), but I’ve calculated it, and the fee pays for itself pretty quickly. Especially if you occasionally get big ticket items there, too, like a lawnmower, microwave, etc…

Also, check whole or natural foods stores that are run not-for-profit. Look for ones run by co-ops or churches. There’s a 5 lb. bag of oatmeal in my kitchen cabinet right now that I got from an Adventist Health Food store for $2.63. That’s about 3 cents per ounce. They also have cheap nuts and other grains, and flax seed oil.

Tony,

Nah, you don’t have to do anything special to get it. Much to Brent’s dismay, the Humane Society forced us to do away with our beastialist initiation ceremony. It’s too bad, as he had gotten so attached to that three-legged donkey…

Good string you guys…

In hopes of cutting back on the cost of the potatoes carrots and salsa ingredients I use up weekly, my roomate and I decided to put in a garden and see what happens. I put in some acorn/butternut squash and some corn too. Overall it was pretty inexpensive to get started. I’m just hoping the crop yield will be enough to at least subsidise the amount of veggies we go through.

Now I just need a good milkin’ cow, chickens, and a pond full of crappies to round off the diet…
