Alpha's Work

Truer words have never been written.

aspengc: Man your not a wuss just have a little setback going on…I had a bad knee thing happen in 98…still have pins holding my kneecap together right now…Good luck with everything bro!

USMC: Thats awesome bro, thanks a lot! Oh and I did submit that last rant to both Chris Shugart and TC, and to Elitefts…we will see what happens but I am not going to get my hopes up

espenl: Thanks so much bro!

*** So I am off to Tampa tomorrow before I am off to Europe for the rest of the week. I am going to try and hit up a gym out out there for the 531 squat day…I hope I can find one, or else it will just be a long run for me…If anyone out the wants to train PM me…

Thanks for reading, it really does mean a lot!

This has to be one of the greatest posts…actually collection of words that I have ever read. Over the past few years, I’ve been focusing on alot of self help, personal development, and this exactly sums up everything that is discussed and straight to the point. You must be a very level-headed and inspiring individual Alpha to write a piece like this. You’ve just summed up Gandhi, Martin Luther King, the sum of all previous motivational speakers, Churchill, Kennedy, and countless other leaders of our time, in a way that a majority of people will understand. You’ve just lit a fire under everyone’s asses, including mine. Thank you.

Hurts, don’t it?

Nice rant, I think with your permission I may have to forward that on to a few of my friends! They don’t always ‘get it’ and it’s hard to explain it to them sometimes.

In a similar vein, I recently told a friend that Sir Ranulph Fiennes was one of my hero’s (after he climbed Everest aged 65 at the 3rd attempt, after having a triple heart by-pass). My friend said ‘Why do you have guys as your hero’s who like pushing themselves to the absolute limit?’ I told him that ‘Limits are there to be pushed and hero’s are the men who push them, I aspire to be one of those men’

…although I’m not quite in Fiennes league just yet

Modi: tear…tear…words can’t hurt me…

Lift&eat: pass it along bro. And thanks so much for you kind words!

It would’ve cost me $70 to got to a real gym…I will squat tomorrow! That’s like $ 10 q rep! Wtf!?

So today I did a 30 min random run on the treadmill…its something I guess…LAME…

Sorry I’m not my normal smartass self but I’m posting this from my blackberry…

I am also focused on personal development, I had very similar sentiments while reading your post on determination.

You’re certainly an inspiration Alpha, keep up the good work.

Chi-Town & BS Runner: Thanks a lot fellas, I sure do appreciate the encouragement

06.06.09

Training: 5/3/1 - Week 2 - Day 4
Warm-up: dynamic

(ATG) Squats: Based off of 550lbs x 1 Max - 90% =495 lbs

(ATG) Squats:
70% = 345/3
80% = 395/3
90% = 445/6 - I was really hoping for more here…

Accessory Work:

GIant Set:
Front Squats: 295/8, 295/8, 295/8, 295/5

Good Mornings: 205/10, 205/10, 205/10, 205/10

Plate SIde bends: 7 sets of 8 reps each side

Superset:
BB Rows: 205/10, 205/10, 225/10
Standing Cable crunches: 3 sets of 10 of the full rack

Energy systems work: Complexes

3 Sets or 8 reps each exercises all sets done w/ 95lbs

Row
Overhead squat
Back Squat
Good Mornings
Behind the neck press
Deads
Run 250 meters as fast as possible
Repeat

Notes:

-I was hoping for 1 or 2 more on the squats, but apparently not having heavy weight on my back every week has turned me into a raging vag…

-Front squat just about killed me. On my 7th rep of the 3rd set on my exhale I spit my gum accross the room and had to pause to stop laughing before I could finish my last rep…I think core weakness is holding me back on these as they are never hard for my legs, just for the rest of my body to hold the bar over the middle of my foot…

-good mornings I still am not a fan of, I still prefer STDL or romanians, but I will stick with them a little bit longer…

-Oh and big surprise…Complexes still suck!

Overall:

I worked hard today, just like everyone else says…on paper 5/3/1 looks like cake, and your main exercises really are…but, at least for me, Accessory exercises is where I am really pushing myself…

-Still Skeptical of the 5/3/1 but am still sticking to it.

-Hopefully I can get the Military day done tomorrow before heading to Europe…

projectile gum FREE with every purchase,

-b

This may be the best log on the site! (nosarcasm)
I found it after reading the car-wreck of the guy wanting validation to not want to bench 405.

Alpha,

I had had an extremely long day of work and very little sleep the night before, and when I got to the gym today, I wasn't really feeling it and after warming up, almost decided to head home. Then, I thought of this thread and how you're traveling all over being a fuckin badass and still training your balls off and eating well.. so I knuckled up and beat my numbers from last week.

Great log to follow man.

Until today I had never been in the training log section. I have read through the entire 15 pages of this log and believe I will continueto do so for as long as you are willing to keep sharing. Phenomenal.

your new pic makes you look enormous, keep up the good work man.

Question: Do you always know when you are going to be deployed? I mean, for how long did you know you were going to europe? I definitely feel safer that there are athletic monsters like you doing the CT stuff globally, but do you ever find that your weightlifting makes you really tired for your actual missions?

Thanks for checking out my new log. I think you were the only one who commented on my last one, so I really appreciate that. Congrats, on your increased recognition on this site! You may or may not have been looking for the popularity, but your training log and diet set the bar high for all of us in some way.

I meant to ask you, if you had a more steady work schedule would your ideal training schedule be? 4 days per week (weights & energy systems in same session) or weights 3 days with energy systems trained on 3 others? Also would you modify your diet at all? Take it easy, be safe

Alpha,

I’m sure once you adapt to 5/3/1 you will see a significant increase in your reps. I’d give it two more weeks before giving up on it. Maybe it isn’t for you, but maybe it is, only time will tell.

BTW I’m glad you finally changed your avatar, I kept wondering why you didn’t after you posting the newer pics of your monster size! You have made huge improvements, great work bro and I’m glad to see other people who live by the same principals I do. Some of my philosophies have adapted over time due to necessity of surviving the iron game and being healthy, but that never quit always adapt spirit will never die!

Mad_Duck: Man, saying that this is the best log, is such an awesome complement, thank you so much man!

Bugeis: Man that is awesome, I am proud of you! Seeing guys like you do that is EXACTLY why is am keeping this thing, and it totally makes me get it done when I really don’t feel like going too. I am inspired by you guys way more than you guys are by me. Thanks so much for this!

GuerilliaZen: Welcome to the suck! and thanks so much for reading the ENTIRE log, I think you are one of like 10 people who has done that! It is greatly appreciated! The log section is where I spend 99% of my time because it is filled with guys who you can see are actually doing it, rather than just talking about it…It is inspirational to me…

BSRunner: Thanks man, that pic is from like a month or two ago…And…well we know we will be leaving about a month in advance, like for instance the next month or two I will be spending time in Switzerland, then Belgium, then a lot of time in Germany, then France…then who knows, all of this is while doing a normal domestic schedule…I wouldn’t say that lifting makes me more timed for the missions, I’d say that the sleep deprivation is what really makes me tired…I think lifting actually helps me stay sane!

Bparis: Thanks so much for the complements bro, and yeah, I actually really dug your last log, you work your balls off, and that is something I will always do…Stop in and watch someone else hate life for a little bit!

—But if I had a normal 9-5 job, in all honesty, I probably would only do 1-2 shakes a day, and the rest would be lean meats and Vegetables…I think I’d get better gains this way for sure…Ans I would lift probably 4 times seriously a week, maybe 1 extra just screing around hitting this that feel neglected…Oh and I would do GPP/Complexes/Hills/Sled pulls on my off lifting days first thing in the morning with a NEPA walk in the evenings! Sometimes this sounds amazing to me, but training isn’t everything and My job is pretty important to me, and someone has to do it…So I will continue to suck at life and just get i done when I can…Keep killing it bro- Check your six

Free2Be: Thanks for checking in man, it is always nice to see your doing well and staying safe…And man to be honest, 5/3/1 is not challenging to me yet-It very well may get that way though! and so I am just pushing myself on the Accessory stuff right now, it is almost like 2 completely different lifting days each time I walk into the gym right now…5/3/1 is kind of like my warm-up…weird right?

Oh and yeah I kept that pic up because I thought it was the only way that people would recognize me…but not after that thread on the BB forum, it seems like more people are taking notice, so I changed it to be more accurate…

That pic was actually from when I was cutting last year for a fight, that’s why I am so much smaller and depleted (I was still 215-220 in it though), could be the angle too…But either way, I guess now people will see that i am not a shrunken little girl who weighs 95lbs soaking wet!

As a side note, my original avatar was taken a day where StClair20 and I went out in Tempe, Phoenix, got smashed off 190 octanes at Fat Tuesday’s and he passed out on a table outside in the 115 degree heat and sun…when I came back and woke him up only 1/2 of his face was burned…it was hilarious! – we will see what kind of trouble he gets me into tonight/tomorrow in Switzerland…

Off to the gym, hopefully I will try to post the workout if I have time

Fallout from your motivation…came home from the gym and nearly had to crawl to the house from the car. Wouldn’t ya know it…my home slice was all dolled up in a sexy little nightie and my tank was below empty. I’m pretty sure she’ll speak to me sometime this month…thanks again bro!!
