I’m at a loss here. What’s “unmanly” about wearing Toms? They’re comfortable, great for driving in, nice in hot weather etc. Should I be wearing steel toed kicker boots to the beach? Will that make me more manly?
Oh for fuck’s sake, that is about as unmanly a set of footwear as I have ever seen.
I’m so Alpha I had to google “toms”
I had no fuckin idea what they were either.
X4. Hideous footwear no man should ever be seen in.

PhiKappaGuy - In fact, SM’s sentence is grammatically correct, although it’s missing a comma after the word “superior”, which would have clarified his intent. The construction is a simple “…if…then…”. It is not a comparison. If you are going to be a grammar pedant, get it right.

That guy’s clothes fit him well but he doesn’t understand the basic rules. You don’t wear a white t-shirt under a black/navy sweater and fawn coloured trousers don’t go with a black/navy sweater either. When I wear fawn trousers/slacks/chinos I wear a white shirt alone or a sweater of a compatible colour such as mustard or light brown. These rules are actually set in stone and have been for a long time. Others are never wear brown shoes in a navy, grey or black suit. Never wear long sleeves or anything with a collar when you’re wearing shorts. Most of it is really just common sense if you have good taste.
You can absolutely wear brown shoes with a grey suit.

And you’re giving advice after sharing your entirely blue, head to toe get-up, including blue cargo pants and blue toms (wut?), with your purdy Rolex. Funny.
Okay, I’ll just ignore the second part. The attached picture explains it. You can get away with brown shoes and light grey but I wouldn’t do it. This article is actually pretty good:

I can’t really hang around to respond to any more questions. You fellas will just have to find something to do with yourselves till I return. Maybe go workout?
Sorry, man. You’ve lost all credibility with this one. Brown shoes go with every suit except black. Including navy. Including Grey. Including dark grey (maybe not the really dark charcoal grey that looks black).
This is one of the Euro/American disconnects. IF you are in Europe the rules on brown shoes with business colors (Navy, Black, Grey) are much stricter. America is basically relaxed to only black being off limits. Now depending on the formality, black is safer everywhere. Now with my blue or navy suit (not midnight navy) I actually prefer burgundy leathers to black but that’s just me.

Finally, SM violated one of my biggest personal rules. Don’t wear shades of the same color. You end up with a weird monochrome look that I personally cant stand. Also, don’t mix navy and black clothing.
When did I wear shades of the same colour? When did I wear navy with black? Apart from black shoes with navy which is the only colour I would ever wear with a navy suit. Same with a navy blazer and grey slacks; always with black shoes. This rule is still followed today but old guys you see at the RSL clubs and so on. They’d never wear anything other than black shoes with a navy suit or blazer. They’re about the only people left who still dress properly here.

Anyway, you can wear shades of the same colour if they’re earthy or pastel or really any palate that doesn’t include any solid, bright / primary colours. Obviously certain shades of the same colour can clash but many also work well together and create a greater effect than the sum of the parts. Most tartan patterns have different shades of the same colour that go well together because they’re earthy not bright.
That’s a lot of blue…

And the navy/black thing was just an afterthought I tagged on. Should have separated and been more clear.

And jeans are one of those decidedly American pieces of clothing (not sure where you got the Germany thing) and as such, American rules of appropriate dress with jeans are a little different.

I also didn’t say you couldn’t wear the same colors together, just that I don’t like it and it looks weird 99% of the time to me, even when done correctly.

Grey flannel trousers and a navy blazer is another decidedly American pairing, nicknamed the “California Suit”.

Basically many of your opinions on proper dress are completely incorrect if you are an American which the majority of this board is.

Have you found the best style for your head?

You have to try them on first hand, and see which works best with your body chemistry.

Your body chemistry has a major effect on the fragrance. Something that your friend puts on may small bad on you and visa versa

Alpha’s don’t google - if they don’t know it it ain’t worth knowin’ (droppin’ Alpha bombs on the masses)

Interesting answers here:

Seems a lot of people have it in their head that Toms are unmanly, and yet lots of women say they like them on guys and guys saying the same. Some more:

But surely I’m wrong. I should be wearing an old pair of cowboy boots to the beach.

Of course. Either in the Roman style(around 2 inches long and combed forward) or very short all over(number 2 or 3).

Ah no, they’re “riding boots”. Only an idiot walks around in riding boots and only a super idiot would wear them to the beach. I wear R M Williams boots when I’m horse riding and never at any other time.

How would one gauge the effect. When I put on a fragrance I can’t tell if it smells different. It just smells the same as straight out of the bottle to me.

Go shopping with a chick and ask her for her opinion.

A “true” riding boot? You are incorrect. There are many different styles of riding boots. The style with an underslung heel or no more or less authentic or “true” than any other style of riding boot.
BTW, you should’ve clarified that this is a fashion thread for clothes and footwear for “the beach.” That would surely eliminate most of da shit you’ve been posting, eh?
1. It’s not a thread about beach fashion but rather any men’s fashion.

 2. I have already stated in the thread several times I was wearing Toms because I was at the beach.

Hey, I have an idea! Let’s all stop talking about what shoes I wore to the beach last week!

Found the Canadian.

Yep.

By the way, when I was a little kid who LOVED westerns, someone once told me that the underslung heel was invented because when an outlaw was shot and killed, his heels wouldn’t dig into the ground as they dragged his body away.

Seemed legit to an 8-year old at the time. Haha.
