Alpha Lipoic Acid Doses

I thought the max dose was 600mg/day.

But reading 2 sources (Poliquin and Dr. Walsh), they mention upwards of 1800mg/day.

any thoughts?

I wouldn’t go that high. You are able too if planned accordingly, but don’t think its a must have…depending on your weight also.

On my carb-ups (Anabolic Diet) I’ll have up to 3000mg depending on # of carbs I have. Never seen any info on toxicity so I never worried about it.

I feel like 1800mg is an arbitrary number. Say coming from 300mg, before each meal (6).

ALA or R-ALA?

if R-ALA, I wouldn’t go beyond 300-400mg or so.

I use Na-R-ALA, more accurately probably 480mg/day as the label says 300mg, but has a note about 240mg active or something like that.

LE brand

John Meadows dicusses dosage:
Before training I use TP EAA’s (essential amino acids) with a very precise ratio Dr Serrano taught me. During training I use a load of Waxy Maize (Orange Creamsicle is awesome - so is Mango) with BCAA’s and Creatine from a company called Double-T sports. Post workout I usually drink Whey Isolate CFM with some berries. I also take 2 grams of NAC (n acetyl-cysteine) with 900 mg’s of ALA (alpha lipoic acid)

ALA, or Alpha Lipoic Acid Another awesome supplement to reduce free radical activity, this supplement can also support the liver, and even act as a glucose disposal agent to maintain stable blood sugar levels. ALA recycles antioxidants in your body, which can help ward off gut infections. I like 300 mgs in between meals, three times a day for antioxidant purposes (half that dose for the R-form).

personally, using just ALA is a mistake IMO. at least should be R-ALA… the regular ALA which is the ‘S’ form can cmopete with the ‘R’ form, the more natural version

Poliquin will always be on the high end for supplement doses.

I asked MODOK this question in his Q&A thread. He said that there were studies that showed up to 5 grams/day, but that he wouldn’t use more than 2g.
