Incorrect, it’s stories like this that make me glad I’m not a wanna be gangsta black kid.
OMG WAYLANDAHS A RACIST!
I deal with shit like this all the time at work, so blow me!
You know what I hate more? Wanna be gangsta white kids. Every time I hit a stop light, Suzie Q and Johnny S are singing along to Lil Wayne or Young Jeezy, feeling so hood.
Why can’t they just stay in the suburbs and listen to Weezer.
My bad I didn’t know I had to be black to listen to Young Jeezy. Sorry, it won’t happen again.
you don’t have to be black but if you arent street what’s the point?? If you can identify with hood shit then go ahead and rep it but if not, what is your reason? I think Wol is getting at the fakers that listen to the faggot lil wayne and become hood stars because they can recite verses from a green screen thug. In actuality, if you had any hood in you then you’d know most of this shit is just record company bullshit and would laugh at most rappers because of the blatant fakeness. That is what upsets me about a lot of younger rap fans both black and white who don’t know what car keys are.
I mean, you know many atiests bangin Mary,Mary out of their trunk?

I agree completely. Also don’t watch ‘Scarface’ or ‘Blow’ Unless you deal coke. Don’t watch ‘The Departed’ unless you’re a crooked cop. Only consume entertainment made by people just like you. Otherwise you might accidentally get a perspective different from your own.
end sarcasm. Full Stop.

Most of the time these “perspectives” are fantasy. And, no I do not need corporate media to give me perspective.I get that through interacting with people in situations I’m curious about(ya know, life?) I’ve always been one to question why certain things look and sound different in music and movies than reality…it hit me that the shit is a business and a joke.
It’s simple. I don’t need to be told by hollywood how the world works if I did I;d believe The Power Rangers are real. If I followed rap I’d believe Lil Wayne was a real blood and that he didnt buy his status.
“they” provide you with perspective? and you really let them? Holy Hell, dude! Why not go get a connect and do some anthro field play to discover what you want to know?
No I prefer the real world perspective also. In that we agree. I’m just saying theres no accounting for taste. Especially for the taste of a retarded teenager so I try not to get judgemental about what people listen to.
If getting a connect and doing anthro field play means selling coke…I have no desire to enter a world that seedy. I don’t glorify that nonsense. My examples were purely hypothetical.
ok ninja and Eli I get your points. I just have a different stance on the issue because I’ve seen perfectly good kids get ruined because they followed a corporate thug down a road he’s never seen. Some kids do get brainwashed.
And no, by anthro field play I meant general opportunities to explore other aspects of society by actively seeking them out.

Kids getting ruined by rap has nothing to do with whether or not they are hood in my opinion. If a kid is “hood” and he begins letting what rappers say influence his life then he is just as screwed if not more screwed then little Tommy who’s letting it influence his life. Little Tommy who’s parents make decent money and send him to a nice school can go thru his lil Gangsta phase and get past it and do something with his life. Now the lil hood kid who starts letting gangster rap influence his life may end up fking himself. It’s difficult for people who grow up hood to get past it all and really make something of themselves, but add influence of the wrong people, lack of parental motivation and attention, and a crappy school system and that little hood boy is now fkd for life.
I love lil wayne and hip hop, but then again I grew up in LA with most of my cousins and friends in gangs and was in a crew when I was in HS, so I do feel like I can relate. But when I see Tommy in his Scion bumping gangster rap and singing along I don’t get offended. I realize that Tommy is able to listen to that music and not let it dictate who he is. Kudos to Tommy for being smarter than I was at his age. You don’t have to be able to relate to a certain type of group to enjoy the culture of that group. I’ve never been to the Philipines but I sure did go thru my phase where I love philipina women. Now what if because I didn’t know anything about the Philipines I couldn’t date philipina’s. That would’ve sucked and I would have been missing out on a lot. So fk limiting yourself to certain things just cuz you can’t relate. Live life, do what you enjoy, and don’t sweat the small stuff.
just my 2 cents
