All Oatmeal the Same?

Brendan:

On the McCann’s Site (link above) they tell you the various ways to cook them (I use a Pressure Cooker)…

And yes…you can cook up a batch and reheat during the week…

Oh Boy Oh Boy !!!

Awesome now poison protein comes in various sizes and textures. BLAAA

That crap has been around for a while as Texturized vegetable protein.

Here’s how I cook my steel cut and whole oats:

(Note: I think it’s the same way Dr. Berardi mentions in his article)

I throw roughly four cups of water on to boil at night… Once it gets boiling, I toss in 3/4 cup of steel-cut oats. Turn down heat, let boil for 3 minutes. Remove from heat, cover. Let stand over night.

In the morning, I turn the burner to medium heat and let heat for a few minutes. Sometimes, you need to add a little water. I also add 2/3 cup of oat bran at this point. Remove from heat, let stand a minute or two.

Toss in some frozen berries and protein powder, and you are good to go.

I just prepare them the old school way on the stove top in an uncovered pan. Stir occasionally to make sure they don’t burn on the bottom. I usually make at least 4 cups at a time and store in the fridge. I have had no problem eating them 5 or so days later and they still taste great.

I guess, according to the directions on the box, you can soak them overnight and then they cook faster in the morning when you are ready for them. And, according to other posts here, you can use a pressure cooker. Cool. Didn’t know that. Thanks fellas!

I just go to a health food store and buy the steel cut oats from the bulk bins. Scoop up as much as you need and weigh 'em. You can also get groats, oat bran, etc. depending on how well stocked the store is.

I vote with overnight soaking. Cover them in water before you go to bed and let them sit in the fridge overnight. I some boiling water, cinnamon and stevia or Splenda in the morning for breakfast.

Appreciate the help guys. I will give some of your suggestions a try.

Just want to add that if you have a Trader Joe’s in your area, McCann’s are WAY cheaper there…

I exclusively eat Hodgson Mill Oat Bran instead of oat meal.

Each 40g serving (1/4 cup dry) contains:

Total Fat 3g
Sat.Fat 1g
Carb. 23g
fiber 6g
soluble 3g
protein 6g

I usually mix 1/2 cup dry with 1 1/3 cups of water. I microwave for 2 minutes and stir and then microware for 2 additional minutes and stir.

You will need a BIG bowl to keep it from boiling over in the microwave during the second 2 minute cooking stage.

I mix up 2 scoops of Low-Carb Grow! with 2 cups of water.

I add the mixed Grow! shake to the hot oat bran to cool down the oat bran cereal and to make it taste good.

This works great and knocks out my hunger.

For normal people not overly anal, quick oats will work fine, but old-fashioned oats don’t take much longer to cook, so why not use them?

Quick oats are cut while old-fashioned are whole. Other than that, basically the same.

The point is to stay away from “instant” oatmeals that have stuff added to them, like flavorings and sugar. You want 100% oats and nothing else. Add your own frozen berries, honey, grow powder, etc.[/quote]

Why is it everyone trys to stay away from sugar, and then goes right ahead and has honey? This doesn’t make any sense to me.
