Last workout before holiday. I’m still slightly bigger around the waste than I wanted to hit the beach with but I’m not bothered really as after years of playing rugby I’m really happy to be topless or naked anywhere ![]()

Squats felt good today, I definitely better when looser in the hips and more warmed up (that’s probably an issue obvious statement though).
Off on holiday now! Cider and pies await!
This morning I weigh 101.6kg
You gents eat the weirdest food…
Enjoy the beach man!
So finally got my blood results through but I can’t see test or free test on there so guessing they only printed what they thought were the relevant bits (I hate my doctors, they are so unhelpful).
@Andrewgen_Receptors or anyone make any sense out of this?
Did you ask them specifically to measure your test levels?
This is not a very complete panel if your primary complaint was fatigue… Is this everything?
Your creatinine is slightly elevated and your electrolytes normal (so probably not an abnormal reading due to dehydration). This gives you a somewhat depressed eGFR. Kidney disease is very scary, so I’d never tell you to ignore it, but this is a common result for lifters. Your urine albumin number is in-range, as is your A1C, so nothing screams concern here - obviously check with your actual physician on that, though.
Your HDL is slightly low, but so is your total cholesterol - that keeps your ratio in check. Between that and your in-range triglycerides, your heart and coronary arteries are likely in great shape (at least based on the markers they tested)! If you want to bring that HDL up just a tad, just throw in some fish oil. I know you’ve been dieting and not drinking, so be proud of these numbers - we Westerners struggle with these.
Your A1C is below reference range for this test (I think? The impressions aren’t very detailed), which is what you want here. Prediabetes sneaks up on folks heading into middle age, so lower is better on this one and you’re there.
This is a pretty standard annual physical panel. Knowing your surgical history and chief complaints, I am a little surprised why there was no hormone testing. I’d think they’d do a testosterone/ estrogen panel and a thyroid panel. Here they took basic health markers that any patient would expect to see drawn (plus a celiac test - is that a normal precautionary draw in the UK?) I think you’ll want a hormone panel drawn. It also apparently takes a fortnight (I used it!) for you to get results, so start now!
@pettersson please check me for how far I got out of my lane above; my feelings aren’t hurt if you cross out everything I wrote. Patient has a history of testiculectomy (cancer); recent complaints are fatigue and irritability.
Quick reply for now, they did test thyroid function and test levels (I rang to check) but I they didn’t print them for me.
I’ll have to go back and get them at some point but won’t be able to for a week!
Hi @rugby_lifting! I hope you don’t mind me hanging on here? Thanks for the invite @TrainForPain!
In general I agree with your interpretation of the shown test results - though if I were the physician I would check a Cystatine C test which is more reliable re kidney function, especially on creatine ingesting lifters. Just to rule out any minor kidney insufficiency.
What’s missing here re tiredness/fatigue is a blood panel, vitamin B12, folic acid and iron levels. Not very common with iron deficiency in males, but considering previous illness - worth checking out. As I understand thyroid and hormone panel are screened for, which is also indicated here, in my opinion.
Other major questions: Normal diet? Any medication? Mental factors/stress? Sleep? Is your belly/colon working properly (considering they took transglutaminase antibodies)?
Please do share the thyroid and hormone testing.
You are fully welcome here thank you.
It will be a week before I get the test and thyroid results back and then I’ll post them.
Diet is mixed, I have lots of veg and fats etc I eat lots of veg, eggs, meat, rice or potatoes. Very mixed and not changed to change how I feel but I have been on a deficit (not sure if the two coincide or not) but it’s only like 500cal with the odd maintenance week in there. I’m down from 106kg to 100kg in about 3 months so nothing dramatic.
Stress levels are higher I guess. It’s been a hard year really and I work in a super stressful job (but am changing that).
Bowel movements etc all normal.
After my operation I felt fine for the first month or so but after then just so fatigued (I’m sleeping like a log every night) and sex drive is minimal.
The doctor said my test levels were ‘right in the middle of the bell curve’ but I’ll see why that means when I get my results.
They’ve referred me back to the urologist and high is good because my GP isn’t great to be honest.
Shit, I meant to respond to this yesterday.
I know mostly stuff about Test, Estrogen, SHBG - that kind of stuff, but your Hemoglobin A1C levels are a bit concerning.
Are you diabetic? Were these labs taken fasted for at least 12 hours?
Not diabetic and not fasted either, probably eaten around 2-3 hours before hand.
In this case, I don’t think these tests show anything TBH. If they had shown:
- Testosterone, total
- Testosterone, bioavailable
- Testosterone, free
- Estradiol (sensitive assay)
- Steroid Hormone Binding Globulin
- Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH)
- Luteinizing Hormone (LH)
- Dihydrotestosterone (DHT)
- Complete Blood Count (CBC)
- Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA)
- Blood Chemistry Panel
- Metabolic Panel
Then there might be something to go off, but much of this isn’t here.
If you wanted to read up on some stuff regarding TRT:

Great point. I assumed fasted (never assume!)
Even so, maybe I’m misreading - I just see they tested him below the lab range?
I don’t believe A1C values when not fasted mean much of anything, but I could be wrong. I thought it measured blood sugar, which would have a very different level if fasted vs unfasted.
I agree with you 100%. I’m asking where I’m misreading the test though. I assumed fasted, but still read it as testing below range
HbA1c is an important indicator of long-term glycemic control with the ability to reflect the cumulative glycemic history of the preceding two to three months.
The test can be taken any time of the day, and there is no need to be fasted.
To be honest, you can also test blood glucose not fasted, which in my opinion makes for a great “provocation” in case someone is presumably borderline diabetic - which if elevated or close to cut-off may motivate further investigation with fasted blood glucose (for proper diagnostics).
As far as I understood the printout, an exact value of hba1c was not shown - but the text in bold stated a “normal for patient” result. This is a bit odd, since you can make a better evaluation with an exact value.
Do you care about the composition/ timing of the last meal when interpreting non-fasted results?
Absolutely, but a blood glucose value above 6.5 would make me suspicious about glucose intolerance under any circumstance. Above 7.0 non-fasted pre-diabetic. Bear in mind this is a gray area, and the health care system here (in Sweden) only follow patients with diagnosed diabetes regularly. Also, stress may interfere with the evaluation (raises blood glucose). In order to work preventive you need to raise/meet suspicions.
Another factor to keep in mind, is that capillary blood sugar tests may have their bias, and should merely be considered a guideline of what the blood sugar actually is. All in all an individual assessment. I’m sorry if this seems vague. Medicine is NOT an exact science, contrary to many beliefs. I guess that’s why we have doctors to assess. Unf doctors can be of many calibers, which in itself presents a problem. I will stop here.
That context is super helpful!
@rugby_lifting this is stuff is very interesting to me. Let me know if you’d rather I move it to my log
