Congrats on that squat!!!
Hey Alexus Awesome on the squat I can only imagine how excited you were/are!! how long did it take you? Not that it matters just wondered so i have some sort of time line.
Yea Im going to “play” around with Oly to see what i think.
Congrats again ![]()
Bird - you could hang from a chin-up bar, yeah. i used the dip bar then the roman chair because i’m not capable of hanging from the chin-up bar for very long. especially when i need to really focus on holding my arms in my sockets.
front squats are good, yeah. much easier to hit a deeper bottom position. you might have trouble with your restricted ankle dorsiflexion, though, since your knees will need to come forwards a little more than you are used to. olympic shoes will probably help quite a lot, or stand your heels on some small plates to lift your heels about an inch. if you feel like you are about to pass out from the bar choking you then you are doing it right! elbows up! you might need to work on your wrist flexibility for the rack position, too…
masch - nice to hear from ya! yes, i so need to focus on looking up with the pull. i’ve also heard that the body follows the head but i’d forgotten. will try and remember this for next time!
minimal - looking to make the move in about three weeks. turns out the oly place with coaching that i found is more of a commuting distance away… but there is another gym (a ‘powerhouse’ chain) that is more focused on powerlifting and does some oly lifting and strongman type stuff that is very close to things indeed. so looks like that will be my gym. i’ve emailed them in the hope they have a women’s oly bar… but i’m certainly not holding my breath :-/
thanks for the congrats on my squat ![]()
upscale - i’ve read in a couple places that a bodyweight back squat should be doable in about a year. it has taken me more like two years of serious training to get this, though. admittedly most of my squatting efforts have been focused on front squat rather than back squat. my front squat max is only 45kg. i was very surprised indeed that i got this much out of my back squat.
i yelled like i’ve never yelled before in order to get it up, though. it bloody stopped moving and i swear the only way i could have got it started again was by scaring the living crap out of it. nobody said any anything… but i think people gave me a bit of a wider berth after that. probably grateful that i don’t ask for them to spot me lolz.
totally wrecked today so having the day off. got myself a big ass pizza as a bit of a reward and delighting in its disgusting greasiness. getting a bit sick of chickens…
i figure i’ll be good for repping the yellows now (50kg). i’m so very happy indeed… because the thing is… front squatting is hard for me since i lose leverage because i can’t bring my knees forwards enough to get my hips properly under the bar. with low bar back squats i have no excuse, though. since the shins are supposed to be upright i have no excuse other than sucking at this training business for having a crappy back squat.
i mean, i know i still have a crappy back squat lolz. but at least it isn’t truely disgraceful anymore. i must be doing at least something right ![]()
Hey Lexy! Great job on your squat PR.
Oh hell yeah for the squat! I’m close to 60kg now myself, but of course I weigh 70 so it’s not quite the same. I’m going to be chasing you, young lady!
yay!!! Happy for you…now keep going!!

congrats on your meet Debra!
If they don’t have a women’s oly bar, I think a little persistance in this instance might pay off for you. Just flutter your eyes and flex your muscle when you speak to the manager. Or sometimes people can be reasonable.
YES! Great job on the squat! So glad to see great things happening in here. Keep on killin it, mama!
Oh and big ass pizza?! nommmmmm

Thanks!
I took the video down but hopefully Alexus was able to see it.
Lexie nice work!!!
good work on your squat PR
Instead of chalk why don’t you get a nice volunteer to stand in front of the bar like this
Ah I tried to append the minute/seconds, TNation doesn’t handle that I guess, so skip toward 1min & 20seconds
Congrats on the Squat Pr!!!
yelling and big ass pizza for the win.
Hi Sugar! Just sayin’ hello. Goals there for the new log are looking good.
Oh, and you mentioned hanging without doing the leg raise part to do some spinal decompression. I’ve been doing some of that to try to gradually stretch out the scar tissue from my ab surgery. But enoough of my rehabin’ talk. Keep killing it Lex.
Great work on the squat. It’s such a high to accomplish something like that, isn’t it? Wish you had a video of it!
thanks everyone ![]()
and thanks for posting the vid debra, it really made my day. your form ‘breaks down’ a lot better than mine. you simply power them whereas i pause then throw from the hip and then corkscrew the squat up something awful. you are lifting some nice weights, too. i hear what you are saying about it being really hard to lift on demand for a comp rather than taking your own time with warm-ups and PR’s during training. glad to hear you have done a couple comps, though. hope you will continue to give us progress updates!
TRAINING
My lumbar spine has been feeling pretty achy since Monday’s squats. Probably a combo of that and work shifts. Have been going a bit easy since I couldn’t really get a tight bottom position for catches / squats. It is feeling a lot better today, though. Had 3 attempts at 40kg and I haven’t got close to that in months (snatch).
Planning my move…
Really fed up with work here (in particular). Bitchy gossip fest, basically, and I try and keep out of it, keep my head down, and get on with things as much as possible. So now they get together and poke fun at me. Oh joy. I can’t wait to get the hell out of here… I don’t cope with people poking fun… Lot better than I used to be but still get the social anxiety / paranoia thing going on… Messes with my head a lot.
Was hoping to fly in 2 weeks - but things are looking like they might get delayed for a few days… Feeling quite anxious to go…
Bit scared about starting a new life…
But work here is killing me.

Keep your head up, pretty lady. You are a strong woman.
Ugh hate bitchy gossip anything. Who needs other people’s made up drama. You’ll soon be out of there, its normal to feel some apprehension about moving, just think of all the new possibilities that will be opening to you. I’m kinda jealous.
I’m sure the change will be great for you. Transitions are always really stressful though. hang in there.
Hey shorty,
Tonight I ate a whole pizza and I had thought of you. ![]()
Too bad your not moving to the west. I could show you around.
I think I might be moving town after the new year, so I feel your anxiety. Although I think a change of scenary etc etc would be a good thing for mind and body.
And dont worry about the bitching and gossiping. Bitches be crazy.
