Well I want to say his face is hurting from getting tornado kicked, but really it’s more just like a slight reddening of the ribs.
Man I leave you guys alone in my log for a day and come back to this! No productive suggestions for a journal name and just old dude spam and abuse!
Great work, couldn’t have done better myself.
Love Futurama!
Serious life deload - finished work for the year that took a bit to wrap things up, at the same time got our first placement, who is very “new” - completely forgot how much this age flip your life upside down. Anyway nearly 2 weeks out and I have a terrible habit when I’m not lifting of not eating much protein, double whammy of negatives. Think that I mostly got away with it, despite my own efforts!
Quick intro back into lifting:
Gs1:
Squat: bar, 60, 80kg X 5, 100, 120, 140kg X 3
Cable crunch: 40kg X 10 X 6 sets
Cable curls: 40kg X 10 X 6 sets
Gs2:
Bench: 60, 70, 80kg X 5, 90, 100kg X 3
Alt dB curl: 12.5kg X 10 X 5 sets
Ab roll: 7 X 3 sets (back not feeling great at this point - felt a slight ache yesterday after manhandling my mum’s Christmas pressi from my dad up a narrow stair set - a massive treadmill - fun times).
Was intending to hit deads and ohp as well as a super set for an easy triple, but insane sleep deprivation coupled with very poor nutrition I ran out of steam and motivation, despite the very low requirements of the session, plus I was mindful of leaving the Mrs alone with our 2 and the baby. It’s fine I’ll fit the ohp and deads in as a separate day.
Glad to see you’re back!
Great stuff. Now to look forward to a relaxing holidays with your family. I’d say that’s a good reward for a final push of hard work.
Thanks Anna, might still be slightly sporadic for a week or two, but hoping to get most of the work done!
Thanks @Koestrizer definitely looking forward to that relaxing Christmas time! Which makes me realise that I didn’t reply to a message in your journal, sorry about that, wasn’t ignoring you (or offended by your lack of joy for Christmas haha) - just slipped my mind. Looking like things are going well for you at the moment?
Just doing ome catch up on your work outs.
160kgx11 - very impressive. What are your 20201 goals? I mean all over? Any big numbers you want to hit?
Thanks Carl, I was happy with it (would have been happy with 10, interesting how the mind plays such a big part of lifting I reckon if I knew I was at 10 and trying to squeeze out an 11th I would have stopped, ignorance is bliss…and extra reps!)
Big goals for 2020 - just one overarching goal 250kg deadlift. 50kg in one year, which is massive for me because my deadlift move at glacial speed. I’m hoping that by making it main goal for the year I’ll be able to hit it, even if that means sacrifice in the other lifts, because it will be that sole goal it won’t matter.
Other goals next priority is arms goal - 1+ inch (they’ve stay at between 15.5-16 inch for years, despite large increases and decreases in weight) they’ve been neglected for years and it shows, I can no longer deny I want big guns haha.
After that it’s a reasonable level of conditioning, then something above 200kg on the squat (be interesting to see if deadlift focus drives squat numbers or stalls them, driving squats hasn’t had much of an impact on deads so might be neither) 140kg+ on bench and 80kg+ on OHP will see me fairly happy, if I hit the 250kg, if not I’ll be frustrated that I made minimal progress in my other lifts at the expense of a lackluster year on deads.
Also thinking of challenging myself to not be a 10 year old in a 30(ish) year olds body and eat minimum of 5 a day and protein with every meal - after that my inner 10 year old is free to indulge. If I can do that consistently for a year should have an impact.
How about you Carl, big goals for 2021?
Loads of them. I’m trying to separate them into end goals and tasks.
My end goal is to compete. So my events need to go up. My theory us most comps will have 2-3 of the following. So get great at these.
Log, yoke, farmers, dead lift, stones. Even if not - there is so much carry over I’m happy.
Goals would be:
120kg log - 1 rep
300kg yoke 20m return in under 75 seconds
125kg farmers walk 20m return in under 75 seconds
275kg (605lb) axle dead lift
150kg stone to platform.
Tasks would be the gym numbers that support those goals.
Squat to 250kg
Front squat to 200kg
Push press to 140kg
I’m not sure how much of this is will get. But dream big.
You crazy kids and your ambition.
I fall prey to this too, but I also slack off if I don’t have a specific rep target. What I do is set a rep target 1-2 more than my “real” target
All good mate, didn’t take it that way.
Well, let’s keep the negativity out of your log and say it depends on the frame of reference. Training is going pretty great though. I am also very much looking forward to a relaxing holiday time with my family.
Good to see you back man.
Good to see you back, hope you had a good Christmas and lockdown wasn’t too bad.
Still not back lifting properly yet, but hopefully today/tomorrow, little one goes in a couple of days so sleep should improve and the festivities are out of the way so might regain a bit of time!
Hope you guys had a good Christmas?
I had a real life cheat code for lockdown - fostering gave me an under 1 year old which meant I could form a support bubble with my parents and still do Boxing day (did Christmas day with them anyway so didn’t seem like any additional risk).
That’s breakfast today, I was going to eat something healthier but genuinely couldn’t find anything. My diet has literally consisted almost entirely of sugar and fat, and I’ve trained once in 3 weeks, definitely losing muscle and gaining fat I’m back down to 204 and fatter than when I started this journal #winning.
@anna_5588 You’re definitely cherry picking journal reading with your recent conditioning comment. Notice this, I am allowing myself to “slip” like this, because I am aware that having proper control means I don’t need to obsess, I’m not letting myself go or damaging my long term outlook, it will not end up as me at 40 and obese. I am in control because I can do this, and because when I need to I can switch gears and do that in a way that’s not obsessive.
Was going to train today, didn’t. Went to McDonald’s*, then ate an obscene amount of cheese and followed it up by smashing a load of chocolates.
*Our first fostering placement ended and this was to help our kids. As per the plan only a very short one this time, amazing experience and interesting to see how in just 2.5 weeks the little one became part of the family, be crazy hard when they’ve been here for 6+ months. Looking forward to the next one… After some sleep.
Will post transformation 2021 pic and plan tomorrow and actually do some training, will just re-run the last training cycle and hope I haven’t lost too much strength haha.
Late merry christmas/happy holidays to you bruv. How’d end of 2020 go? What’s the plans for 2021 look like? Squatting to depth mayb?
