I was probably having hundreds of calories per day of heavy whip. And no abs. lol
I had this exact situation with almonds. And then, with walnuts, I had an instance like this except it was bloody stool so that was cool.
Nuts are the baby of the plant. The plants don’t want you to eat their babies, so they’re loaded up with a lot of defenses, like lectins and oxalates. Like a toxic mold, frequent gradual exposure will eventually crest a threshold and then bad stuff happens. Some time spent detoxing will reset that threshold to a point, but I find it’s easier to reach it the more we do it.
That’s how those stories work about how “Oh I can’t eat that anymore”. We COULD eat that on occasion, filter out the toxin and move on, but when we expose ourselves too much, we built up too much.
Dude that’s fascinating! Thanks for sharing. Biology is amazing.
I have this problem, but lately I have been able to drink the San Francisco Coffee Company’s doughnut shop blend without any added cream or sugar. As QuadQueen posted, I like the sh!t I put in it. But the last week+ I have made a conscious effort to just drink black coffee for my pre-workout. If I am not paying attention I just automatically load my cup with the sh!t I like.
I like salt in black coffee. I’m not sure if that makes it no longer black coffee, but the saltiness seems to take away from the bitterness.
And @jdm135 always happy to discuss on that matter. It’s definitely a fascinating world to navigate. Check out the works of Dr. Bill Schindler sometime if you wanna go further down the rabbit hole.
6/18 Wednesday
Didn’t have it in me this morning, so I took a 1-hour walk and listened to podcasts.
Same day but a dew hours later:
Had the chance to try the Kroc Center (like a YMCA) which is 15 minutes from home. Nice gym, but amazingly crowded.
Have not touched a barbell in several weeks so I know I am going to be sore from this.
Leg press, five sets of eight.
Bench press, four sets of eight.
Strict press, three sets of eight.
Snatch, lightweight, a few.
Overhead squats, lightweight, a few.
Pullups, a few.
6/20/2025 Friday
MURPH
1 mile run
100 pullups
200 pushups
300 squats
1 mile run
All in about 60 minutes, as per below:
Juneteenth was a holiday at my day job, so I spent some time on side jobs but also got to take the family surfing at 9:00 AM. Super nice way to live.
Decided last night that today I would take a good shot at Murph, to which I was very very close before the vomiting crisis and wrist injury that took me down for weeks.
Woke up at 4:00, took a tums and drank a very mild (1/4-serving) preworkout.
Around 4:45 I took off for the 1 mile hill run to the park.
Then started the EMOM timer:
33 rounds EMOM: 3 pullups, 6 pushups, 9 squats.
Round 34 is 1, 2, and 3 of the above - giving 100, 200, 300 total.
I paused the timer twice, at minute 20 and at minute 30, to keep from throwing up.
The run back was surpisingly easy after all that.
Feeling pretty badass.
That’s outstanding work dude! What a great development from where you were. Way to get after it.
6/23/2025 Monday
Trying something new with the sandbag today.
100lb bag.
Carried down to park (~0.2 miles)
Each lap is 1/6 of a mile:
Run a lap
Carry a lap
Run a lap
Carry a lap
Run a lap
Carry a lap
That’s one mile, time was 15:00. I’m honestly surprised. That short of a time means very few drop/pickups and very short delays between laps. Could have gone longer, but would have been very hard to go faster.
Took a short walk from there and then carried bag back home (~0.2 mi)
I’ve signed up for another Spartan race on 8/17! Running with a friend. He’s in shape. This should be good. And it will mark 3 years in a row of doing a 10k spartan race every year.
I’m already “ready” for it but having it on the calendar will keep me motivated.
6/25/2025 Wednesday
Shifted the schedule around a late-morning trip to the Kroc center (YMCA equivalent, for those not following along).
This is basically my first time at a barbell in months, so don’t judge lol:
Deadlift 5x135, 3x5x225
Clean and Jerk - worked up to a few at 135lbs.
Snatch - worked up to a few at 95lbs.
Definitely out of the groove on all of the above!
And I hate working out at that time of day. Phone blowing up the whole time with pointless notifications, and my energy just isn’t right for training - I’m better off first thing in the morning, or maybe I could try afternoons.
But it’s better than not training, and I had early meetings, so.
6/27/2025 Friday
Hit the street at 4:40 AM:
1 mile run to park
10 rounds EMOM,
-3 pullups
-6 pushups
-9 squats
1.4 mile run to end of road
2.4 mile brisk walk back
Home around 5:55.
A healthy session, not breaking any boundaries.
15th wedding anniversary is tomorrow!
Congrats dude! We just celebrated 18 on our end. So happy for you both to have each other for so long.
That’s massive! Congratulations to you all as well!
Happy belated Anniversary! I hope you guys had a great day!
Happy Anniversary!
6/30/25 Monday
Late entry today. Started work at 4:30, then in thr afternoon I finally got to hike Koko Head with a friend. Its like a mile of steep ass stairs.
We celebrate our 15th this year also!
And a staggering 24 years together lol. How she puts up with me, will forever be a mystery
Congratulations!
Late entry for 7/2/2025 Wednesday
Started the morning with 5:00 AM video calls instead of a workout
But that’s OK, had plans to knock off early and go to the gym.
But first, storytime:
I have a pair of Adidas slippers - you know the ones, everyone wears them - they’re good for gym showers, or walking in and out of the gym without getting your lifting shoes dirty - but mine are like 7 years old, and the bottoms are SLICK. Many times I’ve nearly slipped and fell, and told myself I should get new ones…
I’m walking up to the gym. Briskly, as usual, in my slippers.
BOOM!!!
My feet fly forward, my metal water bottle is thrown aside, I land on my ass, back, and left wrist on the concrete.
When I get up I see that I had fallen right up against a giant yellow “CAUTION: Wet Floor” sign - with a little cartoon picture of a guy slipping just as I had.
So embarrassing.
Oh and the puddle I slipped in meant my ass was wet for the whole sesh
But my wrist was just recovering from a pretty bad injury during my AK trip a few weeks ago, making this especially bad timing. It HURTS, as the fall re-injured it the exact same way as before.
Deadlift:
5x135
5x225
3x5x245
Snatch:
Several. Wrist hurt BAD doing these. Worked up to a few at 115. Have definitely lost the form, but I think the wrist was more a limit than my ability to dive under the bar and stand up with it.
Clean and jerk:
Had to bail on these. Tried a rep at 115 and the wrist said “absolutely not”.
Overhead squats:
Pretty sure I kept 115 on there, did 3x3 OH squats.
Front squats:
A set of 9 or 10 (lost count), still with 115. Was down to one or two fingers each hand by the end of the set.
Shoulders:
BTN and strict press, mostly just with the bar. My shoulders have lost all their strength.
Seated, chest-supported, plate-loaded row:
3x10 or something like that, 2 plates per side.
Dumbbells:
Some biceps curls and Arnold presses, and a set or two of triceps extensions. This part would be more fun if the gym weren’t so damn crowded.
Afterward, my wrist hurt even worse and I realized I didn’t help matters by training with it injured. But it’s NBD - I can run and do pullups even with the injury, so that’s basically what I’ll do for a couple weeks.
