After The Flood: JDM135 Powersnatching In Paradise

No joke dude. It’s like Woody Allen said: 80% of success is showing up. You get up, you put in the effort, you get the results. As we get older, we have to do less and less to stand out among our peers, because they just give up more and more each day. You don’t even need to get BETTER: you just have to not get worse.

First, a weekend update:
Surfing session, two walks, and a lot of yard work including inclined mower pushing haha. Not a couch potato kind of weekend.

However, as I’ve mentioned before nighttime snacking is the bane of my physique and is the reason I don’t look like someone who trains like I do.

So Sunday I decided to go strict keto for a few days, at least through Thursday when we’re flying to AK to be with family. No doubt snacking will occur with the fam, but if I can just be a good boy for a few days it might make a difference and inspire me to stay more disciplined.

Today’s session:
1 mile treadmill run, under 8 minutes

8, 7, 6… 2, 1 pullups, superset with
1, 2, 3… 7, 8 front squats, 115lb, cleaning each set from floor.
Holy CRAP those took it out of me. The last 3 sets were tough.

3 long loaded carries, each with 140lbs (70lb kbs each hand).

1 mile slow run on treadmill.

So, again, bookending all work with mile runs, feels pretty badass.

I am excited for this development! Don’t be afraid to eat BIG when it’s meal time to curb the night time snacking.

4/9 Wednesday
A rare missed day.
It comes with the territory of having 2 jobs that early morning obligations will occasionally interfere. But, what I did this morning, was worth skipping a workout. If it pans out, ill update here in a couple weeks.

4/10 just a 2 mile hill walk early, early this morning.
No, I couldn’t have used that time for a more badass or enviable training sesh. It was what I needed, when I needed it.
Tonight at midnight, getting on a plane to Alaska to visit the in-laws. Going to be fun.
That means no training Friday either.
This whole week coming up is going to be chaos and that’s OK.
I’m doing fine.

Oh - I DID have the privelege of a Tuesday evening surfing session, which was actually a pretty solid workout on its own, so if I need “credits” I can bank that one to make up for a missed session yesty.

AND I swore off carbs for a few days, but I DID drink about 3oz of fruit smoothie at my wife’s insistence to “boost my immune system for the flight” and I feel great about that.
(She makes badass fruit and veggie + protein smoothies every morning, no fake stuff and no sugar added.)
But otherwise, still sticking to Keto at least until we get to AK.

I know the in-laws bring some drama. Hope you can find a way to thrive.

Thanks.
Someone jokingly used the term “out-laws” and I realized, in this family, my family are the Out-laws. The rest of them are all in-laws. It is pretty bizarre that we are the black sheep considering the quality of our life choices but hey. We don’t fit in with the rest of the herd.

Sprained my wrist last week, can’t do any upper body pushing with it, and don’t want to risk any pulling yet. Squat racks were all full the whole workout, so I opted for this instead:

1 mile run
3x20 GHR
3x10 GHR situps
Walking lunges “there and back”
1 mile run

Good enough.

Week of 4/14 update:
Hiked basically every day. Some of them were kinda flat, some of them were steep. None of them were the kind of physical challenge hike that my wife and I crave, but as you can see from the photos we had a good time.
The real purpose of the trip was my wife’s elderly, ailing grandmother. She’s going downhill fast. I’m glad we could go. It was an emotionally packed week.

Sprained my left wrist really bad, probably from slipping on ice and falling several times - something that can be fatal for the elderly, it seems, but I was hamming it up “falling” for the kids - maybe one too many times.

Stepped onto treadmill.
Stepped off treadmill.
That’s it.

Actually: Got out of bed twice in the middle of the night to deal with a dog who has diarrhea.
Second time, around 4:00, I just stayed up. Went to the gym at the usual time.
Had a little diarrhea on arrival, but NBD thought I - it’s not unusual.

Then I stepped onto the treadmill, and before a full minute elapsed - the moment I had to actually draw a deep breath - I started heaving. E-stopped the treadmill, booked it out to the parking lot, and started barfing.

Stayed outside and walked for about 20 minutes - discovered some pretty cool walking/running/hill-sprint areas out there - drank some water, brushed my teeth, showered and went to work.

I assume this diarrhea and vomiting is brought on by small amounts of gluten in some sushi I ate yesterday at a goodbye lunch.

And not due to deep anxiety about aforementioned “goodbye”.

Which bears a mention - I’ll give a better update soon.

If your dog is sick, it’s possible you may have a shared illness as well. Actually had that happen to me about 15 years back. I was laid out, and then the dog started throwing up, and my poor wife had to deal with us both.

Heal up dude!

4/25 Friday
Ran 2.3+ miles, then started barfing.
Walked the 2.3- miles back.
WTF.

This is a trend - I haven’t logged about barfing at the beach over the past couple months.

Dogs still having diarrhea, and today one of them tracked all over the floor causing hours of cleanup and multiple loads of laundry.

I am not sure a  was warranted. However, just a note hoping you and your pups get feeling better. :+1:

Saturday 4/26 quick update.
Had another health episode…
We’ve had a hard few days, today was nuts, driving back and forth all day for kid activities and no time for anything.
So wife and I treated ourselves to coffees.

They put dairy in hers despite her explaining the allergy (i had to ask the barista to pull out a bag of chocolate powder and read the ingredients- sure enough, milk - after it was made).

Mine was delicious but before i finished I got insanely hot and almost barfed. Felt better after some severe diarrhea about 20 minutes later.

Maybe gluten in the coffee. Maybe something else idk.

Also i think my left wrist is broken. Ill go get it checked out in the morning.

Sorry to hear about your allergies. Cross contamination in products happens. Along with that, your wrist as well. Here is to your health!

2.3 mile run
2.3 mile walk back
No barfing, also not pushing too hard on this.

Left wrist update:
Urgent Care doctor doesn’t see a fracture in my Xray, so I guess it’s just a bad sprain. Doesn’t make much difference WHAT it is, I guess, what I care about is when will it work again? Limited range of motion and severe pain in certain directions of use.
Also a very local pain when I press with my finger on a certain spot on the back side of my wrist. Exactly the spot labeled “Hamate” on this image.
