I’m in serious need of help from a computer geek, and possibly a psychologist.
The specific AdWare that’s killing me is plugged into Google, such that my clicking on a specific search result takes me to a different ad site (ie. I get hijacked). Only after the third click on the link does the real page actually open.
I have run Ad-Aware numerous times and the Windows Defender without success. I’ve also read this this type of AdWare is reinstalled the next time you boot up, despite the use of removal programs.
I can’t live like this anymore. Please help! I’ll give you candy!
I’m going to jump on board with a computer problem:
Download a porn video that is not a video. I haven’t noticed any ill effects, but I can’t delete it. The properties is blank when I pull it up, if I right click on it it doesn’t give me normal opions (no delete), just send to, play, open with, and a bunch of add to thinkgs. it is 660,697kb, no scans pick it up. How do i get rid of this thing?
David, go through the Google options section. If you use the Google Toolbar you probably are signed up for Google’s “advanced” options which are not “free”, Google has its own private “ware”. Go through the options and turn most of everything (unless you use/need it) off. Ad-Aware also has a good problem called Ad-Watch that blocks things on entry.

You will probably need to use regedit. If you don’t know how to use it, don’t try otherwise you can end up really “blowing” Windows up.
David, buddy, i know exactly what you are talking about with the google hijacking. the process to get rid of it is a little lengthy but it’s doable. i don’t know how good you are with computers, but basically, if you follow along with the instructions on this page (link is below), you will get rid of that google hijacker.
i know, the same thing happened to me two weeks ago and this is how i got rid of it.
so it depends on what specifically is going on with your computer otherwise i would just tell you to do what i did. but, just like writing diets for people, it’s specific to the client.
trust me, if you follow along with the instructions on that page you’ll be free of that google hijacker.

Try Lavasoft Adaware too. I know those two don’t always get it, so maybe you’ll have to get third adaware and cough up some cash.
My favorite paid program is Spyware Doctor. I’ve had a lot of success with it finding adaware those two don’t. I would say the two freebies get about 60% of adaware and the Doctor maybe gets additional 35%. Yeah the programs overlap some but helpful. Nothings perfect.
You can also try SpyBlaster to help prevent getting spyware and adaware in the first place.
I’ve downloaded every program I can find to scan, detect, trash, remove, incinerate, destroy, and crush this thing, but it’s still there. Nothing detects it, it doesn’t seem to be running on as a process on the Task Manager, no ill effects. Just the inability to erase it.
It won’t play either, and when I first tried to open it WMP treated it as an MP3 instead of the video clip it says it is.

Install and Run spybot.
Then install either Mozilla Firefox or the Opera Browser. Use exclusively on unknown web sites.
I’m sure you need to update Microsoft Internet Explorer. Do it now.
Use Microsoft Internet Explorer only on sites that you know are safe.
Never install software if you’re not absolutely sure that it is safe. I’m thinking of screensavers, addons for msn messenger etc.
After that, get Firefox http://www.getfirefox.com and use that entirely insted of Internet Explorer.
There is a few major things in Firefox that can stop this from ever happening again (ActiveX is one major one).

Try alt control delete and ending a significant ammount of the things you see under processes (not the ones that say System, local service or network service though) and then delete it.
Or, restart the computer and hold F8 to start in safe mode, and then try this and delete it again.

Do you get a “File in use” warning that doesn’t let you delete the thing? That’s most likely windows trying to grab a frame from that “video” to make a thumbnail. And since there is no frame in there to make it from it’s parsing and parsing and parsing through the file making it “in use”
So what do you do? You disable this movie thumbnail thing:
Copy the lines below this (I’ll make them italic)
Put them in a text file and then rename that file to *.reg
Right click the file and pick Install, say Yes to possible prompts
Sometimes you need to restart, but you might just be able to delete it right away

Thanks for typing all of that, but I don’t get a “file in use” warning.
If I highlight it and choose delet form the menu at the top of the folder the file is in, NOTHING happens.
If I drag it to the trashcan and let it go, it jumps back to the folder it was in.
download their virus protection thingy. It kicks ass and has fixed my computer a few times when SpyBot and Norton were left scracthing their heads.
I had a virus called “vundo” on my computer, it was hell to fix.

I gotta through my hat in on this one, ewido kicks ass and has a free trial.
I generally will run several scans with different products (adaware, microsoft defender, spybot) on a computer having problems. When all else fails I use ewido (to cheap to buy it), if I had to purchase a product this would be it.

Smae problem here, I fixed it using this program:
Just download this program and use it to erase that file. I had the problem file in my “Limewire Download” folder, and ended up having to delete the whole folder to get rid of the file.
Basically Hijackthis is useful (as mentioned) as is spybot and ad-aware. I had endless probs with virus and spyware whilst using Norton, now I use Sunbelt Kerio Firewall, AVG Free and Windows Defender and seems every boy and his dog uses these three at least.
When I have encountered major probs before the others won’t fix have used a prog called ‘Trojanhunter’, think the link is
This has a 30 day trial and was the only thing that got rid of some crap I had on my old system.
USe firefox as mentioned and thunderbird (instead of outlook express) if you need a calender like Outlook use Sunbird. Mozilla also do a Mac browser now called Camino or something.
Having said that am building a new system with an Athlon 64 and Ubuntu Linux.
Keep automatic updates switched on and make sure the malicious spyware updates are installed.
