Hehe, this is the “get a life” forum ![]()
I’m glad you can easily figure this out for yourself… I’ve figured out some of what I can do for myself as well, but I was raised thinking there’s nothing wrong in asking others for advice. I’ll admit right off the bat that I’m not the smartest man in the world. Luckily, there are others smarter than me that are kind enough to give me advice, and for that I’m grateful.
I studied abroad in China for a summer and you’re right in that it’s quite similar. However, I’m no expert in Chinese culture. I believe it’s a little more ingrained in the culture here (korea) than anywhere else I’ve been. For example, there will be one or two “meetings” a year where teachers all go out and drink alcohol and eat food together. After they’re liquored up, it’s OK to talk business because in a drunken state, Koreans believe they can trust and understand the other person so it’s OK to speak honestly and do business. Otherwise, you basically don’t do business and can’t be trusted. Anyways, I had some gripes that needed to be taken care of, so I gave in and had a few shots of soju (the Korean equivalent of Japanese sake). It won’t kill me and needed to be done, but I’d really like to find a way out of business drinking other than just putting up with any gripes I may have (and keep the job). Perhaps I just want too many things at once.
Thanks again everyone for all the comments and criticism. I love the community here ![]()
