Advice for Someone 6'7"

Kid: Just because someone played basketball doesn’t mean you should believe everything he says. I played football in hs and college but that doesn’t qualify me to teach same – that’s why I mentioned TC’s article.
I do however think the heavy partials will do more for you than the bodybuilding methods these guys love. Coming up out of a stance is fairly similar to a jump in BB and the heavy partials helped me.
Best of luck!!

Does anyone still buy this argument, that an athlete need not squat deeper than the deepest position required of him by his sport? I thought we were past this…

Strength training for an athlete should NOT entail mimicking sport movements under a load. It is not beneficial to a boxer to throw punches with weight in his hands, or for a quarterback to throw a five pound football etc…

NBAstar: get stronger all over, especially the P-chain, as has been mentioned, understand that mass is controlled through diet, not training protocol, and DO NOT go for gimmicky crap like peartmath is espousing…this will not help you! Again, like I said, the most important thing is that you keep track of everything, and soon enough you will know what kind of training works for you and what doesn’t.

Best of luck

I think this program could be really helpful:

Training-program-for-high-
school-athletes.htm

It’s from the elitefts website, and although its designed for field athletes I think it could be very beneficial for a basketball player too. It trains several strenth qualities, is easy to modify and the scheduling is very flexible. Your basketball workouts would probably take the place of the GPP sessions. I have been using it for some time now (modified to include more pulling and less direct triceps work) and the athletic benefits have been great. Hope this helps

Peartmath, sounds like the argument’s against YOU my man. Doesn’t sound like your “heavy partials” idea is worth the web space its been assigned to.

I’m done arguing about TC’s article. If anyone wants to read it, here’s a link

You’re the one who can’t keep your aggression at bay! If you want anyone to pay attention to what you’ve got to say, do it without using four letter words. There’s a free tip that’ll hopefully help you out in life. Oh yeah, and squats aren’t exclusively a bodybuilding movement, there’s another.

One’s diet dictates whether or not they’ll gain mass.

Thanks Ramo for responding to this already.

Take a moment and look at yourself, that’s all I gotta say.

FutureNbaStar, I hope you recognize the similarities between you and myself. I had a very successful high school basketball career and had the opportunity to continue in college but made the decision to play baseball instead. If my word alone is not enough, take a look at where the majority of information is leading you in this forum. Most the advice is excellent and corelates. I know for one Gladiator is on his way overseas to play pro basketball and Ramo clearly knows his shit as well.
