Adjusting Body Need Less Calories?

Yea a strange and stupid question I know but I remember hearing on discovery channel how Navy Seals can survive on very little food same goes for Arabs in the middle east.

Reason I ask is because I eat an insane amount of food I found out today.

I’m 5’10 165lb around 10.9BF last I checked which was about a month ago.

I just started a bulking up phase want to get to 180 work myself into shape then go for 200 as a final goal.

I am guilty of not really totaling up my calories just cut carbs when I lost BF and increase carbs when I want to gain weight. Today I felt like totaling my calorie intake and I was shocked I ate 5997 calories and I think i’m slightly undervaluing it as I wasn’t sure if I got the right calories for the steak I had.

Point is it’s a lot of food all healthy stuff but I would love to get my body to get more with less of a food intake if possible. Prehaps it’s not as much as I think it is but it seems high to me.

sometimes you just have to be patient, and keep adding 5lbs to the bar every week.

its a grind

Just b/c Seal team 6 can go a weak w/o a lot of food/calories dosent mean that they like it or that you should. Here is a sanerio for you(I also graduated from Ranger school when I was in the Army so I know)

Lets say you have 2 MRE’s (thats Meals Ready to Eat) They contain about 2000 Calories so you could eat one a day and in theory be fine. But we only have 2 so we got to make them last. Your average MRE contains a main course say Chilli’Mac or Jambalaya. Then they have a side like say 2 small peaces of really dry bread and a cheese spread or Beans. Then there is a disert say A Cookie or a peace of pound cake, then lastly Coffee or some kind of “shake”.

Ok so That is your basic MRE now lets make that last for 5 days. To do that you have to ration them and supplement them with things you would find out in the wild like berrys, plants maybe youll get lucky and kill a snake. That is what it means for a Seal, Ranger or Delta Force to be abel to go with very little calories. Life and Death.

So it not a why of life or a diet that they go by they need to eat just like the rest of us. Whats your age? I could be wrong but you sound a little young.(not saying you are just the scence im getting) Untill I got to about 22 was eating 5000+ calories a day and never got over 175. Its realy hard for younger ppl namely 16-19 to gain weight b/c of high metabolism and what I would assume is an active life style. So I wouldnt worry to much about 5000 calories if you only 168lb and you goal is 200. EAT…EAT…EAT and try not to out think yourself

I understand what you just said. o.O

Sarps

I totally get it being a means for survival but if I could train my body to do better on a little less it would save me some money and not to meantion time. I wasn’t asking to live on berries and an occasional piece of meat just a 1000 or so less calories. That is the main reason I asked. I’m 27 my metabolism shouldn’t be as bad as when I was 16

What’s an average day for you in regards to diet? Times, amounts, foods…

Then really the only thing you have to do is eat smaller portions. Youll be hungy as hell all the time till you get use to it but you wont be abel to grow either youll never get to 200lb. Beleave me I understand wanting to save money. Thats why i let my girl friend do all the shoping =) But really, I know that 5000 seams like a lot but f its all good stuff and not junk then it not as bad as it seems…except in the wallet

The point he’s getting at is that he believes there is a way to slow down your metabolism so that he actually needs less food to grow on.

He needs to understand that short of getting a tumor on his thyroid this isn’t going to happen…at least not in a favorable way.

If you really are maintaining 10-11% BF on 6 grand a day you are not going to grow much on less and may need even a bit more. That’s a pretty turbocharged metabolism for a 5’10 guy unless you walk 10 miles a day. I’m 4 inches taller than you and 70 plus pounds heavier. I maintain a pinchable inch or so on my stomach eating 5 grand and some change.

You want to SLOW DOWN ur metabolism!? Man… why? Id rather have a fast metabolism ANY DAY. Yea i can live off 1000-1500, but FOOD IS GOOOD. Ur lucky ur maintaning calories are so high!
