Adderall/Amphetamines

I am currently taking Vyvanse as a prescribed drug. It is made my the same company as adderall and is very similar in its chemical composition. I believe it contains a significant amount of dextroamphetamine much like adderall. It is a drug that is prescribed to people to help treat the symptoms of ADD/ADHD. I definitely feel that it helps with the intensity of my workout and appetite suppression but I am curious if anyone has any information on the detrimental effects of such drugs while cutting/dieting/exercising?

There was a thread about this in the steroid forum a while back. I believe some of the vets said that prolonged use led to catabolism, although I can’t remember why sorry.

Other than maybe keeling over?

I would closely monitor my heart rate when on hardcore stimulants and working out with real intensity.

I also use this. I know its catabolic and I believe it raises cortisol.

When you take it all the blood goes to your head, so its probably not a good idea to take before a work out. Its extended release.

The apatite suppression can be a good/bad thing on how you look at it. I have to FORCE feed my self, although I don’t take it regularly and when I do take it its 50 or 70mg.

I don’t know your history but if you have been on adderall for a few years then it might be a different story. Good way to asses you tolerance is when you take it does yours dick shrink to about an inch? If not then you body is fairly well adjusted to it.

I take it at least 6 hours before I workout. For me it HIGHLY suppresses my apatite, Yesterday for example I took one and started reading for Biochem when I realized shit, I should eat something 5 hours had gone by.

Thanks for the help. My body seems to be relatively well adjusted to it. I have been taking it during the school year since I was a freshman in high school and as of now I am finishing my sophomore year in college. Is there any way to fight off the catabolic effects other than protein shakes and other solid nutrition practices?

The only way to combat drug induced catabolism significantly is drug induced anabolism.

AKA Steroids.

That said, I took Ritalin when I was younger for ADD.

When I was about 17 I decided I wasn’t going to take that crap anymore.

It is very difficult to concentrate at tims, and it has certainly made schooling a huge pain, but I feel it was the best choice I ever made in my life thus far.

Lets be honest, 90% of the people prescribed such drugs could function normally without them, it just takes alot more work and will power.

Yep! I always found that while you might feel like you are getting a good workout (due to euphoria) after taking some amphetamine, you really are not. Why? When I looked at the weights I was moving, I noticed it was always just slightly less than what I could move when not on the adderall.

Was this due to not eating? Not likely as I only used adderall sparingly during undergrad as a study aid when I could get some. Hence, most of my experience is just from a single day when I would pop a pill, study for a while and then workout later on. Somehow the weight just didn’t move as much and after enough trials I realized working out and amphetamines just don’t mix.

You could try out piracetam as a non-catabolic/non-appetite destroying option to help you focus/study without the sides of amphetamines.
