Add Carbs or Protein?

Just curious. From an outside observer, it looks like you’re avoiding fatty meat. Didn’t know if that was just a preference. My wife is similar: prefers lean.

Mines the same. I’ve never seen anyone make a chicken breast more lean!!!:joy:
She seems to find a way!!!

It’s honestly a beautiful relationship: I get all her fat trimmings, haha. She’s also learned to let me have access to whatever is leftover in the pan.

Same!!!

Do saturated fats matter?

Regarding what? If you combine fats and carbs = poor outcomes. On their own saturated fats are a natural thing and aren’t to be feared

They absolutely do

Too many people try to avoid them.

Got it. Cuz all the foods I’m looking to add for a fat source have some saturated fat. I won’t avoid the ones with Sat fat then!

I’m going to start with shifting these macros by adding more fat, taking away some protein. I’ll do this before adding more daily calories. I want to see how this macro shift fares first.

Reduce carbs not proteins

I am still staying above 200g of protein. Not taking away too much.

Why do you say this in this case?

I would agree. OP is testing if dietary fat increase helps hormones build muscle. To conduct this experiment you would want to keep the muscle building calorie constant. Then it is easier to see if the addition of fats made a difference.

Most people can reduce some carbohydrates without losing strength or muscle. It isn’t certain that the protein intake is a sufficient surplus that can be reduced without affecting muscle building.

If 50% of a person’s calories are carbohydrates, there is plenty of carbohydrates that can be replaced with fat or protein, IMO.

If I’m going down 36g/day in protein will that be a huge negative affect in this case?

I won’t go below 250g/ day of protein.

Please explain. Why take the chance?

I never took a chance of whether I was getting sufficient protein. I believed that I could only digest 40 grams of protein at any one sitting. I ate at least 40 grams of protein 6 times a day. I felt confident that I was digesting 240 grams of protein a day.

I am a firm believer in touching all the bases. Take no chances of missing an opportunity to build more muscle.

Are you willing to take the risk?

To go down in protein by 36 and still be above 250g per day?

Honestly not sure. The two carb sources I have are white rice I eat for supper and oatmeal I eat for breakfast. I honestly don’t want to get rid of them. A lot of my other carbs come from Apples, bananas and veggies. I don’t know how to sub those out.

You are kidding, aren’t you?

Eat 75% of your rice, 90% of your oatmeal, half the banana, 50% of your apple, and all the fibrous veggies.

As a 187lb athlete, 250g is already in excess of what you need. There’s nothing wrong with eating that much if that’s what you like to eat, but when it comes at the expense of other nutrients it can be an issue. You definitely have room to drop it.

All that said, I also favor dropping the carbs vs the protein.
