btw almost forgot!! Watched a bunch of NFL mix vids, but then a TON of Ray Lewis vids. This video in particular got me crazy amp’d up for tonight’s session. Triggered more emotion (got a few tears bubbling ain’t going to lie). Wondered at the time whether or not that triggered emotion would help or hurt tonight’s session, looks like it helped. Running with someone also helped, but I feel like I was going to PR tonight regardless of that.
One thing that resonates alot is… “what would you do today, if you weren’t guaranteed any sunlight tomorrow”. ie, what would you do on the track today, if tomorrow wasn’t guaranteed? I mean you’d go all out probably… Get those PR’s then ride off into the sunset (nuclear fallout). I’ve thought about stuff like that before, it definitely helps when you’re trying to lock in and give everything in the session in front of you.
So, told some people i’d try to make it to this 12 mile “fun run” today @ 6:15 AM… Apparently ~150 people are going wtf? Pace groups every 30s from 7:00 to 12:00, nuts.
Anyway, after last night’s training (PR’s) and not being able to sleep, turned my alarm off & canceled it in my head. Ended up waking up at 5:00 AM on the dot, no alarm… Figured i’d force myself to go out there. Only 4 hours sleep but, I feel decent and I didn’t do a ton of volume last night anyway.
Just hoping I don’t cramp up and such lol. If I do, i’ll just walk it out and pick it back up again. allgood.
This could be an “ugly run” or “fun run”, no idea yet. lmao.
Thanks for the info. Ive got a Samsung Gear Fit 2 that I’ve been using, but have been manually timing my runs because I didn’t trust the GPS data. Perhaps I’ll give it another try. I had heard/read that the GPS info is not accurate, so I kind of wrote it off. I’m OCD when it comes to process and accurate results.
That’s freaking awesome all the data you have tracked.
Will post in a bit. but that was an incredible experience. Hung with the fast group, 12 miles @ 6:50 pace avg, with 6:30+6:20 for the last two. Basically ~5-6 guys and 1 girl. The girl running with us was so unbelievably impressive. She is legit. The guy who lead the group is a 5:5X for 13.1 guy, so I think ~1:18 or so half marathon. Incredible fitness & really knows how to lead a group. Easy conversations with him at ~6:50.
I mean that’s my first long run ever with a group of people. I’ve never done that before. I felt really great, mostly comfortable, but still not easy… I mean that’s a long time to be running sub 7 pace. I have a new respect for ~7 and 6:XX’s tbh… It just felt very fast, mile after mile at those paces. When normally I can do ~7 or 6:XX for a warmup like it’s nothing … but to stack them for so long, was very interesting.
Breathing was mostly quiet, foot strike was very quiet … I’m in better shape than I think. HEH.
That was faster than expected … which is always good Was suppose to be 7:00 pace, but the weather was great, “course” was great, and the group was beast.
As you can see, only one 7:00 split. Definitely a sub 1:30:00 effort (1:28:XX/1:29:XX) if we had kept running another 1.1. But they all stopped at 12 (which was the goal) and I just kept going by myself, slowed it way down. I figured i’d still be sub 1:30:00, which was obviously wrong, but I thought I could hit that slow 1.1 and still be under 1:30… lol. Don’t care though. If I run a half marathon race, that could be low 1:2X:XX’s. I’ve been planning on doing a few half’s for a while now. Not really going to change it up or modify my training much at all, I feel like I can focus on 1 mile and below, race 5k’s, and then run a half whenever… I just have that fitness. I might add back my long run OR do more of those long sessions like I did last week. Either way, I feel like I can just go into a race and drop 6:XX’s for sure, which can make you competitive for top 3 in lots of half’s around here. When 5:3X guys show up, that’s a different story.
This deserves its own post. Only one girl stayed with us (the fastest group). She ran so good, it was incredibly impressive. I was mirin` to say the least. Apparently she’s a sub3 marathoner and low 1:2X half marathoner. Also she’s also big into “fitness”, lifting, and “physique”. So this woman is like, easily t-vixen/t-nation level. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s already on her and lol’d at my 6’1 147 dunking thread. Her bicep is bigger than mine, and she’s much leaner. She’s legit.
I’m 99.9% certain she wouldn’t mind me posting some photos of her in this thread, especially given the context (mirin all day), and considering her IG is public and she takes tons of physique selfies. 8|
Also, there’s lots of women distance runners like this. Distance runners in general get a bad rep, especially women (“bony”, “no muscle”, “no physique”, “frail”, “no curves” etc). IMHO she absolutely demolishes those stereotypes.
Honestly, this post should get a sh*t ton of likes.
Yup! The “fun run” title turned out to be true haha. If it had just been 7:00 every split, it would not have been as fun as how this turned out. This turned out more like a progression run, slowly building speed as the miles piled on. There was lots of good convo & I observed alot from these runners. We just kept going slightly faster because pretty much everyone could handle it. I think only 2 people or so dropped off, but they didn’t seem to want to hang on - you could ask for the pace to slow a bit if you needed it. The lead guy pacing would also ask, are we good at this pace? Then the next 1km he’d pick it up and ask again etc. Towards the end you could hear people hurting a bit, but everyone was fine with pushing it. These were some dedicated folks, that’s for sure. Pretty much everyone in the group dominates/wins major distance events all over, so it was cool to run with them and hang so well/comfortably. I talked ALOT… lmfao. Asked lots of questions and such. Lead guy is a beast so he could respond no problem at whatever pace.
The weather was absolutely perfect. Lots of fog early on as the sun was rising… So the scenery was especially beautiful.
Turned out to be a perfect workout & lots of “motivation fuel” for the future.
That’s so cool. Kind like a moving seminar. You get similar vibes at some PL meets if you get to hang out with a good lifter. You can learn so much it’s not funny
Those are the best kind of athletes: ones who have made considerable progress and love to share what they’ve learned and help someone avoid mistakes they may have made etc.
In the context of running, that’s why i’m such a huge fan of Jake and Zane Robertson. Those guys are serious elites and absolutely love helping others, sharing knowledge, providing feedback etc.
Thanks alot man! Yea some of those PR’s, I need to look up the old values to see how much i’ve improved. I’ve been thinking about doing that across all of my distances, just maintain a table of all PR’s as they happen, so I can easily check the history.
So, after that 12 miler, (yesterday) I felt much better than expected. Still felt a little beat up, quads especially (soreness), calves (tightness). Tonight is supposed to be hard speed, calves are still a little tight but actually getting better: left one is more tight than right. Need to just be safe about it.
A masters track guy asked me if I want to go hit some 400’s today. Didn’t know what he was intending because he’s doing a 5k soon. So I said, i’d love to hit a sub60. He said: “yes I plan on doing 2 x 400m @ sub 60, and long jog cooldown”. LMAO Nice!! So, I might actually be able to hit a sub60 today if I can hang with him. He’s a sub60 400m guy (don’t know his exact number) and he hit 2:07 for 800m last year. So, he’s FAST. A 2:07 800m is blazing for someone who is 46 years old, afaik. @IronOne
I feel cautious of trying to hit a 59.x 400m, but then I keep thinking about the 63s 400m I hit on Saturday which was after my 1km PR - where I emptied the tank. So, a fresh 400m @ 59.x might be easier than i’m anticipating. Not sure though, going to be interesting.
If I could knock sub60 400m off the list before 2017, then i’ll make it 54.x for 2018. lmao.
Also, from a week or so ago, came out pretty cool. Took it after I was done with speed, and was just jogging around the track real light while dicking around on my phone for an hour or so. hah.
