Adarqui's Journal

Ah. Surprised there’s not something like Strava/Athlinks for those sports. I mean there could be one and I/we just don’t know about it. But, if there isn’t, sounds like someone could make a killing coding that out. lolol. For running sites though, the luxury is GPS data. That is the game changer. Your watch just uploads to the site and boom, data, stats, PR’s, challenges etc.

01/07/2018: complete rest

01/08/2018: two workouts:

  1. (4.3 mi total): my dad (70 years old, tennis player) wanted to try a 5k … lolol … 5k @ 44:10 … he was hurting for mile 3 :smiley: … lmfao
  2. (10.05 mi total): moderate speed with full jogging recovery: 3 x 1 mile @ {5:25, 5:32, 5:54 (lol)}, mixing in some strides at the end. Good first session back

Didn’t know how i’d run, but i’m happy with it. Legs felt pretty good, just lacked a bit of power. Also, my calves were really achy/tight, which slowed me down a bit for sure… Considerably probably. I did some “self massage” on them yesterday, and it just wrecked them.

Gearing myself up for a 2018 full of fun torture. I’m going to be hammering away mile after mile, or km after km, or maybe even a combo of both in a session. Occasionally transitioning into PR attempts for other distances etc. But really, you can’t “run from this” stuff. You really have to face it head on. I need to be able to hammer out sub5 mile & sub3 km, any day of the week, for multiple reps per session. The good news is I have like 358 days to grind… That’s alot of time.

Ideally, a session come June (2018) might look something like: 5 x 1 mile repeats @ 4:5X with ~3 minutes recovery. Stuff like that…

Come 2019 I need to be able to hit that for 10 reps etc.

Can’t hide from it. Must attack. 8|

Might do another track session tomorrow with a group of people at 5:45 AM in the morning. They are doing lots of ~6:0X pace stuff so, that could be a “light workout”. Then rest wednesday, then do some light hill running on Thursday, then a hard speed session spiked up on the track Friday morning, and finally participating in that 6 hour ultra relay on Sunday (lol).

peace!

01/09/2018: morning run: soft surface/hills (961ft): 6 miles light, 3 miles moderate mixed in, and one hard at the end (6:47) ::: running on mulch is AMAZING wtf?! so springy.

^^ hills. nice.

01/09/2018: workout: light walk: 12 miles total: 9 miles @ 15:XX (light), 3 miles @ 14:XX (moderate)

https://www.instagram.com/p/BdySCH7hAF7/

flower selfies… tehe. took those on my walk today. Kept having to dodge that flower at one spot in the walk … so on my 4th lap (~mile 10), decided to use it & experiment with it.

about to sleep at ~9:15 PM, to try and get to the track by 6 AM … runlife.

That LONG walk yesterday helped my legs quite a bit (AFAICT) … considerable recovery, but still sore unfortunately. All good though.

01/11/2018: morning moderate speed, quads sore: 15 miles total: 4 miles hard w/ 1 mile jog recovery mixed in @ {5:28, 5:29, 5:44, 6:17}

good session. breaking in my new spikes (NB LD5000v5’s). feel really good. actually feel a little big, which is funny considering I thought they felt small before actually running in them.

solid stuff. need to eventually turn that into several sub5’s. that’s the goal. already some nice improvement over last session. Also good considering my quads were toast - didn’t think i’d even be able to do the workout, could feel them tightening up during the warmup, but then it became manageable.

Friday/Saturday = REST!

Sunday = Ultra Marathon Relay (6 hour event … wtf? am I crazy)

man. it’s annoying. I’ve wanted to update so many times but, once I fail to update a workouts from way back, I need to update those first before adding my new ones. It’s dumb. I’m dumb.

wanted to actually update everything yesterday…

will do today, or i’ll quit the internet.

Ok. About to bump the fu*k out of my log :expressionless:

01/14/2018:

Vista View Ultra 360 Relay: Our team got men’s #1 (44 laps? @ 1.25 mi per lap)! Women’s team got #1 also! 11 x 1.25 miles. 7th overall on horse trail (5:54 min/mi pace) on the hilly path - on my last lap - nice.

Stepped on a rock real hard in the first lap, on a downhill in a concrete gutter. Hurt pretty bad when walking, but not much when running - thankfully. The “pain of running” helped drown it out, and there was lots of soft mulch which also helped. Was really worried about it initially. About to ice it.

Apparently these were my splits, pace via running calculator:

11 x 1.25 mile splits:

7:37 00:24:08 // 6:05 min/mi
7:31 00:56:54 // 6:00 min/mi
7:39 01:28:34 // 6:07 min/mi
7:31 02:00:17 // 6:00 min/mi
7:30 02:32:22 // 5:55 min/mi
7:35 03:04:33 // 6:03 min/mi
7:45 03:36:57 // 6:12 min/mi
7:50 04:09:36 // 6:15 min/mi
7:31 04:42:13 // 6:00 min/mi
7:52 05:15:38 // 6:17 min/mi
7:15 05:48:10 // 5:47 min/mi

2 x sub6, 5 x very close to sub6. 9.25 miles @ ~6 with recovery in between. pretty cool.

the very last split, times:

Me going nuts:

I wore my glasses the entire time, to more easily see rocks & such.

Btw. I was “the fastest” person on the course that day “by far”. That was pretty cool to learn. Second fastest was on of my teammates.

workout: extremely light recovery walk: 10 miles @ ~3 hours

you know i’m dead when I walk this slow - bottom of right foot = sore, hips = sore, calves = sore, forearms = sore, left tricep = sore, quads/glutes/hamstrings surprisingly haven’t been sore at all ha

01/17/2018:

workout: morning moderate speed: Track Session:

body healed up overnight

6 x 1 mile w/ 3 min jog rest @ {6:03, 6:00, 5:47, 6:25, 5:57, 7:34 lol}
6 x ~200+ @ {41.6, 38.5, 38.6, 36.1, 37.3, 34.4}
~7 mile cooldown @ ~9-10:XX min/mi

workout: light walk: legs wrecked (quads/hamstrings = toast):

1 mile w/u, 5 miles @ 14:{3-4}X pace

Worked hard on posture

Breaking in new long distance training shoes (Brooks Hyperion) - 2x the weight of my racing flats (6.4oz), I like em

(As of 02/10/2018, have barely worn them … I like them but, i’ve just been putting in all of my run miles in my trusted racing flats)

01/19/2018:

workout: moderate to hard recovery walk

legs a bit better

7 miles = 2 moderate @ 14:XX + 5 slightly hard @ 13:3X-13:5X

01/20/2018:

morning long (Lydiard) tempo run with:

10 miles @ 6:5X-6:2X (6:48 avg?) - pushed the last two miles @ {6:35, 6:28}

Andrea beat me to 10 with a 6:19 final mile - beastmode.

really good run as expected. great group. tons of wind, great temperature, great location/course, 1000’s of nice people, one crazy cyclist who yelled at me - lol.

funny story:

so on my very last mile, the one i’m hitting the hardest… i’m in the bike lane going “into traffic” … anyway, tons of cyclists pass me, no problem, i mean i’m on the very left most-part, tons of room for them. anyway, this d-bag coming at me starts yelling at me “MOVE! MOVE ONTO THE SIDEWALK!!” so the only thing I could think of was to look him dead in the eyes and say “fuck you dude” … lmfao. So he spazzed out as he passed me, yelling “FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUU!!!”. One guy in my group further back, gave him a nice smile & a wave, lmfao.

so, probably passed say, 1000 people, he was the only asshole. some people are insane. we are so polite too, tons of “good morning’s” etc… cycling riding past us, saying “good job!”, “morning”, us saying the same or giving them thumbs up etc.

just interesting how stuff unfolds.

anyway… very solid workout. lots of good people to train with, enjoying it.

also, this was on a strip of road/sidewalk right on the beach. :headbang:

peace!!
