Slept at my brother’s house last night, so we just did a mixed bag of stuff this morning with his 44 pound kettlebell.

Got up to 405 and just kinda kept doing singles because I felt good. Really a nice feeling to make 405 a comfortable weight for any given workout, and kinda has lifted my perception of the ceiling for now…perhaps a 500 deadlift by my wedding / 30th birthday is a genuine possibility.

Kinda sped through warmups because the deadlift area was occupied when I got there, so I got a late start. I decided to tack on a fifth single at 405 since I felt good. Also: I change gimmicks like once a month, but for now the current plan is to work my way from “5 singles at 405” up to “10 singles at 405” over the next few weeks, take a few days off from “heavy” deadlifts and then try a new 1RM (hopefully in the 450 range).

Eleven singles with 405. Real strong. I definitely probably from a bit of a cheat meal, though - a little extra carbing up…but it was worth it. Then followed by matching my 1-arm press PR. All around, things progressing nicely. My fiancée is coming for a visit tonight, so we will be doing a hot yoga class tomorrow, which is just as well - I’ve been going heavy a lot and could use a day of active recovery.

Made it with the right hand, missed it with the left. Just wasn’t really “on” today - the presses at 90 and 95 felt a little tougher than they did over the weekend. Might want to start working this again a little more, as I’d like to make pressing a 100 with each arm a rock-solid, anytime-I-want-it lift.

Kinda surprised. I haven’t done a regular bench press in a long time and wasn’t really sure how this would go, so 5x225 is pretty good considering the context.

I since a Bench Press Challenge in the future with you guys!! Max Rep Bench Press in 5 minutes?!? Keep up the good work. I’ve been giving those 100 pound dumbbells at the gym the stalker eye to see if I could strict press that weight.

I like the sound of that haha! Maybe max reps bodyweight bench press??

Ehhh, I don’t know…I did the bench press today kind of on a lark (honestly, if I had hit the 100 pound dumbbell cleanly with both hands, I probably wouldn’t even have bothered with it). Not really planning to start training it regularly. Right now a 500-pound deadlift is really what I’m after; everything else is just kind of side work until I hit that.

Fair enough! Unfortunately I’m a long way from being able to attempt a lower body challenge.

EDIT: @jblues85 would you be up for a bodyweight bench challenge?

@furo. I’m down for that at some point in the very near future!! I’m hovering between 230-235 at 6’4" right now. For ease of plates I will go with 235.

Big day in the gym!! A nice solid deadlift single at 435 and four straight successful one-arm presses of the 100 pound dumbbell (only the very last one turning into a grinder). Days like this are really satisfying. Going to relax for the rest of the day and get a nice thorough stretch at hot yoga class tomorrow.
