Wow, deadlifting 4 days in a row is pretty crazy! Aren’t you sore as hell?

And thus concludes the “deadlift every day for a week” experiment. Once I realized that the hotel we were staying in had a barbell and plates suitable for deadlifting, I looked up a couple of articles on this and did something like a Pavel-designed deadlift singles program (intended to be done 5 days a week for up to 6 weeks).
I didn’t get that sore, actually, because the volume was quite low (look back at the workouts, I basically just worked up to a pair of singles at about 85-90% of my current 1RM).
I just wanted to give this a shot because of the convenience - it’s not often that I’ll be staying in a hotel where all I have to do to deadlift is just walk downstairs (although one day 3-5 years from now when my fiancée and I are married and buy a house, we’ll definitely have a garage or basement gym suitable for deadlifting).
I love minimalist programs, so it’s not at all out of the question that I’ll do this again in the future, maybe even this summer if I can get to the gym often enough. When I get a little stronger I would really like to make a basic workout of doing a pair of singles at each of the following (225, 275, 315, 365, and 405) plus a high-rep finishing set at 315.
Friday 3/11
Cybex Shoulder Press 5 sets
Cybex Lat Pulldown 5 sets
Cybex Seated Row 5 sets
Barbell Curl 5 sets
Saturday 3/12
DB Shoulder Raises
DB Curls
Lat Pulldowns
BB Curls
Muscle Clean-N-Press
10 x 1 x 125
This hotel (different than the Sun-Thu hotel) has a small barbell with about 100 pounds of small plates, so this was the best I could do for a heavy-ish lift.

So there is a caveat - I did this workout with straps. I cut my hand yesterday and thought my grip would be a little dodgy so I decided to strap up. But still…3x405 is awesome for me. Felt really smooth, too.

Tree / Log Moving
A friend texted me in the morning & said that his family was clearing a hillside behind their house, with a bunch of downed trees that they needed to chainsaw apart and move out. Would I be interested in helping move a bunch of logs? Why yes, that sounds like a perfect alternative workout.

So the plan for today was just nailing 10 good singles at 315, but I really wanted to see if I could handle a jump straight from 315 to 405, so I tacked a bonus on at the end. No sweat. This is good because I’d really like 405 to become a comfortable, I-can-pull-this-any-time weight.

Really like this. Lots of good, clean singles at 315 for speed & technique, finishing with a solid single at 405.
Nice work man! Have you heard of the Tactical Strength Challenge? I probably shouldn’t link anything here, but if you search it it’ll come right up. Competition based on the deadlift, pull-ups and kettlebell snatches for time. Seems like it would fit perfectly with your training.
furo: yes, I read the StrongFirst website regularly and agree that my training is most aligned with that school of thought (heavily influenced by Dan John, as well). I’ve dallied around with the idea of entering a TSC, maybe in the next year or two. I’m trying to approach this as a long-haul thing…now that I’m consistently hitting 405 for deadlifts, I’d like to build my max towards 500…perhaps once I’ve hit that I will try to maintain the max strength and work for improvement on the KB snatch. I’m finding that I do better when I stay focused on just one or two goals at a time!
