I am very excited to see what tomorrow brings
hopefully some good beer reviews! I’m going to write all the ones from your log I want to try and then going shopping this weekend for them. I’ll let you know what I think too if I’m sober enough to login and do so. The honey wine has me interested so I might have to look into that as well.
Not really, no. The total volume is low, and I’m pretty well adapted to it by now. I have cut back a little on the frequency of late (I wanted to add a little more cardio, which is why we bought the spinning bike) but I still plan to squat and/or deadlift 3-4 days per week.
Until my wife delivers our baby, at which point I accept that I may have to reduce the frequency to something like 3 lifting and 1 cardio day per week. Cross that bridge in a few months, though.
The ones I would definitely try (if you can find them, depends what store you go into):
Dragon’s Milk Bourbon Barrel Stout
Victory Brewing Java Cask Stout
Troegs “Troegenator” Doublebock
Southern Tier Pumking (this is only available seasonally, you’ll have to wait for the fall to get this)
Jack’s Hard Cider (if you’re into hard cider)
I don’t drink much pilsner or lager, so if you’re more into the lighter side of beer, I’m somewhat less helpful. I tend to go with these heavy, dark, high-alcohol, you-only-need-one beers!
HAHAHA! I like the darker ones too just have to drink a little slower. That helped a lot and I took a screen shot so I can just look at that when I go. There is a very good store that has unique alcohol so hopefully they will or I could teach you some good new ones too ![]()
Babies sleep a lot and I think you’ll be able to knock out your no nonsense sessions during nap time. You might be surprised about how much time you have to do your thing since you train at home. I used to take the baby monitor to the garage.
@Frank_C I’ve always been told you sleep when the baby sleeps because there is never enough sleep in the beginning. Did you sleep much?
My wife didn’t even attempt to breastfeed so we shared the middle of the night feedings. My daughter was awesome and slept great. I’d stay up a little later and feed her at 11. We’d take turns getting up to feed her at 2 am. And then my wife would get up at 6 and feed her and start the day. She also started sleeping through the night around the eight week mark.
It worked great. She ate every three hours.
My son was a pain in the ass! He woke us up twice a night for a year. We finally decreased the amount in his bottle to ween him off of the night feedings. He only thought he was hungry but he didn’t need it.
Sharing the duties allowed is to get manageable sleep. We settled into a routine after about two weeks. Once you hit that point you can plan accordingly.
Thursday 3/29
Spinning Bike (20 Minutes)
Beverage: Jack’s Fireside Seasonal Hard Cider. This was only okay. A little too much fake-cinnamon flavored for me; their original flavor is much better - a perfectly light, crisp, inoffensive drinkin’ cider.

I am just itching to set a deadlift PR, but really trying to be smart about it & go for it on the right day.
Tonight’s beer (@countrygirl2016, I told you it’d be back): Troegs Nugget Nectar (7.5% ABV) from Troegs Brewing in Hershey, PA. This is a departure from my usual creamy stout, a hoppy ale, but it is quite good.
Troegs is also an awesome independent brewery that I would strongly encourage anyone passing through central PA take the chance to visit.
Saturday 3/31
Bikram Yoga (90 Minutes)
I am so looking forward to going back to PA and checking out the brewery’s you talk about! I’m going on my beer run tonight and will hopefully find the good stuff

Tonight’s beer was a Wexford Irish Cream Ale (5% ABV). Not much flavor to this, if I’m being honest. It was mild and inoffensive on the palate - certainly not unpleasant - but just didn’t have much flavor and tasted kind of watery.

Tonight’s beer: Troegenator Doublebock (8.2% ABV) from Troeg’s Independent Brewing in Hershey, PA. This is a really solid beer. Smooth, got a little booziness but not as powerful as the heaviest stouts I drink.
I found your favorite - Dragon’s Milk Stout - at my local Total Wines & More store. Brought home a four-pack. Strong sasperilla flavor with some carmel notes. Beers with ABV over 10 can often leave an ammonia smell, but this definitely didn’t. Generally I prefer my stouts to be chocolaty/mocha-ey, because drinking alcoholic chocolate shakes is awesome, but this one left me with a really cheerful buzz.
Glad you enjoyed it! Dragon’s Milk is definitely rich and not for everyone, but I find it creamy, boozy, and just delicious (albeit also the sort of thing I have to nurse for an hour and only drink one per night…which is kind of the point!)
Agree re: chocolate/mocha-flavored stouts. The one thing I will say is that I’ve started to sour a little bit on some “coffee” stout and porters - a few are good but some just taste like bitter black coffee, and I’m a little tired of those. A good smooth coffee stout is fine, but if it tastes like sour coffee that’s been out too long, not as much a fan.

All done beltless tonight. Pretty solid, I don’t often go over 500 without a belt.
Tonight’s beer: Victory Brewing Java Cask Bourbon Barrel Stout (14.3% ABV). This is the closest thing I’ve found to Dragon’s Milk. Sooooo good.
Friday 4/6
Spinning Bike (20 Minutes)
Tonight’s beverage was an easy-drinking Jack’s Original Hard Cider from Biglerville,
PA.
