Yes, I would be described as “cheap” by most of my friends, but I prefer “fiscally responsible”. I drive on '03 truck and our ‘new’ car (inherited from my wife’s grandfather) is an '07! Our first vehicle with a working A/C!
Most of my mismatched plates are off of used buy/sell sites and I have several homemade pieces of equipment as well. This isn’t because I can’t afford new equipment, but I’d rather pay down my absurdly large mortgage first! haha
I’m glad no offense was taken, sometimes the written word can get away from me and misinterpreted, but if you met me in person you would know to take very little of my shenanigans seriously. “Shit disturber” is a word often used to describe me.
You definitely have the gym essentials covered, now it’s on to the WANTS. I was going through the same justification protocol as you, but I was using the weight room as money saved on 2x gym memberships. We were paying $55/month each when living in town, so I wasn’t able to buy any equipment that wasn’t justified by the savings that the weight room provided.
I dream about this sometimes.
We are getting ready to move onto some beautiful property, so that’s a start!
Haha, mine are all second hand. Actually, I just got a pair of Costco jeans and they are my favourite! They have a little bit of stretch in the denim so I can actually buy a pair that fits my waist AND my junk in the trunk.
Sounds like you should change your name from littlesleeper
Your junk is in the trunk?!?
BAHAHA… anyways I’m happy to hear I’m not the only cheap person on here. I spend but find areas where I can cut and save the money!! Especially for things like the beer I’ve been learning about
Guys’ trip for a group weekend before one of my friends gets married next month. I have never been skiing before (ever), so I’m just cruising the bunny slopes for fun and hoping not to wreck myself.
Much better today than yesterday, but still not confident enough to do anything more than bunny slopes. Still, today I was much more confident and moved much better.
@furo: I did have you in mind when I thought of this. No offense, haha, but it was a useful cautionary tale. My wife would have killed me if I came home with an injury.
Also, some notably good beers this weekend (we’re in Breckenridge, which has some very good breweries). I’ve had a Breckenridge Irish Stout, Breckenridge Vanilla Porter, and currently working on a Roaring Forks IPA.
Traveling home. I’m actually taking off work tomorrow as well since I’ll be getting home late tonight, strategically planned to get our flooring installation done Monday.
Likely will sleep in, putz around til our flooring contractor gets here & does the work, do the laundry, catch up on emails, etc, then do whatever I can handle for back squats in the afternoon & make dinner.
Made it home from ski trip in one piece, just did some easy squats. Fives at 315 are pretty easy now, so I may do a little “Easy Strength” approach and see if I can nudge that up a few pounds over the next 2 months before my wife pops out a kid, at which point I’ll be in maintenance mode for awhile, I think.
Ha! Tonight I had a glass of Chardonnay with dinner. Needed to switch it up - lots of beer (for me, anyway) over the weekend on our guys’ trip. Probably back to the good stuff tomorrow night
Tonight’s Beverage: sorry to disappoint the fans, but I’m off beer for ONE more day in favor of a locally made blackberry and black currant honey wine (mead) from Kingview Cellars. This stuff is a bit of an acquired taste - my wife hates it (way too sweet for her) but she’s out for rehearsal tonight so I decided to have a glass. Don’t worry @countrygirl2016, I picked up a couple new beers at the store today as well so the usual beer entry will be back tomorrow!
