It’s really a great show for someone to relax. The people are all so nice and friendly (not like American “reality shows” lol) and the food always looks great.
I watch so many Netflix shows that are not American and enjoy them much better!!
Sunday 3/4
Sandbag “Front Lifts”
20x1 @ 200 pounds
Whew. Inspired by the Arnold, I decided that I was ready to up the weight and add a fourth 50-pound bag of sand, so the bag is now likely ~210 per @T3hPwnisher’s note on sandbag weight. Going to need a few workouts to get used to handling this weight before I can really “carry” it well so today was all about the pick and hoisting it to chest level.
Monday 3/5
Back Squat
5x135
5x165
5x195
5x225
5x255
2x285
1x315*
*so I’ve been throwing a lot at myself lately with a >90% deadlift on Thursday, adding fives in the squat and then going heavy on sandbag yesterday and it may have caught up to me a little tonight. My right knee felt tweaky during warmup and then on the first rep at 315 my back felt really tight, so I shut it down.
This is why we need that spinning bike to arrive, lol. Twice a week easy non-impact cardio sessions to break a sweat while I can restore a little bit between squats, deadlifts and Strongman stuff.
man that was so smooth
Tuesday 3/6
Sandbag “Front Lifts”
20x1 @ 200 pounds (EMOM)
Kept it simple tonight. Spin bike should be here tomorrow or the next day.
Thanks man.
I think I’m good for something in the low to mid 600’s now. Just need to finish a good solid training cycle where I incorporate a few more squats and some sandbag work before testing a new max.
I binge-watched that show. It’s great for exactly the reasons you wrote. I’m very upset that they don’t have more seasons available on Netflix.
We watched the first three seasons they made available on Netflix awhile ago (6 months? A year?) and recently we got to watch the fourth season they added more recently, which made us decide to rewatch the first three.
Surprisingly good rewatchability. If it’s been a few months it’s fun to watch again, we remember just enough that it’s fun to see a second time.
Wednesday 3/7
Front Squat
5x135
5x150
5x165
5x180
5x195
2x225
2x255
Stopped on the way home from work and picked up our spinning bike at the FedEx store. Got home late so I just banged out a few front squats tonight but tomorrow I’ll try to put it together and give it a spin (pun intended).
I didn’t even think to check whether they added a new season!
I almost face-planted.
Dad jokes on point, you have my approval.
Thursday 3/8
Spinning Bike (20 Minutes)
This should be a real boon for me. Lifting will remain my primary focus but it’s going to be a great option for 1-2 days per week of active recovery, good way to get a little easy conditioning, and should be a saving grace once we have the little one at home (put baby in swing / rocker thingy, hop on bike, hope baby stays asleep for at least 20 minutes).
I used to take the baby monitor to the garage while I did sessions on the Bowflex. It wasn’t what I expected in terms of strength training but it was good for lighter sessions during my daughter’s naps.
In the mornings now, given its a good day I bring the monitor down and lift (very quietly). Oh how things change. I cannot deadlift during the week in the mornings anymore bc our garage gym is directly under our boy’s room.
Friday 3/9
Sandbag “Front Lifts”
10x1 @ 200 pounds (EMOM)
Back Squat
2x135
2x165
2x195
2x225
2x255
2x285
5x315
Had been kind of annoyed all week that Monday’s back tightness kept me from really getting a full squat workout in, so tonight after 10 sandbag lifts I decided to change course and see if I could make up for that. Stuck with doubles throughout the warmup and then blasted through a pretty easy set of 5 at 315.
Tonight’s drink, switching away from beer for a day, is a nice glass of Merlot. We’re part of this thing that’s not really a wine “club” but works sort of the same way. We pay a fixed monthly fee and then when there’s enough money in our “account” we can buy a mixed case of 12 bottles (your pick) from an assortment of independent winemakers. Our wine drinking has been slow lately with, uh, pregnancy (hence the increased beer consumption!) but tonight I was just feeling a glass of red.
I need to join that club lol
…your wife wasn’t a beer drinker? I hope she is doing well with the pregnancy so far!!
It’s called “Naked Wines” - 40 bucks a month. Depending on how expensive your tastes are (the bottles range from $8 or so on upwards) you can buy a case every 3-4 months.
She’s more of a wine / whiskey drinker than beer (for a long while, I was too). Now I mix it up a little more; a beer on weeknights, a glass of wine or two on weekends. I love bourbon but that’s more of a special-occasion (weddings with an open bar, anyone?)
Awesome, thank you for letting me know and I’ll look into it! I love wine but didn’t have a bottle chilled so I just had a couple cans of Bush Light ![]()
