Have been completely neglecting my overhead carry work recently so I might have to take this kind of challenge up. I seem to be big on this kind of workout at the minute so will give it a shot and let you know. Did you do it bottoms up or normal?

Also: congratulations on the whole “life” thing and all, but have pity on those of us on the forums and pop your head in now and then.

dagill: I will take breaks from my fabulous life to post here more often.

I did the waiter walks with a normal grip. Bottoms-up? If have to use a kiddie weight for that.

I’m going to make sure I do that as my morning workout at least once a week, as I feel I Gould be doing more loaded carries for conditioning work. My strength in lifting the 88 is quite good at the moment but I feel my conditioning is wanting; and this should be a good remedy.

Friday 7/3 (AM)

Hot Yoga Class (75 Minutes)

Off for the holiday so I slept in and went to yoga with my GF. Different yoga studio than usual - they have a 7-day-for -7-dollars intro special so we decided to hit it for a couple of classes over the long weekend. I liked it quite a bit, although somewhat different from my usual Bikram yoga.

I started doing loaded carries again in earnest about 2 months ago and the effect is incredible, I feel like my bodies running a few degrees hotter for the rest of the day. Definitely starting to need a bit of variety though and waiters walks might be just the thing, especially as I’m trying to rebuild my pressing muscles. I’ll give these a try when work calms down.

Saturday 7/4

KB Clean-N-Press 2x88
Lat Pulldown 6x150
Chest Press 6x150
KB Snatch 10x44
KB Swing 20x53

Four rounds, plus a lap around the block carrying my 44-pound KB. My GF also did an assortment of KB stuff and then joined me in a lap of assorted carries (suitcase, rack position, and a stretch of waiter walks) with a 26-pounder.

Sunday 7/5 (AM)

Hot Yoga Class (75 Minutes)

Sunday 7/5 (PM)

Chest Press 6x110, 120, …, 170

Those ~1/2 mile Waiter Walks seem pretty freakin’ brutal!! When I was doing those with my 55#, going 50 yards was hard enough. Something that may add to your challenge could be having a Waiter’s Walk time and then a Double Rack Position Walk time as well. My abs and upper back were toast when carrying my two 55# KBs for 100 yards for 5 sets. Glad to see you are still hitting hard with the Kettlebells.

I’ve sort of put Kettlebell Training for the most part on the back burner for a while and trying to increase my barbell lifts. Have you given anymore thought to a Kettlebell Competition? I know you and I discussed this several times at the beginning of the year but haven’t seen you mention it since then. Keep killing it buddy!!

Tuesday 7/7 (AM)

0.53-Mile Waiter Walk with 44-LB Kettlebell (12:58)

jblues: just to be clear, I’m not doing it as one continuous walk, haha. I’m cleaning and pressing the bell, going about 50 paces, switching hands, another 50 paces, etc (although by the end those are down to about 30 paces per hand). But yeah, it’s pretty brutal, seems like a really good conditioning piece.

I would consider adding more stuff - like double-rack walks - but the “logistics” (read: needing to carry the KB’s outside from my apartment and leave them sitting on the sidewalk/driveway) are problematic. Someday, when I buy a house (or a car, in which case I’ll consider driving my KB’s to a park), that will be on the menu, but for now it’s easier to take just one KB outside and walk around with it. Although, I’ve also considered taking both of my 44’s outside and trying to do a marathon farmer’s walk (carry the 44’s all the way around the block without putting them down).

Tuesday 7/7 (PM)

A1. KB Clean-N-Press 2x88
A2. Lat Pulldown 6x150
A3. Chest Press 6x150

Six rounds.

Wednesday 7/8 (AM)

0.53-Mile Farmer’s Walk with 2 x 44-LB Kettlebells (Drops: 11)

Ouch. The pain train left the station, and I was on it. Holy forearms, batman. I thought I would be able to make it all the way around my block with only a few drops. I had to put them down 11 times, meaning that I was averaging about 70-80 yards per carry. Which would be fine if I was carrying some real manly weights, but a pair of 44-pound KB’s? I expected more of myself. There’s a weakness to work on.

Wednesday 7/8 (PM)

A1. KB Snatch 20x44
A2. Lat Pulldown 6x140
A3. Chest Press 6x140, 6x150, 6x160, 6x170, 6x170

Five rounds.

Thursday 7/9 (AM)

0.53-Mile Loaded Carry with 88-LB Kettlebell

So this might have been a little more than I could chew. I thought I’d be able to handle just walking around with an 88-pounder in the rack position or suitcase position. I was wrong. I could barely get 20 strides at a time by the end. The 88 is really awkward to carry in the suitcase position because it’s so big that it actually drags against the side of my leg (believe it or not, I would almost rather be carrying two 88’s because then at least I would be balanced), and in the rack position (where I tried to do most of the carrying) it was still just freaking hard!

Thursday 7/9 (PM)

A1. KB Snatch 10x53
A2. Lat Pulldown 6x110, 120, 130, 140, 150, 150
A3. Chest Press 6x110, 120, 130, 140, 150, 160

Six rounds.

Friday 7/10 (AM)

0.53-Mile Farmer’s Walk with 2 x 44-LB Kettlebells (Drops: 10)

Managed to get around the block with one fewer drop this time. I tried to count off 100 steps each time before putting the bells down, and that worked pretty well. Need to keep working. Once I can do this easily, I may add a little distance (i.e. add an extra block, which will turn the 0.53 miles into about 0.75 miles)

Friday 7/10 (PM)

KB Clean-N-Press 48 x 1 x (2 x 44’s)

48 clean-and-presses (1 rep every 25 seconds for 20 minutes) with a pair of 44-pound kettlebells.

Saturday 7/11 (AM)

Hot Yoga Class (90 Minutes)

Saturday 7/11 (PM)

A1. Chest Press 6x110, 6x120, 6x130, 6x140, 6x150, 6x160, 6x170, 6x180, 6x190, 6x200
A2. Lat Pulldown 6x110, 6x120, 6x130, 6x140, 6x150, 6x150, 6x150, 6x150, 6x150, 6x150

My lower back was feeling a little tender all day - in retrospect, I probably should have added the loaded carries to my training somewhat more gradually - so for this evening’s workout, I decided to skip the usual KB section of my circuit and limit tonight’s workout to just simple pump work of chest press and lat pulldowns. Will go to yoga again tomorrow morning, hopefully back will be feeling better after that.

Sunday 7/12 (AM)

Bikram Yoga Class (90 Minutes)

Sunday 7/12 (PM)

A1. Chest Press 6x110, 6x120, 6x130, 6x140, 6x150, 6x160, 6x170, 6x180, 6x190, 6x200
A2. Lat Pulldown 6x110, 6x120, 6x130, 6x140, 6x150, 6x150, 6x150, 6x150, 6x150, 6x150

Monday 7/13 (AM)

A1. Chest Press 6x110, 6x120, 6x130, 6x140, 6x150, 6x160, 6x170, 6x180, 6x190, 6x200
A2. Lat Pulldown 6x110, 6x120, 6x130, 6x140, 6x150, 6x150, 6x150, 6x150, 6x150, 6x150

(I know, I know…I’ve done the same upper body workout several days in a row…just trying to get a little work in while my lower back heals for another day or two…)
