I was going to try the new Pho restaurant that opened yesterday but I found myself thinking that I should really go swing my kettlebell before ActivitiesGuy begins to wonder if I’ve given up on kettlebells. So that’s what I did after work today.

I will eat Pho later this week. The kettlebell is also coming home from the gym now that relentless snow and bitter cold are no longer a problem. Outdoor kettlebellery season is finally here!

Ha! There is nothing wrong with a good Pho restaurant.

In fact, I would generally encourage the process of (kettlebell) followed by (gorging on delicious Pho), but I understand that perhaps it would have been difficult to arrange logistically.

Outdoor kettlebellery is the best. Of late, I have enjoyed taking my KB up the the apartment building roof for some of my workouts. I’ll post a pic that I took on Monday night.

Rooftop deck of my apartment building. There’s also a grill over to the right, out of view. Now that it’s summer grilling season, I’ll probably start bringing meat up here and tossing it on the grill while I work out, so I can savor the smell of cooking meat as my motivation.

Nice rooftop view. Working out in fresh air is much more pleasant than an anti-septic scented gym.

I sometimes catch a glimpse of a Bald Eagle grabbing a fish out of the canal as I’m working out.

That’s an awesome view AG! And that’s incredible LiftingStrumpet, where are you based? I’d love to train outside more.

What are your goals at the moment ActivitiesGuy? Would you be keen for another challenge in due course? Hope you’re well brother!

LiftingStrumpet: it’s a very nice view. The rooftop deck is only open from spring through fall, but over the summer I eat dinner up there a few times a week. I’ve done occasional KB workouts up there in the past, when the KB was kind of a side-interest alongside running and other fitness pursuits, but this will be my first summer as full-fledged KB enthusiast, so I’ll probably be working out up there a few nights a week as well.

Furo: I’m glad to see that you started a new log! I would be glad to stage another friendly challenge so long as it works toward my goals. Presently, my two goals are 1) pass the RKC snatch test - 100 reps with a 53-pounder in 5 minutes - and 2) press a 106 pounder (which I do not have yet, haha). I think this gives a nice mix of conditioning with the timed snatch test ad brute strength with the heavy press.

Anything you like that works in that general direction, I’m game. For example, if you have a 20 kg and 28 kg bell but no 24 kg, we can do a snatch challenge with the 20 kg, since that will train me for the RKC snatch test anyway. Or suggest your own idea and I’ll see if it suits me well enough.

I also will be doing a bit more traditional “cardio” than I’ve been of late, which had been exclusively short sessions on my spinning bike for the last six-plus months. Now that it’s nice out I’ll probably start going for a long bike ride once or twice a week (side note: I was part of a fairly competitive distance running group in Pittsburgh for several years, and saw many of them this weekend during festivities for the Pittsburgh Marathon. While I don’t plan to return to full-blown marathon training, I would like to spend some time with those folks again, and since many of them are avid cyclists I’ll probably shoot for at least one long bike ride with someone from the group each week).

KB Swing 4 x 10 x 88
KB Clean-N-Press 32 x 1 x 88

Like everyone else, jealous of the view for kettlebell workouts although I don’t think I could do some swings, snatches, or jerks with the smell of a big fat juicy steak on the grill!! I would end up slobbering all over my kettlebells. Looks like you are making lunch meat of your 88 now!! Keep up the good work!

Yes, I’m very lucky. I live in south Florida in a pretty rural area. We have about a dozen nesting pairs of Bald Eagles in about a 20 mile radius.

Those are some great goals bud. I’m not really training in that direction myself: dips, pull-ups and cardio are my current focus (not that I’ve started on the cardio yet lol). But we should work out something in the future!

Hot Yoga Class (60 Minutes)

Up in Traverse Ciry, MI today - my gf will be attending a yoga teacher training up here later this summer, and we wanted to come take a class and meet the woman who will be her instructor. Not a bad class, but a little shorter and a little lower intensity than I’m used to with my typical Bikram class. Still did me some good, though.

Sunday 5/10

SUPER COOL WORKOUT!

So I was at my GF’s gym up here in Michigan, warming up without a real solid idea of what I wanted to do for my workout, when I saw it: a Strongman log! Nestled in a back corner behind the leg press machine, probably untouched for months. I dragged it out to the middle of the floor and had some fun. It was labeled 145 pounds, and that felt about right.

Log Clean-N-Press

20 x 1 x 145

Bench Press (Supersetted during the singles with 145)

Hot and hilly ride. Very taxing. I can ride forever on flat ground but the steep hills we did on this ride were an absolute killer.
