About to Take the ACE Certification Test...

…anyone take it?

I’m going to take it in a week or so. Not expecting anything remotely difficult, it’s just that from what I’ve heard about these tests their answers might not exactly be the most up to date, and I’ll probably have to swallow my pride and tell them what they want to hear on it. Also, I’d like to know if anyone has anything to say about the electronic versus written tests.

peace

I did the electronic test, it was worth the extra 50 bucks to get results right away. the first portion of it was pretty damn easy if you know your anatomy and use common sense on the liability/professional roles part, but I fucked up the simulation part I didn’t really get what they wanted at first (I still passed overall) my only advice on the simulation is to read ALL the possible options before you check appropriate ones since there’s usually a few that overlap and are all reasonable, so if you read from top to bottom you might not pick the right one. I know that doesn’t make much sense now but if you remember it while you’re taking it it will make sense

How complex is the anatomy? Just muscle groups?

Or does it go deep enough into ligament nomenclature and naming ridiculous muscles like the gastronemius

Haha, thought you were serious about gastroc’s for a second. I second the question though.

Mostly what I want to know is what kind of training questions are there going to be? Like if they ask what an effective protocol is for size and and options are between like “doing low weight/high rep machine circuits with minimal rest” and “20 rep squats and a gallon of milk”, I’m going to want to choose the real world option (squats in this case).

Also what kind of cardio questions are there?

Same here! Hopefully wward see’s this, because, I’ll probably get an ACE Cert. when I’m old enough too.

The website is really vague for ACE Certifications

I did the ACE and ISSA certs in 2004.

The ACE’s best question/fail: During a Cardio Jazz class, what is the part of the music you will do the concentric of a crunch on - then listed different aspects of music in multi-choice format.

I have no further contribution.

HAHAHA awesome. Can’t wait til I graduate and can sit for my CSCS.

Hey not to bump up a dead thread, but…

I was talking to the trainer-manager at the gym and he mentioned they were looking to add another trainer, and asked if I had any interest/certifications. We talk a lot in between sets and I share what I know (a.k.a. I regurgitate the 4,000 articles and comments I’ve read here, which oddly enough puts me in the 99.9% in the knowledge department at my gym).

Long story short, I’ve been one of the guys that gets the “am I doing this right?” or “hey do you know a good exercise for _____?” questions and I think it’d be nice to get paid for it (part time).

So he said he couldn’t hire me without a certification (club rules, and frankly I’d be worried if he COULD hire me without credentials). He suggested the ACE due to the relative ease/cost.

Who here has the cert? I got my paws on the 3rd edition (they are now on the 4th). What experience have all you had?

(p.s. I know compared to NSCA and others ACE sucks, its “cheap and easy” and is what I need to get my foot in the door, I understand a trainer’s education isn’t static and I will continue to study, I just want to get the ball rolling!)
