A US Named Exercise?

What a perfect example. Take something that has been working perfectly well for centuries, add a needless complication (which gives the illusion of improvement, but is actually a retrograde), slap the name “American” on it and call it good.

I can’t wait to see the “American squat”, the “American deadlift” and the “American press”.

Actually, I’d rather just see more Asian snatch.

I don’t think we have labeled any lifts as “American” because that is the default; all the lifts are American except for the notable exceptions.

`Murica!

What about the Jefferson Deadlift? Named after George Jefferson, an entrepreneur of the 1970’s and early 1980s known for his dry cleaning business.

George was quoted stating the deadlifting technique he used was most efficient for moving equipment in and out of his business. It caught on as a New York Barbell club was adjacent to one of his locations, where a young Sylvester Stallone used to workout while playing the “Italian Stallion” in his early motion pictures. Stallone is thought to have popularized the movement when he trained for his leading roll in Rambo years later.

I came expecting a picture of a fatty eating pizza and it being named American Curls.

Yeah, two problems with the Jefferson deadlift: one, you’re always in danger of crushing your balls with the bar unless, like me, you have long arms, and two, that annoying “Movin’ On Up” song that always starts playing whenever you do them.

Why we live in Asia.

Yep. And the different-but-related California Extension (or California Skullcrusher).

But, really, the most American exercise? The Military Press. Because… 'Murica.[/quote]

I hear Military-Industrial Complexes are great for weight-loss!
