I did a lot more warm up sets today. Since the weather is starting to get cooler, this was a good idea. My technique felt better today than last week, at least it did leading up to my set with 250. My main set w/ 250 completely sucked gonads. After 5 reps I just decided to screw it because my technique just wasn’t there. The main thing I needed to do was really ARCH MY BACK. I made sure to do this during the following sets, and it sure made a difference. For the heck of it, I did one rep with 250 after my crappy set and made sure to arch my back. This rep felt real easy. Made me even more pissed that I didn’t do that in the previous set. Just gotta live and learn.
I’m just pissed that I had such a poor workout. At least I started fixing the problem during the workout and got a decent amount of ab work in. Oh well, on to the deload week and then I’ll do better next time.
Dont sweat it man. This whole damn 5’s week sucked for me. Starting my 3 week on friday with MP. Looking forward to a big PR. Just keep pushing along man, bumps in the road are always gonna occur, just gotta have the strength both mentally and physically to overcome these bumps. Strong(er).

Keep it up dude!
Thanks for the encouragement man! I’m not too worried. I’m pretty happy that I was able to figure out what was limiting me already. Plus I gave it a try during the workout and it sure helped out
I look forward to hopefully seeing a vid of the big PR haha.

Yeah, so am I. Damn new years resolutioners!
You shouldn’t be pissed, 1) you learned how to fix your technique to work for you and 2) we can’t have a stellar workout everytime. That’ll make training way too easy and not as interesting.
Squatting more frequently will definitely help your form. HP Mass has made my squat feel MUCH more comfortable, because I’m squatting at least 3, sometimes 4 or 5 times a week. I would maybe do some light squats to warm up for your deadlift day, and definitely use squats for your neural charge sessions if you’re still doing those. Practice makes perfect
@Nikki: Thanks for the encouragement You’d be happy to hear that I’m not longer pissed, I’m rather anxious to have my next squat workout. So anxious, that I just want to travel about a week into the future so I can squat haha. But your two points are very true and I really do appreciate you bringing them up.
@ashy: Thanks man! Man you’re always making me want to do away with 5/3/1 and start doing HP Mass haha. If anything HP mass is next on my hit list. Squats as a warm up for my DLs sounds like a pretty good idea actually. I’ll definitely give it a try. I’ll also be sure to do me some squats during my next neural charge session, which was supposed to be on Friday but I’ll be out of town helping my sister move in. Oh well, I suppose patience is a virtue haha.
Decided to try using a false grip today. It wasn’t too bad. I don’t love it, but I also don’t hate it. I’ll probably continue to use it to get accustomed to it.
Overall happy with getting 7 reps at 150. I was aiming for 8 and almost got it. There’s always next time. I think I need to work on pushing my head and chest through the imaginary hole to help with my lockout.
Chin ups felt much much easier than before. Maybe the added pull up volume is helping.
Had to cut today’s session short since I’m heading out of town for the weekend.
If my squat and bench still feel terrible after one more cycle of 5/3/1 I may consider switching things up to GVT or HP mass. I’ll have a month or so to decide. I may also consider adding in heavy singles to my current 5/3/1 scheme.

You’ve got a pretty solid MP compared to your bench. I think our bench is pretty similar, but you have me by a little on MP.
Definitely give HP Mass a shot if you’re looking for something new :)
Yeah thats what I was thinking too. I am benching quite a bit more but Aquacruzer is still killing me on the Military press! Don’t even mention the squats and deadlifts lol.
@ashy: I’ve been under the notion that my MP was alright compared to my bench. But then again I wouldn’t know what kind of relation they should have to each other.
At least I’ve got you a little beat on something haha
I’m really considering giving HP Mass a try. It gives me more incentive to get me some Surge :P.
@Getting Closer: Oh I’m sure your MP, squat, and DL will jump up in no time. Just keep on hitting them hard.
HP Mass is the latest program from Christian Thibaudeau and it sure does sound awesome. I probably will give it a try. I’ll either start it in a month or at the latest during summer. Btw thanks again for your advice. It really helped me help my friend

Good stuff going on here bro. I wish I could train at home. :P
Thanks man! Training at home is pretty convenient. One drawback is a lack of heavy DBs. I’m actually considering hitting up a gym every so often just for a change of environment, and to use some DBs.
Man, I was just reminded how much traveling sucks. Even if it’s a 4 hour drive. Lack of food, too much sitting, and missing workouts are no good. I was planning on doing my DL session that I missed saturday today, but I ate something that surprisingly had milk. So I took me some benadryl and am now too drowsy to even attempt my planned neural charge workout. I probably should invest in the non-drowsy kind haha.
Now I’m just that much more anxious to grip and rip me some DLs.
On a positive note, I did get to see a good amount of family and good friends so that sort of made up for the woes of travel.
On another positive note, my Blast Straps have arrived :). Can’t wait to test them out.
My first session on HP Mass was done after getting up at 5:30 to drive 3 hours to Kansas City to see the Chiefs play at Arrowhead. Stood outside and froze for 3-4 hours, and then drove another hour back to Lawrence before going to the gym. Let me tell you, it was a terribly hard session lol
I just ordered blast straps today, weird! I figured I could use them. Also, I made a sled/prowler out of a tire and I’d much rather use those to pull it than the rope I have now. It cuts into my hands lol

Haha. I bet it was an awful session. I feel like a complete woos not even doing a neural charge workout, but I was just helping my brother with a squat session. So at least I did something productive.
Weird indeed. I actually decided to give them a quick try and do some push ups. Man they are quite something. My core was in pain, thanks to my weak core and number of sit ups I did a few days ago. Right now I’m thinking of using them for just push ups and inverted rows, and possibly some ab fall outs.
Good idea using them for a sled. What kind of tire are you using?
