A Strong Squat, Brutal Bench Press, Dauntless Deadlift, and Massive Military press are as easy as 5/3/1

Damn, 315x5 nice! How much do those bands help? Perhaps that’s something I should look into. How have they affected your regular bench press?

Can you put a video up of you doing these to see the setup and how it looks/works?

Thanks in advance!

Haha thanks. They take off about 95 lbs off the chest.

I’m pretty sure they have helped my regular bench pressing. Doing reverse band pressing allows me to get used to holding heavier weight in my hands, which helps psychologically. I find that I have to make sure to stay tight on the descent otherwise it makes pressing the weight up harder. Plus as CT has mentioned in his spills they save your shoulder and really work the pecs and tris. In fact my pecs are sore as hell haha.

Next time I do them I’ll put up a video. As for setting up John Meadows has a pretty good video showing that.

Meh, was planning on doing an extra workout today but was out and about with family from out of town. Despite being up late and being hungry it was awesome hanging out. I’m really glad I decided to do so because I got a chance to talk with my uncles. Very great talk, got to learn a lot about them and their success. Stoked to do some DLing tomorrow.

5/3/1, 5 Week, Day 3
Wednesday 5/18/11

Woke up much later than usual feeling awful, but nothing that lots of food couldn’t fix

Deadlift
somexsomex135
5x215
5x250
7x285 (reset after each rep)

Lower back felt like shit. Next time I’ll try a longer warm up. Frustrated, but I just need to keep on going. Rome wasn’t built in a day. After DLing did a bunch of assorted bodyweight stuff. Meh, I seem to use too much lower back when pulling.

EDIT: set up just didn’t feel right today and that probably played a HUGE role in why today felt like crap. Thankfully I’ve figured out what I was doing wrong. I was lazy and kinda squatted down to reach the bar.

I hate that you can have lots of food to get out of a funk. sigh
One day Nikki.

Nice DLs, resetting after each rep is very gangsta of you :stuck_out_tongue:

Well I think the funk caused from a lack of food. I tend to get in a rather bad mood when hungry.

Thanks, honestly the DLs felt awful, but at least I figured it was a technique thing specifically setting up.

Hopefully resetting after each rep will help my off the floor speed.

Thanks for the video, I’d have to check whether the squat rack pins go so high at my gym…i have a feeling they do not.

If they don’t you could just attach the bands to the top of the rack. That’s actually what I do.

Don’t worry about having a bad deadlift day. We all do from time to time (me more than most due to my back injury). Just gotta keep trucking and beast through the delays.

Thanks man. If anything it’s frustrating at the time, which I’m sure you can relate to. But after the session, I’m focused on pushing through.

Ah good idea! What kind of bands are they?

I use the EliteFTS average bands.

Thanks, ill look into it.

5x120
5x140
7x155

Military press

5x145
5x155
5x145 (last rep or two were grinders)
5x135 (last rep or two were grinders)

Incline press
5x135
5x5x185

BB shrugs
10x135

15x365 (straps)

Good session. Nothing special really.

Pretty decent session man. Bet your traps were nice and toasty after all that shruggin. Incline after push press and MP doesn’t sound fun. My ant. delts don’t like the thought of that. haha.

Well if it were still winter, I’d want to hide away and snuggle in my traps. Inclining after all the OHPing wasn’t too bad. I knew the inclining was going to suffer so didn’t up the weight. But I found it rather enjoyable haha.

Nice looking session. I love sets where you really grind out the last rep or two, just lets me know I’m really tearing into those muscle fibers extra hard

Super LOL dude. Imagining crawling back into some wicked traps to stay warm, like a blanket. LOLosaurus

Hey Aqua just watched the 1x335 squats, looking sharp man - do you think the volume on squat day has helped most in assistance or the intro of front squatting?

I’ve been having a lot of trouble repping out on the last set of squat day with 5/3/1 so I’m curious about your take.

How are DLs coming along in comparison now?

I thought that this was absolutely hilarious lol

So is your trap comment.
I’m so jelly of Bug for having had a class with you <3
