A Real Man

No. Just remembering when I was married and raising my family. Even though my wife is gone and my kids are grown, I still consider myself a family man based on the actions I performed when I had a wife and young family. I still consider myself family oriented. Had the 4 grandkids over for the weekend so there’s still family atmosphere at my house. And I would protect the grands now just like I protected the kids back then.

This is pure genius.

REAL men get in boats and travel to foreign shores to bath in the riches and rape the daughters of lesser men.

What ya’ll folks are describing is ‘modern’ man.

I think I posted this before but it fits in fine right here.

There was a Viking with the name of “Childlover”.

Because, this Viking did everything other Vikings did, like killing, maiming, raping and plundering, BUT he refused to kill children.

THAT made him the emo of the raiding party.

They basically called him a fairy.

That is simply on another level. [/quote]

Damn… that’s what I’m talking about right there!

In all seriousness I think the term ‘real man’ is so subjective and influenced by your personal upbringing (largely with your father) that it’s an almost abstract and pointless thing to compare, but I’ll throw in my two cents anyway.

Some people would say fighters are real men. I wouldn’t say that. Any time I was ever in a fight I would always get upset afterwards. Upset that I had to resort to that kind of confrontation over, usually, bullshit reasons. Even if I won (which happened once or twice) I still felt like I lost. People who do this regularly may be ‘tough guys’, but they aren’t real men in my eyes.

Some would say a real man knows his way around a house. He’s handy with a jigsaw and the plumbing. Give him a budget and some space and a real man can build a house with a presentable patio and remote garage door. Sure, this guy is a ‘handyman’, but a real man? Nah, not to me.

Some would say a real man opens doors for women, treats them with respect and would never cheat or degrade them in anyway. Certainly a ‘gentleman’ would do this, but that doesn’t define a real man to me.

I believe ‘real man’ is defined by how readily a person accepts responsibility for his own actions. A real man is aware of his accountability and acts accordingly. When a real man fucks up he holds his hands up and says “I fucked up, now I’m going to try to make this right.” instead of hiding from responsibility.

By the same token a real man has the courage to proceed despite the consequences. He is loyal to his values, whatever they are, and he has conviction.

But that’s just my take on things as I was taught by my father. Entirely subjective.

Good words Stern! Being torn to pieces and buried alive is something you don’t deserve after all.

Yes, sadly all we have is the pilot

Understands that nothing matters more than his own passions and needs no approval in pursuit…knowing that at any given second all this can be over

All that honor shit is for slaves…live a calm tied down life while your superiors are dripping with sin? Fuck that imma get wet too

not sure if this qualifies for ‘real man’ description, but it is the gateway to adulthood.

I’ve used these words to my kids and family members - this is the defining moment in a boys life, is when he takes responsibility for his actions - it releases him.

Are you really him?

I think the thing that makes a man a “real” man more than anything else is his acceptance of responsibility. This often manifests itself as self-sacrifice and putting the needs/desires of others above your own.

Whether it’s getting up and going to a job you hate for 20 yrs because you have to put food on the table for your family; whether it’s spending the night in the ER with your sick kid even though you have to be up at 5:00am for work; whether it’s putting aside your regular life and picking up a rifle because some asshole decided to attack your country, I would consider all of these actions examples of being a “real” man.

In each case he is simply “shutting up and getting shit done” that needs to get done. There is a guy on my street that in many superficial ways would be considered by many to be manly. He rides a Harley, is about 6’2", drinks beer while bbq’ing in his driveway, constantly working on his car, etc.

However, the fucker can’t hold down a job and support his wife and kids. He’s too busy playing with his toys and his recreational football team. On the other hand, my next-door-neighbour is a skinny little guy who has probably never seen the inside of a gym and who physically is quite effeminate.

However, he works his ass off supporting his family in a job that he has told me he despises and that he drives 1.5 hrs each way to every day, and when he gets home he spends the rest of each night practicing his son’s soccer skills with him and generally just playing around with his kids. I know which one I think is a real man.

a real man is someone who has legs so big he has trouble finding jeans that fit.

There are way too many of these around. I call them cheap imitations. They talk a lot of shit and give the appearance, but as soon as they are challenged in any way they throw tantrums, get all pouty lipped and find ways to bitch out.

I found myself humming inspirational music as I began reading your post, then I outright started to sing, I am now standing, marching in place and saluting the screen as I sing inspirational music inspired by your post.

A real man has jelqued himself a 24 inch monster whang and is not afraid to share the magical secrets of jelqueing with others.

A penis and a circulatory system.

Is it the power in hands? His quest for glory?

Naw, too dumb

Lots of good examples mentioned before here.

I feel more like a man when I do the following:

Providing for my family trough work
Spend time raising my daughter
Spend time with my coming wife
Doesnt spread slander like little bitch at work, rather stand up and stop it. I work with health, which means lots of women, they need to be balanced by men
Train martial arts, and handle some full contact sparring. Also handling psychiatric patients with a bad day.
Control my diet
Lift “heavy”
