A Neurotic Dieter + Doggcrapp Training = The Most Detailed Log on T-Nation Ever

TODAY’S TRAINING

I feel pulled and broken in half this is a learning process for what I can do I suppose.

Otherwise than the fact that I am keeping 3 mini sets indo r feel I’m slacking but the lowered volume is messing with me. I did high volume for so long.

Also although I’ll feel wrecked and dead now, tomorrow I’ll feel hardly anything so my recovery is high even with no carbs.

taking heart rate between sets

My heart rate between sets is between 105-120 Nx my resting heart rate is 65, so I’m there in the intensity…

Woke up today feeling… A little more sore than I thought that I would.
Did not really track calories yesterday, but also was not as interested in eating carbohydrates as I thought I would be.

Dinner was some sweet potato fries, “all natural” (not filled with chemicals and preservatives) chicken fingers made in my air fryer, and some chocolate and ritz crackers.

I thought I was setting up for a huge carb fest where I would be so relieved to eat these things, and that just was NOT the case.

That is weird.

Here are how my calories will play out going forward.

Looks good to me, I’d probably have more protein on Friday/Saturday though (especially Friday, under 100 grams is very little)

I understand the logic of that too, but the point is to keep protein lower those days, and carbs predominant during the carb load.

The reason I started this log here is I assumed there were still people on this board interested in AD, seeing as there was a thread with over 9250 replies back in the day on these forums.

Alas, not the case. I am glad you are here though.

It takes a while for a log to gain popularity, I’ve been logging for several months and I have ~6-10 active readers

I’m always in for a good log

177.4 LBS ON THE LAST DAY OF THE CARB LOAD

First of all, I have to assume with 100% certainty that I am seeing RECOMPOSITION, because I have gone 12 days no carbs, followed by practically not counting but arouind 800-1000g carbs and no net increase in weight at all.

This is very interesting, and I am looking forward to moving forward, as they say.

I will train today, and will put those logs up later on, but suffice it to say, i am interested and motivated in pushing on with a slightly lower calorie count.

@danteism

My gym doesn’t have a machine hack squat. I’ve been doing them from the floor. That’s like a deadlift but the bars behind your legs. You follow?
This would be my first time in DC using this movement.

Is there something more appropriate to use? I hope u can answer soon I’ll he in the gym in around 6 hrs.

I do these from time to time as well

If you can perform them so that they hit your quads and you can keep the form clean even with longer sets you can do them as they are, if not you could try doing them in a smith machine (it’ll probably take a few tries to get the hang of 'em, but it’s a great exercise)

Here is Scott Stevenson demonstrating the exercise

TRAINING FOR 5-21-17

Why fuck are they called sissy hack squats when_I literally laid flat on the floor for five minutes afterwards?_

Here is today’s log.

Got to say, I’m rather amused by this quote (or in simpler terms - I laughed)

Did you do them in the smith machine or with a free weight?

Smith as in the video however the Smith doesn’t go down as low as if I used a barbell, but I could never have gotten the widow maker done via a barbell.

Next time I’ll use a step.

SO THIS CAN’T BE GOOD.

I woke up today and felt fine, however incredibly sore from yesterday.

Yesterday I cut off carbs around noon and the evening was typical keto foods.

TODAY though… All I want to do is sleep

Right this is an uncontrollable urge to do zero physical activity, which I can’t get a reason for.

Here are my ideas as to a possible cause, because I slept quite well last night.

  1. Eating at a calorie restriction of around 500 calories a day and pushing it to extremes all last week on doggcrapp

  2. The carb load sent me back to some horrible insulin based set of mood and energy swings.

And that is about all I can think of.
Let’s try abd apply logic to these.

1 - the idea of pushing too hard.

How can I use this excuse when “science” and the evidence based bros have told me that I will never feel the effects of overtraining.

According to “guru” lyle mcdonald, only professional athletes ever get to any state of real overtraining. At best, amateur athletes get to “over reaching” which takes weeks and weeks to achieve.

Also, what the fuck is my actual TDEE anyhow.

Consider that ate what I thought was a 500 calorie SURPLUS over the course of twelve days and saw weight remain the same.

Nah sorry, I lied. I lost weight according to today…

2 - insulin is the boogeyman man.

This is bullshit that a full retarded keto person who is brainwashed would put forward.

I ate carbs for 36 hours. That’s it. So this isn’t the case.

Either way I wonder if I need to change the diet to with with the training.

I’m looking towards a more carb backloading approach with quality carbs on training days after workouts.

I wish people WERE A READING THIS as I need some experience with heavy training and playing with diet.

@danteism what say you bro?

This is crazy.
I am going to continue on the training, but will need to switch to carbs on training days.
Today I am doing whatever i want to eat day. Maybe i overestimated my TDEE and was undereating that entire time?

Dunno.

Been following along and thought I might share my personal take on keto/sadistic training, lol.

  1. Keto left me depleted severely in my recovery when training more than 4 days per week (MWFS)
  2. I have eaten 500 plus carbs per day for six weeks consistently and lost bf% on 2 separate occasions.

I’m NOT an expert, but if I work hard AND smart in the gym, 4000 calories is an accurate TDEE for me on training days. Based on your log, I’ll venture most of your food is pretty much fuel for your workout and recovery. A hardgainers surplus may seem ridiculous but if everything you eat is healthy and you are pushing this hard, it may be necessary to see the scale stop going south and find maintenance. After 6 weeks of Keto, I always reintroduce carbs at 500 kcal per week until I gain weight then make 250 kcal deductions until I hit maintenance. Now all of this was 6 years ago and I’m nowhere near where I need to be now. Just wanted you to know others were indeed following along and willing to share my experience. Best of luck, keep pushing forward brother.

Sometimes I have experienced kind of similar effect on the day after a refeed, especially if the refeed was a longer one, so it probably has to do with that

I’m assuming you won’t be refeeding anymore then?

If that’s the case, it’s possible that your problem just solved itself

Cool and thanks for the input.
What are your stats (bodyweight, height?) so I can have an idea, as well what do you do for a living?

And again its awesome to see someone else watching and willing to give some opinion and feedback.

The last time I did any prolonged keto was seven years ago. Then I was working a desk job vs the om my feet all day job now.

My current job pays very well but is also 100% commission vs last time keto which was salaried.

Perhaps this is what’s the biggest factor and I think yes, upping protein and eating to find maintenance is a great idea now.

Okay, sounds like it isnt unexpected[quote=“danteism, post:77, topic:229534”]

No, I will just eat bigger all around for a little bit, as was suggested up there by @bctx1981 and find maintenance. I will keep my carbs over 100g daily because that just seems to make sense for now.

MAY 23, 2017

My last workout, my legs were in a different place. Much higher stress than I have ever experienced in a workout, and then afterwards there were no carbs.

Last night I broke down and forced myself to feed. I have little appetite, I am afraid.

So whatever I did, I could have started what is known as a herxheimer type reaction.

It happens when someones body releases toxins from fat cells or other places (most common in the gut and reactions to probiotics) and when these hit the bloodstream you feel like hell.

literally, today feels like I have the flu. My entire body is sore like a flu, but far far worst in my legs.

I will play today’s training by ear.
